Martin saw Uncharted 4 – “Never seen anything like it. Almost scary real, photo realistic.”

Making a fan film about Uncharted can get you places. It can even get you a tour of the Naughty Dog studio and an exclusive first look at Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. This is exactly what Martin Sofiedal just did and he’s pretty impressed at what he saw.

ND always impresses me! Good job guys :)

vishmarx3872d ago (Edited 3872d ago )

my left eye will explode when i see uc4 reveal , would have gone with both but im saving one for SSM's new game reveal

bouzebbal3872d ago (Edited 3872d ago )

what worries me about this game is that everything that gets released after will look ugly!!! :D

Gazondaily3872d ago

Haha. Bits of me will explode too. This will smash our expectations. I cant wait to play this.

Look, this will be a great game, but dont expect too much visually, everyone who is not a fanboy knows that all of the new consoles are real powerhouses. I dont know why these companies all try this, instead of marketing it, because of the great game, that it is...

andibandit3871d ago (Edited 3871d ago )

Who the hell is Martin?, anyway he must be some big Über honcho since im suppose him by just his first name???

"An fan of the Uncharted series saw....." would have been more appropriate.

Chrischi19883871d ago

Sorry, I meant arent real powerhouses. But looking at my disagrees, it really seems like people think that these consoles can match a PC in visuals. I mean, you have to compare it to a high end rig, because the guy says, he has NEVER SEEN anything like this before, meaning, no game dev ever made it this real... and somehow I dont believe it. I mean, it can look stunning, for a console game. It can look superb, for 1080p, but to act like there has never been anything like it before, even though you can play games in 4K on PC, on a super high end rig of course, but who cares, if you have never seen something like this, it also means, not on PC and only fanboys can truly believe that.

Look, I am not trying to hate on the game, it will most likely be a super hit, superb gameplay, much fun, very good visuals and all, but not like the guy the article talks about, said it.

Cuzzo633871d ago (Edited 3871d ago )

@Christina or whatever it is, who said anything about the pc. Unborn children know the pc has better visuals. But I thought this was talking about Uncharted 4... A console game... WTF and how many people has a super high end rig dummy. Can you please go back to playing your wonderful pc while we enjoy our wonderful consoles

nveenio3871d ago

Uncharted games have always pushed the rest of the industry forward. So I'm super excited to see ND raise the bar again.

maddskull3871d ago

@chrischi1988 games graphics aren't about the resolution you can play them on its about the optimizing that the dev did a game that is in 1080 p may be better than a game that is 4k graphics wise because the developer of the 1080p game worked hard on the game while the other dev just did a game and put it in 4k

MysticStrummer3871d ago

@Chris - You wasted your two bubbles with PC master race talk in a console article. Take a moment and think about that.

OT - ND has a proven track record of making fun and visually pleasing games. Can't wait to see more on UC4!

mikeslemonade3871d ago (Edited 3871d ago )

Haha what the "master of none" doesn't understand is.. 4K of pacman is just mean it's a ultra clear version of pacman.

Uncharted 4 will surpass anything on PC because it's highly optimized just for the PS4. Meaning the developer can focus entirely on all the strengths of the PS4 instead of developing it for any other platform. It may not be 120fps or 4k but movies can still look stunning on 720p too with textures, physics, lighting, particles, etc.

redwin3871d ago

This looks more realistic than a movie. This is getting ridiculous, I love it. I can see ND being used for the next avata movie. Maybe this time they'll have good CGI

starchild3871d ago

@abzdiine

That didn't happen with the Uncharted games, so I don't see why you assume it will happen with Uncharted 4.

It's going to look amazing, no doubt about it, but that doesn't mean there aren't going to be other amazing looking games. The Uncharted games last generation looked great and were among the best looking console games, but they weren't the best looking games I played last generation.

alwayzbusi13871d ago (Edited 3871d ago )

@chrischi1988

While PCs can be much more powerful than consoles, PC devs don't have the luxury of developing directly for a specific piece of hardware. The games they develop must run on the median PC rig in the wild. The PS4 is more powerful than that median system. (If you don't believe me, pick a PC game and check your minimum system requirements.) This results in PS4 devs being able to produce things never seen before. Because no one has been able to code specifically for hardware this powerful until now. And before the PC elite crowd comes in and say 120 fps this and 4k that, high res and fps are just indicators of how much power is being left on the table. 120 fps Pacman is still just Pacman. Now imagine if PC devs could harness all that power by developing for it from the ground up.

AndrewLB3871d ago

"He further explains that the scene he saw was in a cave where the "lights and shadows were completely raw" and choose to compare the jump from the previous generation leap from PlayStation 2 graphics to a Pixar movie."

Riiiight. And all being fully rendered in real time on a GPU about as powerful as an HD7850.

Since it seems this guy Martin Sofiedal is a film director of sorts who is working on a live-action film based on Uncharted, that could explain why he was invited to Naughty Dog to check out their cut-scene creation project. Nowhere does the author mention that he witnessed actual gameplay, but by the sound of thing this was all about the cut-scenes since this is the kind of stuff he's working on.

Here is a portion of the guys short film: http://youtu.be/bKrdjJ4VFIk

My question is... What's up with Naughty Dog not showing ANY actual gameplay? It's just bizarre.

bouzebbal3871d ago

@starchild:
have you ever heard of second degree humor?
damn is this really a videogame and entertainment forum?

bouzebbal3871d ago

@christian or christina or whatever:

" I mean, you have to compare it to a high end rig, because the guy says, he has NEVER SEEN anything like this before, meaning, no game dev ever made it this real... "

your conclusion is ridiculous. not because he never seen it that it doesnt exist, but at the same time he has never seen it even if it exists. got it?
and between us, please show me one PC game where a character is more detailed than Drake in U4 or just on par. come on!

Next gen started with Shadow of Mordor to be honest.

Only game so far to look next gen and actually utilize things like the controller speakers properly.

pody3871d ago (Edited 3871d ago )

For me it started with Infamous: Second Son

I'm still amazed by that game.

Best developer in the world in my opinion. Every game they release seems to push the bar higher than the last in some way or another, and ends up setting the benchmark for the genre.

jrshankill3871d ago (Edited 3871d ago )

Guy "Martin" makes uncharted fan film

naughty dog invite "Martin" to see Uncharted 4 (before press, for some odd reason)

"Martin" has never seen anything like it.

Naturally, everyone believes "Martin".

Kingthrash3603871d ago (Edited 3871d ago )

"Jrshankill" gets salty

Forgets that nd does this consistently.

Forgets they are the devs on top of the game and needs no stunt to hype their games.

Forgets that if they wanted hype they'd just release the trailer online and eat popcorn.

Ace_Pheonix3871d ago

The reasons you show anything to the press is to get stories out about what you're showing. His visit was likely to show gratitude to such a great and talented fan, and came along with a non-disclosure document he had to sign. I don't see what's so unbelievable about it. It's actually really plausible.

slasaru013871d ago

I suppose, Martin was also scared when he saw Uncharted on PS Vita.

lipton1013871d ago

Uncharted/ND once again setting an enormous bar for its peers. Well played gentlemen, I can't wait to reap the benefits of your work

hiredhelp3871d ago (Edited 3871d ago )

NOOOOO "One last time" "A thiefs End" i really hope this not the end on unharted series.

potedude3871d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the end of the series. Unless they decide to do a prequel.

XanderZane3871d ago

Can't wait to see the game in action. Uncharted 4, No Man's Sky and Bloodborne are really the only games I'm hyped for in 2015. Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin would be proud, I'm sure.

christian hour3871d ago (Edited 3871d ago )

OffTopic but in response to your last sentence.

Andy Gavin followed me on twitter a few months back. And I don't even use twitter all that much except to follow Graham Linehan, I've never geeked out over something like that before but I've been a fan since the first CB game so I started to hyperventilate like a girl in the height of beatlemania. (Thats hyperbolic hyperventilation btw)

XanderZane3871d ago

I interviewed both Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin when they were making "Way of the Warrior" for the 3DO. Andy, I believe was getting his Masters at M.I.T. at the time and I lived in Cambridge, MA. My cousin and I were starting our gaming mag back then, so we were able to get an interview with them. Great guys and we always got to speak with them at the E3's. They left Naughty Dog after Sony acquired them.

starchild3871d ago

I simply can't wait to see more of Uncharted 4. I know that it's going to be a visual marvel and an amazing experience all around.

bennissimo3871d ago

I just wish that the gameplay was deep enough to warrant replays of ND games. One n done, unfortunately. I'll rent it, though.

Can't wait to see more on this game.

Neixus3872d ago

Me neither, hopefully some gameplay and/or trailer at the upcoming Playstation Experience! =D

TheStrokes3872d ago

I think this is exactly what will happen...isn't it also ND's anniversary this year too?

badz1493871d ago

@TheStrokes

You do know the meaning of the word "anniversary", right? It happens every year, not just some years in particular.

KwietStorm_BLM3871d ago

@badz149

Cmon man you know he was referring to their 30th anniversary, which was a big thing for them a few months ago.

BiggerBoss3871d ago (Edited 3871d ago )

@badz hes referring to ND's 30 year anniversary, so no it doesnt happen every year:p

Exactly. This is the game I am singly most excited, and I'm excited for quite a lot lol.

Dabigsiebowski3872d ago

I feel like this will be the first game to truly max out the ps4 and see what it's really capable of. Thank goodness for exclusives that allow you to do that, Very confident in Naughty Dog!

shodai3871d ago

All games for now are using 5gb of ram GDDR5. Im betting that Naughty dogs are using 6.5 gb. They have the ICE team that probably told them that the UI will be optimised to use 1.5gb instead of 3 gb. I think thats how they are going to pull this off. They are just going to increase the power of the PS4.

If you think about it the UI is not optimised at all, and when Mark Cerny announced that the UI would use 3gb, he said it will change in the future. The UI was not in final form optimised when it launched, and its still not optimised. Games onward from that point will all be using that new power.
