DuckTales Remastered - GameSpot review

DuckTales Remastered is a shallow reimagining of the classic adventure that fails to justify its existence in the modern era.

Not Pony tails (its not my little pony), No cotton tails (its not Bugs Bunny), its DUCKTALES. This is the worst review I've seen of DUCKTALES remastered. He sounds like he has issues with wayforward. I preordered the game awhile back & I'll see soon enough if his harsh gameplay criticisms have any merit. I haven't played the original so I won't be comparing.

The original is really worth playing. id say you cant go wrong with a remaster or hd remake but to this reviewer...you can.

this is one of those feel good nostalgia games that younger gens who didnt grow up with the original may/not grasp. I really dig the art style.

hopefully this isnt the end of disney hd remakes. I know a castle of illusion is in the works but i hope quackshot, or world of illusion are considered at some point.

Oh my, I'm honestly looking forward to this game before

I hope this isn't another case of rating a years old game, based on current standards, and disguising it as a legit review.

If a game is being released in the current day, then it should be held to the standards of the current day.

When I'm reading a review, I'm ultimately only interested in the final decision of whether to buy the game or not. I don't care about what nostalgia the reviewer may or may not have for the original.

Ideally, these reviews should be written by people who never played the originals.

I already hate the reviewers who gave relatively high scores to the horribly bad Simpsons arcade game based purely on nostalgia, when it's actually one of the worst games I've ever played in my life. We don't need any more bullcrap like that.

Neonridr4296d ago

It's a remake, so we should be comparing it to the original and how it compares to that. As a stand alone game how much content can you expect out of a game that is 5 levels long? As a remake of a classic NES game, it does the job extremely faithfully. That is what we are asking out of it, not for it to be a new game.

I mean christ, I can beat Mega Man 2 in like 20 minutes if I sat down and really tried, does that make it a bad game?

KwietStorm_BLM4296d ago

No, it shouldn't be held to current standards. It's not a "new" game. It's the same game we played years ago.

@KwietStorm

"No, it shouldn't be held to current standards. It's not a "new" game. It's the same game we played years ago."

Sure, it's the same game that *WE* played years ago, but what about people who didn't? This is a 20 year old game that has a style that may not gel with people whose tastes are different than ours were 4 console generations ago. It has to be graded as a current game and in relation to its peers. That doesn't mean COD, but certainly VS Bionic Commando or Shadow Complex or other downloadable side scrollers

MartinB1054296d ago

@Neonridr, what about those who never played the original?

What is the value of a review where the basis for comparison is a game that the reader has never played?

A few comparison comments don't hurt, but those who've already played the original probably don't need a review to tell them whether to buy it or not.

funny... the reviewer mentions that the game is often too easy but than complains about frustration when you have to restart the whole level? Like 15 times? XD
Old games usually do not have save points. You just start the level from beginning ^^
I remember me playing a level 50! times. Maybe because I suck in games but that was the way it was for gamers like me. Just keep on trying :3

Tell me about it! I remember playing Aladdin, Magical Quest, Jurassic Park, Mac & Joe, Battletoads, Earth Worm Jim, Contra, etc. Oh those times when you either had the patience to play a game over and over again, or you were just not a gamer. Simple as that.

joel_c174296d ago

You just mentioned so many cool games it brought a tear to my eye!

Battletoads. The original controller breaker.

10 Best Disney Games Ever Made, Ranked

Despite Walt Disney's mixed history with video games, these games embody the magic of Disney the best.

When you think of Disney and video games, the first image that comes to your head could be a variety of things. Perhaps it's Kingdom Hearts, which remains one of the best Square Enix games due in little part to Disney’s influence.

Otherwise, it could be a classic game, since Disney has been mostly absent from the gaming world lately, save for some mobile ventures. Whether it be a nostalgic adventure with classic characters or a movie tie-in that makes an impression, let’s dust off Disney’s videogame legacy and find those quality standouts.
