The Elder Scrolls Online Will Offer an Item Store for "Fun Stuff and Services"

AusGamers writes:

According to the interview with Elder Scrolls Online director Matt Firor, the question was asked whether the MMO would include any extras like a shop or bonus points, which Firor responded with "there won't be anything like bonus points, but we will have a shop to buy kind of fun stuff and services too like name changes and things like that." The game has a subscription already, yet they're adding microtransactions on top of that? This game has a ton of potential to be great, but they're really killing it for me with all this stuff. If you're going to have microtransactions the game shouldn't have a monthly fee. If you're going to have a monthly fee than you shouldn't have microtransactions.

I just don't understand their thinking behind all this. Subscription based MMOs are failing left and right, whereas F2P MMOs like Guild Wars are very successful. Adding microtransactions on top of the sub is just asking for trouble.

I totally agree it should be one or the other and I hope because of this news there is a huge backlash. With all the MMOs coming out, this is the only one with a sub its going to get lost in the shuffle.

My friends have all bailed on this game now and want nothing to do with it anymore. Likely could have kept them if the sub was $10 instead of $15 but to throw MTs on top of it is just over kill.

And a retail box also.

$60 retail + $15/month + CS.

My earlier estimate of 3 months for TESOs life span has just been reduced to 0, it will be DOA.

Guild Wars is a B2P MMO. What they should've done is made TESO B2P. They could offer a optional subscription model that comes with perks similar to that of Tera.

Yeah that's what I meant. Buy the game but don't pay a monthly fee. It's also considered another form of F2P.

mt plus subscriptions? lol i'll stick to skyrim and play ff xiv for my mmo fix
Wizziokid  +   683d ago
Monthly fee plus microtansactions? well I'm defiantly out.

sure if the stuff is cosmetic that's ok but you can bet those 'sevices' will be things like exp boosts, bank slots etc etc
SatanSki  +   682d ago
Even if it will be only cosmetical its too much. People are paying subs to NOT HAVE ANY REAL MONEY SHOPS

It is purely doomed from the get go.

$60 for the game

+ =$15 * 12 months = $180

Total = $240 for first year. :|

(not to mention any microtransactions)

Seriously Zenimax/Bethesda? If I put $60 more, I can buy brand new PS3. :|

Sadly but truly, TES Online = DOA.

Plus the online fee if you are a console gamer

I am more excited for Witcher 3 now. Better graphics, bigger world. AND NO MONTHLY SUB / MICROTRANSACTIONS
Mythicninja  +   682d ago
Wait a minute. I read just yesterday an interview where they justified the monthly sub based on the fact that anything else would break immersion of the world. Yet now there will be an item shop and microtransactions??? With what teamfortress 2 silly hats or something? How is any of that NOT immersion breaking? It costs money to change your name? GTFO. I hope and pray they have not abandoned the traditional single player elder scrolls experience for this poppycock.

Buhahaha period ;-)
sigfredod  +   682d ago
LOL, so much for they "reason" to charge $15 a month, we want to everybody have 100% access to the same game, yeah right
aliengmr  +   682d ago
Well that isn't something I want in a subscription game. I'm not against a subscription, but I want all those services for free.

I don't want to feel like I'm in a f2p while paying $15 a month.
