DYNABOT: The Robo Marble is About to Change the Endless Runner Genre

"I’m kind of surprised that Sega hasn’t made a decent Sonic game in the endless runner genre. Wait, no I’m not. Sega has seemed incapable of capturing the particular magic that made the original games work, and now, it may be too late. That’s because I just watched the trailer for DYNABOT: The Robo Marble, and I think Sonic would face some heavy competition in the genre even if Sega could put together a decent game now.

Now, I typically do not care about endless runners one bit. Not. One. Bit. Still, I decided to give Dynabot‘s trailer a look, and I’m pretty happy I did. The game looks really solid, taking a lot of the ideas I liked in the Sonic the Hedgehog series and applying them to the endless runner genre. The platforming looks good, and the neat loop-the-loops, upside down tracks, and enemies all give it a bit more variety than I’m used to seeing from the genre..."

"Sega has seemed incapable of capturing the particular magic that made the original games work"

except they did and it was called Sonic Lost World...
the reason why people hate it is because the audience for Sonic games these days comes from the 3D sonic games excepting to have another runner game with next to no challenge or actual learning curve needed for anything.

the original Sonic games had a degree of challenge
whereas you learned the levels you became gradually better with the game leading up to blasting through the entire game without too much trouble.

some elements of that are clearly present in Lost World
you'll gradually get better with controlling Sonic's
3D flimsy ass movements and you'll eventually gain the speed
with it.

but since it's an Wii U exclusive nobody in the entire universe will probably ever get a chance to play it.
and as such the horrible modern Sonic's spawned furry audience will keep the game from ever gaining any form of popularity because it wasn't a game they wanted.

too bad because Sega really tried on it
and i'm not saying it's a perfect game
but it's far better than 3D sonic games have ever been
especially if you're a fan of the old games like me.
