QuakeLive Upgrading To Executable Soon

News article outlining QuakeLives update to executable. (PC, Quake Live)

That sucks.

When browser based gaming was still in it's infancy, Quake Live basically invented the idea of the facebook game, a browser game connected to a social network. They didn't actually use websites like facebook as a platform and that could be a point against them.

Now they're ditching browsers? What's the point of it then? I already have all the Quakes offline. It's like the core of the whole idea is being abandoned.

The main reason, from what I can tell, is that browsers like FIrefox and Chrome are making it harder to run third party plugins.
