EA Access – EA’s Latest Attempt to Change the Industry for the Worse

EA Access is nothing but another thinly veiled attempt for EA to remove consumer rights and irreparably damage the industry. The problem? People are eating it up.

So it's a problem that I spend my money the way I want to?

LAWSON723544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

Absolutely. Communism FTW, lol

If it leaves people happy I see no reason to whine about it

denawayne3544d ago

Actually, it's the money your mom paid me

psuedo3544d ago

Where's the downvote bubble for sheeple/stupid?

Iamnemesis48803544d ago

No one can tell you what to spend you own money your case your choice simple.

mananimal3544d ago

@denawayne #1

You said: So its a problem I spend my $$$ the way I want to?

Answer: The problem.is how your choices affect the larger demographic as a whole, simple.

Your choice to to.support this DRM by 1 of.the most.hated for good reason, vilified, greedy, EVIL Publishers in the world, and others like you, only emboldens more publishers to copy and paste EA'S anti consumer practices.

You can play stupid, but your just probably an arrogant prick who only thinks of the here and now, and not long term repercussions...typical.

@ LAWSON

Communism is exactly what EA Practices...but you didn't notice right?...your IQ is?......nevermind.

donthate3544d ago

Actually the flood gate for this was opened with PS+ and nobody complained then, because Sony is somehow the "savior" of the industry?

Let's face it, we are past subscription and service is bad for gaming and onto hoping for as much competition as possible to keep *ALL* companies in line.

If there is a choice, you can choose to affect the larger demographics.

As it stands, PS+, GwG and EAA are all good value and I will support them all. If Ubisoft or Activision wants to offer this, I am all for it.

This is half the cost of a new game, for access to multiple games that I would have bought for $20-30 each anyhow.

That is my vote, and Xbox One, I have a choice!

ThanatosDMC3544d ago

^Actually blame MS for starting this BS by putting multiplayer behind a pay wall.

ramiuk13544d ago

thats why its on xbone,because they know that audience will buy into anything no matter how stupid it is

CaptainObvious8783544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

You have every right to spend your money on whatever legal goods or services you wish.

But I have a right to an opinion on your behavior and I say your simple minded spending habits, your complete disregard for how your actions will affect the gaming industry is selfish and arrogant. You don't have the intellect or maturity to look just a little ways into the future and contemplate how this could negatively affect gaming and you don't care.

This article is garbage click bait and I refused to give them a bit. I have EA Access and it is utterly amazing. I just paid thirty bucks for four games and huge discounts for all others including those games. Oh and they aren't going away. I can play them as long as Access is around. I'm sorry I didn't know that four recently released games for only thirty bucks a year and huge discounts of money was the way to ruin anything. Click bait bullshit written by a truly ignorant gamer and a but hurt Sony fan. Good day.

Gozer3544d ago

Yeah, between EA Access, and Tomb Raider being an XB1 exclusive, the sony camp is in an uproar. lol just look at the hate they are spewing all over N4G. Its got to be sony fanboys, because its obviously not xbox fanboys crying about it.

MSBAUSTX3544d ago

It is funny because, generally, we don't cry about much anyway. It is the Sony fanboys that always want it their way that cry. We just play games. LOL

user95589033544d ago

You guys are gonna lose so many bubbles when the mods see this..

Wizard_King3544d ago

Delusion wankers.

EA access is rubbish and only kids and the mental inculpable can't see this as for Tomb Raider being worth tears... Please...

badz1493544d ago

yeah, blame Sony fanboys! that's the solution for everything!

the only good thing that could come out from EA Access is their upcoming games selling less and less on Xbone because they will be put in the vault soon!

c'mon Xboners, don't buy upcoming FIFA, Madden, NFS, BF or any other EA games! let's see how much they love you guys when all of you just wait for the games to appear in the vault a few months later and in the case of BF, fixed, unbroken and playable! let us see if they are happy their game sales tank because people are waiting for them to appear in the vault or will they stop putting their huge sellers and start putting in poor selling old games to sell big.

this will be interesting! :-D

Starks3544d ago

Paying 30 bucks for 2 sports games that are soon to be outdated, and a BF game that they didn't bother to fix for a while seems like it's a definite deal. Also, that 10% discount is certainly huge savings /s.

Seems like someone did not actually read the article before calling it clickbait.

MSBAUSTX3544d ago

The two agrees for me and two disagrees for you should tell you something. Plus BF is fixed now and we got Peggie 2 which is fun and haven't played the two sports games yet and their replacements are not out yet so yes. It is a good deal.

Starks3544d ago

Agrees/disagrees does not matter for me, since it's only an opinionated stance. And no BF isn't fixed, especially when a recent glitch happened when you can mix classes.

Gozer3544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

@Starks
No one is paying $30 for 2 sports games, people are paying $30($2.50 a month) for a 1 year sub that will encompass several games, early access for new EA titles, and 10% off EA games & dlc. I spent $30, and instantly got $80 worth of games, including any EA games that I don't own that get added to the Vault in the next year. If you cant see the value in that, then you would be better served to not hate on it, because it makes you look foolish. So you see why people who have EA Access think the authors of these articles hating EA Access look like butthurt fools.

Ive read all the doom, and gloom nonsense about how EA Access is going to lead to the apocalypse of the gaming industry, and its all fear mongering BS. Do you know what EA Access is? Its a way for EA to take the money that used game dealers make on their games, and have the money theirselves, nothing more. Are they not deserving of the money made on the games they created? That is what EA Access is, its not ushering in subscription services for all games. That's complete BS. You want to know why? First, a sub service offering new titles would be so expensive no one would subscribe to it. Second, paying $65 for a new game is a more profitable business choice than any sub service with a price acceptable enough for people to subscribe to could ever be.

I would jump for joy if Ubisoft, and Activision created a service with the same features, and discounts as EA Access.

Starks3544d ago

@Gozer

Other games were not announced yet for the Vault, so until then, people are paying 30 bucks for 3 not good games.

Also, you're right. I don't see the value in locking demos behind EA Access to try for free, as well as old sports games and an unfixed shooter. Besides, I'm sure you can find a better deal for the newest games by buying the physical versions. Not only that, but digital games stays inflated after some time, so if Ubisoft and Activision has their own methods, who is to say they will hinder gamers by putting usual content behind their subscriptions?

The point is, they can do whatever they wish, and that demo debacle is just the start, and that is what everyone does not want from these subscription based models.

souldestroyer143544d ago

@starks
These games are great but it I guess that's a matter of opinion. And it's not a demo you get early access to, its the full game. Your game file transfers over as well.

marlinfan103544d ago

@starks

apparently you don't care for the games on there, but others do. if you don't like it, great, move on already. why comment on something you don't care for?

and its only one demo so far, which is obviously there to entice people into subscribing. fifa 15 codes were just handed out 2 days ago and doesn't start until the 21st, yet people outside of ea access still got codes. surely if every demo was gonna be behind the subscription they'd stick fifa there since its their biggest sports game.

bleedsoe9mm3544d ago

personally i got 4 games that i didn't own , thats 7.50 per game for the next year , and thats cheaper than renting 4 games for 7 days on ps now , EA will add at least a few more games over the next year dropping the rental even further , add in the 10% discount and early access and the value is even better , now if EA doesn't add enough to the vault on a yearly basis i won't re-subscribe .

Wizard_King3544d ago

@ Gozer.

You spent 30 bucks and got 0 value. You own nothing and loose everything. Stupid sheep.

Gimmie a BAAAAAHHHHHHHH!

Starks3544d ago

@souldestroyer14

I was talking about the Madden NFL 15 demo that you can only get by being a subscriber to EA Access.

@marlinfan10

How on earth can you entice people into EA Access by making a demo... a demo of all things, that you get for free, to be only available by buying a subscription? I'm sorry but that is absolutely absurd and is by no means a benefit for us consumers. And yes, I don't typically care about the games they offer, but what I do care for is how this will affect gaming in the coming years. Soon we might have paywalls upon paywalls of many companies with a subscription service. It's more of a concern about their changes they might do more than anything, and the demo controversy seems like the start of it.

As for the Fifa 15 demo, I doubt that will be free for a second time, but it's not near the release date of it yet, so we'll see.

@bleedsoe9mm

If you found value in that service, more power to you. I'd rather get the physical copies, as well as save a bit more than just 10%.

marlinfan103544d ago

"i doubt that will be free for a second time"

lol you're just hoping they do this stuff so you have a reason to complain. notice how they're giving out the nhl demo world wide on aug 26th? it sure doesn't seem like every demos gonna be behind the subsciption

Volkama3544d ago

@WizardKing he doesn't lose the time he spent enjoying those games, which is the essence of the hobby.

marlinfan103543d ago

@wizard

Id rather pay $30 for a year and play the 4 games as much as I want vs paying $100+ for the 4 games and get to own them permanently. Plus you get whatever new games are added, early access and 10% off other games. If you dont like it so be it but its hard to take you seriously when you say theres no value in it.

badz1493544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

click bait? seriously, think about it!

they started with some games and you guys are already celebrating. forgetting the fact that their demos for new games are now behind a paywall! I guess you xbox guys really love paying for something that should have been free in the 1st place, ha? like how you need to have XBLG to use FB, Twitter, Netflix etc. and now you guys are happy demos are put behind paywall too? talk about being a sheep!

it's bad enough that xbox gamers already are paying for XBLG to play online (PS gamers too with PS+) but now the best way for us to try a game for free to judge before buying is taken away from us but a certain camp is happy because they choose to bow and pay! demos are supposed to be a way publishers market their upcoming games and they spend money for the bandwidth but that's a necessity for marketing and gamers have benefited from this FREE service! now, you have to pay to try their games and it's BS! if this program is a success, expect others to follow suit and say goodbye to free demos!

they started with demos and it won't be long before they start throwing ads in your face! just wait for it!

mhunterjr3544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

Did you forget that most companies have stopped doing demos altogether? Is EA to blame for that as well? Where is your Infamous:SS demo? your watch dogs demo? Your Forza 5 demo? Your GTA 5 demo? Isnt the Killzone demo behind a paywall (ps+ only)? Won't the DriveClub demo be the same way?have any big next gen games had demos? Hell, the MGS:PP demo was $30!!!

Demos were SUPPOSED to be away to market and promote games, but as pretty much every publisher learned last gen, that they don't do much to benefit reception of the games. In many cases, demos have hurt sales. With the advent of video streaming services, publishers have found more cost effective ways to market their titles... You'll see more live streams, public betas, and viDocs, and virtually no demos... It just is what it is.

Though conspiracy theorists won't admit it, the free demo was on its death bed LONG BEFORE EA Access came along. EA is simply joining the club. Point the blame elsewhere.

marlinfan103543d ago

@bads

Thats funny youd say all demos are behind a paywall. Idk if youve noticed, eas announced 3 demos in the past week and only ones been behind the subsciption. Like Hunter said, enjoy your free demos for kz, dc, gta, forza, etc. Oh wait...

ovnipc3544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

I got ea access and its great. I trade in bf4 and fifa to game stop and got 62 and paid off diablo 3and some more of destiny. Ea access its great the Xbox one its awesome. The only ones crying and complaining are ps fan boys. The best of all its that if the ea access would be on ps4 it would be the best idea ever, ms never can do nothing right, but Sony never does nothing wrong. Stupid.

"attempt for EA to remove consumer rights and irreparably damage the industry"

I disagree with this article. I simply don't understand how EA Access is attempting to remove consumer rights.

gamerfan09093544d ago

Since the beginning of EA announcing this there's been a witch hunt trying to destroy this service. Problem is that there's no catch or chink in it's armor. There's a clear agenda that certain people have against the service.

Reddzfoxx3544d ago

The agenda is anti-EA, anti-xbox,anti-ms...
They shouldn't be mad at anyone but Sony for trying to monopolize their own ps plus service and taking away choices before the gamers even get a chance to weight in.

Sony showing their true colors and unveiling the true power of their console. It has transformed into the paystation.

CaptainObvious8783544d ago

Right now there aren't any gamers being violated, but just give it time.

Volkama3544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

Some people cling tightly to the idea of cuddling and selling discs. EA Access (and playstation plus etc) take that right away. It is nonsense, because you can still go out and buy the disc if you want so no rights have been taken away.

They are however giving consumers the option to waive those rights in favour of a better value deal. Apparently that upsets some people.

I'm all for it, and hope other publishers start offering their own packages ASAP (Ubisoft are perfectly positioned to do so right now imo).

468893373544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

I love how the majority of criticism for EA Access comes from pure speculation as to how they MIGHT mess it up. It's like no one can accept the fact that EA actually made a halfway decent business decision so they need to come up with baseless conspiracy theories for nonexistent policies.

But these same people defend Playstation Now's ridiculous pricing model by saying they MIGHT lower the prices. Hell, if Sony implemented the exact same subscription model for their first party exclusives, they'd recieve nothing but praise.

I swear,this community is so hypocritical at times. We should be judging these services based on what they are currently offering for their prices. Instead people are focusing on the company involved, and what they MIGHT do.

gamerfan09093544d ago

Dude these guys are die hard fans of a piece of plastic. They'll justify any thing Sony does and completely shit on any single thing Microsoft, EA, Ubi, Nintendo, and Activision does. It's not even a surprise anymore. You just got to learn to accept that fact. Not only is it a fact that EA Access is just a plain better service than PS Now. It's significantly cheaper. If people want to argue that fact, then let them argue with air.

Kingoftherodeo3544d ago

so this person is telling what is and isn't good value lets see. i already had bf4,fifa and madden discs so why would i pay 30 bucks for this. well i paid my 30 bucks, took my games to gamestop got me 75 bucks out of it. put it all towards destiny and renew membership card. so my 30 dollars investment turned into a 45 dollar profit, peggle2 and now i don't need to change discs when i wanna play any of those games. simply tell xbox to launch game and I'm there. so now anything else that ea adds to access is nothing but a plus for me

mhunterjr3544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

I did the same thing, except i didn't go to Gamestop, I sold mine directly. not only does ea access save me money, but I got it for free and profited because the vault games still resell for $30 or more .
