Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze review: losing a-peel | ShackNews

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is a mostly well-designed and often gorgeous platformer, with an unfortunate bout of second-finisher syndrome. While it is undoubtedly better in most respects than Donkey Kong Country Returns, that game spent its goodwill as a nostalgic throwback. Tropical Freeze is left suffering many of the same weaknesses, but without the sheen of a comeback story to set it apart.

Why cause he didn't like it? Reviews are nothing more than an opinion by the reviewer nothing more, I suppose you like every get good or bad or maybe because he hated it because is Nintendo? Get a grip man and become open to subjectivity!

BullyMangler3735d ago

i just read the review, and thats exactly what ths review is, an opinion. This review has no valid points to make what he says facts.
Rather he complains that the game was too challenging for him making him feel frustrated.

The fact is, those who feel frustrated are actually very delicate individuals < fact .

So the problem is the reviewer, not so much the game that he gave a 6 outta 10.

Reviewer exposed.

This is the problem with the big Nintendo games, if someone states their honest opinion they get blasted for it. I feel like this is why the majority of reviews are always so high, not because they deserve it because journalists fear the backlash. Look at Gamespots Skyward Sword 7.5 review, people rallied together to get the guy fired because of it, I mean come on.

Don't take this comment directed at Tropical Freeze, I can't comment I haven't played it but theres been the odd title here and there I've played from Nintendo which wasn't as good as people made out to be yet they've scored massively. Not saying they were bad, they were good...just not THAT good if you know what I mean.

As long as a review makes sense and states why he gave it that score then fair enough....unlike that awful Polygon one of the Last of Us, the whole thing just didn't make sense and he contradicted himself on a lot of stuff.

"This is the problem with the big Nintendo games, if someone states their honest opinion they get blasted for it."

Were you on the site when Tom McShea posted his review of The Last of Us with that scary 8.0/10 score? That was where the "get the guy fired" comments reached an all-time high, not Skyward Sword (a game many long-time Zelda fans aren't too big on).

The point is that this isn't limited to Nintendo; this is a problem with ANY game that has an absurd amount of hype, especially a game like this or The Last of Us that is/was being bathed in positive reception from many other websites.

Stop trying to pin this on Nintendo fans like they're the problem; this is a widespread issue that's affecting everyone, regardless of whatever console faction you or anyone else "sides with."

@foxtrot

Quit embarrassing yourself. Every fanboy does this.

Its sad to see that despite the glowing reviews for this game, only the negatives only get the attention. (Of coures, that didn't stop me from commenting, lol)

-Foxtrot3735d ago

@PostMesmeric

Oh please the Tom McShea score for TLOU was nothing compared to the Polygon, 7.5 score. I don't think people made a big deal over that as they did with Polygon.

Hell Tom is who people wanted fired with the Zelda 7.5 score. Literally wanted the guy fired, it was a war zone on the internet because of that and because of the game was such a step back for the franchise, something he even stated himself he was right....he just said something other people couldn't do because it was Nintendo/Zelda. People wanted him fired more for that then the Last of Us. The only time I saw people raging over TLOU score was with Polygon and after that awful review from them that guy should of been fired.

I think it's very easy to get blasted more with Nintendo games then Microsoft or Sony games. Most people after a certain time shrug it off but Nintendo die hard fans with low scored games go off the rails.

I never said once that it was JUST Nintendo's problem but people like you would end up saying like that, putting words in my mouth so you have something else to counter.

Reviews shouldn't be an opinion, something to be read by someone who doesn't know much about the game. They should be an informative article stating the Pros and the Cons of a game, which would mean a basic understanding of art design, level design, and being able to put aside personal feelings.

This idea that a game review is an opinion is ridiculous, this is why gaming news is a borderline joke now a days because it's always about how many clicks one can get by hating, trolling, taking a fraction of an interview and blowing it out of proportion instead of being an informative and UNBIASED place to learn about games so someone can form their own opinion on a game.

This review has no facts, valid points, or examples of how it was a mediocre game. It's completely uninformative.

SpiralTear3735d ago

@-Foxtrot

I'd buy your response more if you actually made an effort to note the other instances where public opinion was so ferocious over a review score, ones that weren't reserved for a Nintendo franchise and were blatantly worse. And I'm speaking exclusively about Gamespot: the fact is that people were sending death threats to Tom McShea over the review of The Last of Us. Trust me; I was an avid Gamespot user when that happened, so I was exposed to that fallout constantly.

The Last of Us was a debacle on Gamespot's part, and users on the site are still bitter about that, but I have a big issue with this statement of yours right here, man:

"he just said something other people couldn't do because it was Nintendo/Zelda."

Maybe the people who "couldn't do it" actually played Skyward Sword and actually liked the game. A fantastic and out-of-this-world explanation, but it's plausible. What is wrong with having the majority opinion be positive for once? When did that become so terrible to see?

And this has nothing to do with reviewers not having the inner strength to state a completely honest opinion; that's total garbage. Nintendo might be an easy target for those kinds of obnoxious opinions, but they sure as hell aren't the only one.

Oh, EXCELLENT pun. You sir are the next Stephen Pastis.

thezeldadoth3735d ago

most of the negative reviews are because "its too harrrdd" they lost a couple times and now punish the game with a meaningless low review. same thing happened with the last one and even demon's souls at first before people began to appreciate it.

Deadpoolio3735d ago (Edited 3735d ago )

It does when you belong to the cult of Nintendo....If a game gets a meh or a bad review the people who weren't going to rush out to get a Wii U for the game still might not rush out to not get a Wii U...Rather than admit that reviews are just opinions and one person just didn't like it, they are that pathetic they need to turn it around into their BS derp derp dez are just haters, or they wuz paid byez Micro$oft and $ony

SpiralTear3735d ago

Because Nintendo fans are the only ones who speak irrationally when a game they like doesn't get the highest accolade...

Quite fooling yourself, man. The other fanboys are just as bad, if not worse than what's going on with Tropical Freeze right now.

If you don't like the game, fine. Don't buy it. But a lot of people, myself included, are excited for Tropical Freeze and the way you're treating anyone with a Wii U as some second-class citizen with poor social skills is a big problem with the gaming community.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3735d ago (Edited 3735d ago )

People opinions on games doesn't matter to me. I play the game myself to experience it.

So reviews don't matter.

I'm glad they didn't. I heard he was asking for way too much money to reprise his role as a mascot. Which is ludicrous since everybody knows Rambi is the real star here. Enguarde is just a second stinger at best.

The audacity of this fish! SHAME!!!
