NVIDIA Geforce GTX 280 and GTX 260 Specs Revealed

"The GTX 280 enables all features of the D10U processor; the GTX 260 version will consist of a significantly cut-down version of the same GPU. The D10U-30 will enable all 240 unified stream processors designed into the processor. NVIDIA documentation claims these second-generation unified shaders perform 50 percent better than the shaders found on the D9 cards released earlier this year.

The main difference between the two new GeForce GTX variants revolves around the number of shaders and memory bus width. Most importantly, NVIDIA disables 48 stream processors on the GTX 260. GTX 280 ships with a 512-bit memory bus capable of supporting 1GB GDDR3 memory; the GTX 260 alternative has a 448-bit bus with support for 896MB..."

If that's true, that's practically double the amount of stream processors on the current king, 9800 series. Which only have 128 stream processors.... Can I get a boo-ya!?

And Nvidia not using DDR5 yet is a good choice I think. It's still a relatively new technology. And it's not really needed quite yet. The main focus is on the graphics chips performance. And Nvidia has really made an uber card this time around. Over 1 Billion transistors... hell yeah. Ain't that a record in GPU technology? Breaking the 1 Billion barrier...

I'm sure a DDR5 version will come out later anyways. Can't wait to see Ati and Nvidia's new cards come out in June and see how they perform.

Holy crap, 240 stream processors, thats insane.
I dont think there is any game out or in the works that could make that thing flinch.

My 8800 GTS handles crysis fairly decently, it has 96.

boo-ya ...

Yep Nvidia is unstoppable. They are not giving ATI any chance

No I think Nvidia is being a bit conservative about RAM and DX10 not DX10.1 and in this respect ATI are way ahead, but ATI shaders are not as good as the ones from Nvidia. The problem is no one will need this power cuz' most of the games just get ported from X360 which is like a low core clock X1900.

Lol your TOTALLY wrong..

Yeah some of the games that don't do so well just get ported. But most of the time games are not a port.

They get the developers to raise detail settings, more complex game engine functions and higher resolution textures.

What you think EVERY game comes out on the Xbox360 first? Hell no, many games come out on the PC first or at the same time. And it's not a port when it comes out along side.

There will always be a need for a better graphics card.
