Two new consoles are almost upon us, and with them a whole host of new games that launch day and date with the hardware. These “launch games” are, for many people, the first taste of a new generation and they set the stage for the years ahead. While most launch games are nothing to write home about - previous generation ports and titles rushed to meet the launch deadline - there are others whose quality and influence extend far beyond launch day and become the platform’s defining titles. Some are not just great launch games, they’re some of the best games ever made.
Remember the days of four-player couch co-op? The Wealth of Geeks team certainly does. This list brings us back to the golden years of the original Xbox with the best four-player games that were available.
Have you ever looked at a modern first-person shooter and wondered "How did we get here?" Wealth of Geeks performs a deep dive into the genre, including some of the most influential games, from the very first FPS from the cross-genre experiences that changed the game entirely.
Releasing the Nintendo Switch 2 with a Super Mario 64 remake would be the perfect way to unleash the console to the world.
If they ever did I hope they would add onto it, there's so much you could do with Princess Peach's castle alone
Each level is pretty small today in the original game, I don't like huge levels but I think they could be at least 2x bigger, or close to it and more of them, with more things to do.
They could do a mix of having open levels and more linear ones like in 3D World or Land, I doubt they will do that but it would make a change.
I'd prefer a Oydessey 2 or Galaxy 3. Besides the DS
game was a Mario 64 remake complete with more playable characters, stages, bosses and muti player content.
Yes! Let's release an almost 30 year old game to kick off the next generation for Nintendo...
I'm over re-releases...FEED ME NEW MARIO!
Good list and intelligent read. Well done
Oh man! Now I feel like breaking out my old N64.
😌
Awesome games, but did this really need to be one page per list item?
Here's the list:
Soul Calibur (Dreamcast, 1999)
Super Mario World (SNES, 1991)
Tetris (Game Boy, 1989)
Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox, 2001)
Wii Sports (Wii, 2006)
Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64, 1996)
Super Mario World and Halo are the two best launch/bundled games for me. So much fun was had from those two games alone.
N64 was the greatest console that I manage to get another one for 99cent two years after getting one for $200. Owned about 35 games and played over 40.
