Robert Workman (Modojo): There really is no game quite like Hard Time on the iOS App Store. That's because it's not every day that you get to play a simulation game that's based around surviving prison. Still, this free effort from MDickie provides a fair amount of fun and challenge, especially when it comes to staying out of trouble.
With that, you're going to need some help getting through it all, so here are some tips that will get you off to the right start. Don't worry, you won't need to trade your cigarettes for these - they're on the house.
WP - "Hard Time is one of the most unique games on either the iOS or Android app stores. It's an open world prison simulator that allows you to do whatever you want for the duration of your stay in prison. You can be the good guy or you can be the bad guy. One of the overarching goals, though, is to try to achieve perfection. Achieving perfection means increasing your stats to 100, which is no easy feat considering that they start off at 50."
WP - "Money makes the world go around, even in prison. Hard Time, which is a prison simulator for the iOS and Android platforms, has a money system just like most other games do. Money can often come in handy, such as when you want to buy objects from people, especially painkillers for a quick increase to your health."

No, that was never a real genre before this game existed, and obviously, there has never been anything quite like this game on any videogame system. It's an open world game in which you talk to and fight with guards, other prisoners, and others. You have to make the most of your stay in prison, and you can roam around the entire prison, choose how to fill your day, and see how the choices that you make affect your destiny."
I loved this game when it first came out for PC. It's pretty awesome. I wonder if the shanking and mutilation is still in the mobile version?
