How Splinter Cell: Blacklist Is A Step Back For The Series

GamingUnion.net: "Ubisoft didn't have the best first showing for Splinter Cell: Blacklist at E3 2012 when the game was officially announced. Everyone was worried that the series was just going to continue its more action oriented approach with the series much like Conviction. For most Splinter Cell: Conviction was a good idea that probably was in development for to long. However, Ubisoft has been taking the right steps since E3 to show that Blacklist is actually going to be a better mix of action, but still retain the kind of stealth the series became famous for."

Interesting, hadn't really looked into this game much, but have been considering getting back into the franchise for quite some time now and this does sound promising.

DevilishSix3915d ago

As I have been saying since reveal, it doesn't look like a Splinter Cell game, it looks all COD like and with no Michael Ironside, it doesn't feel like one either. I won't buy this and I am sure many others feel the same. Bring back Ironside and we can talk.

SillyYou3915d ago (Edited 3915d ago )

I'm not english so i have a different voice actor (he is IMO better for Sam as Ironside ;)) but the game looks still not like a splinter cell.

Legion213915d ago

So if cod had Michael Ironside you'd buy it instantly? I'm sure gameplay is more important than one actor. You people are making a huge deal over nothing. Actors change get over it.

Sam Fisher3915d ago

@legion
Its not about if its iron side here or there, its just that they made this character with this voice actor, 2 generations having the same voice actor, its the same thing with david hayter, you know bad everyone feels that these great voice actors that define these chars and just get thrown out like an old towel? Would you like it if they changed masterchief or mario? You know how off it sounds now, its going to be the same thing what happened with infamous 2, where the char doesnt feel alive and youre going to watch gameplay and script reading instead of imersed with the game, b/c everyone is used to having this char original voice

starchild3915d ago (Edited 3915d ago )

I'm a huge Splinter Cell fan and while I am not happy about Sam Fisher no longer being voiced by Michael Ironside, I agree with Legion21 that it isn't such a big deal.

The gameplay in Blacklist looks like a return to what made Splinter Cell great, along with keeping some of the better additions from Conviction. It truly looks like a combination of the best parts of older and newer Splinter Cell games.

It looks absolutely fantastic to me and I am really excited to jump back into Sam Fisher's boots.

Legion213914d ago

@Sam Fisher with that said things change as time goes on. I'm sure you've seen the James Bond "argument", or look at Batman. There's been several movies with different actors portraying him. And I've played through both of the inFamous games, after about an hour of hearing the new voice actor you get used to it. Just enjoy the game, the actor won't effect how it plays.

Saw a Blacklist game play demo way back last year and was honestly impressed, and have just recently bought a pre-owned copy of Conviction ( a big revelation as compared to the disappointment that was Double Agent ).

Looking positive about Blacklist as I once did with the first 3 original old time Splinter Cell faves.

Iceman_Nightmare3915d ago

The ackward moment when you realized that Splinter Cell Conviction has better graphics than the sequel Splinter Cell: Blacklists

starchild3915d ago

Uh, hell no it doesn't. Are you blind?

Splinter Cell Blacklist, especially on PC, is a huge leap over Conviction and it is easily going to be one of the best looking games around.

Here's a video of the PC version:

FarCryLover1823915d ago

It looks stealthier than Conviction, that's for sure.

But it's still deviated too far from what the original series was. Where is the lockpicking, where is the computer hacking, where is the reading emails, where is the reading notes in the OPSAT, where is Ironside, where is the voice of Grimsdottir, where is my mind?

FarCryLover1823915d ago

Well, I am glad that you all don't miss those features... because I sure do ;_;.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - A Decade in the Shadows

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell has been out of action for a decade, so it's time to look back at 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

CoNn3rB252d ago

Sam Fisher is evidently the most skilled stealth operative because no-one has seen him in his own game for years

kevco33252d ago

10 years, in fact. He must be, like, 60 by now?

phoenixwing252d ago (Edited 252d ago )

why make an inspired game that takes effort when you can half ass it with multiplayer gaas games and filler filled assassins creed games?

That question up there is the reason you don't see splinter cell games

zarbor252d ago

Yup, another example that Ubisoft has no idea what they are doing.

MIDGETonSTILTS17252d ago

The entire mark and execute system belonged in another game.

It’s cool, but the polar opposite to how Sam Fisher initially handled.

The original trilogy made shooting very, very difficult, yet a viable option, which ultimately motivates stealth.

The mark/execute system makes shooting stupid easy, to the point of why would you even bother trying stealth as an alternative?

FYouDad252d ago

Because Ghost is the method fans of the series actually prefer? IMark and execute is never forced upon the player you liiterally never have to bother using it even once throughout Blacklist.

Tody_ZA252d ago

The sad part is that I actually really enjoyed the last game, Blacklist. It may have lacked the iconic voice but the gameplay was excellent, and blended stealth, action and a mix really great compared to most games, where none of the three options felt like the wrong way to play. I really hope they either produce a remake of the original game or a proper sequel.

Rikimaru-00252d ago

Isn't UBI Soft remaking splinter cell.

Sam Fisher Deserves Better

Alex S. from Link-Cable writes: "Ubisoft, we need to chat. Please, have a seat. Thanks. Ok, so I think you know why you’re here. No it has nothing to do with all those game delays, we’ll talk about that later. What? No it’s not about the Skulls & Bones and Beyond Good & Evil 2 falling off the face of the Earth, just listen. We need to talk about Splinter Cell. Don’t give me that look, you know this conversation needs to happen. The way you’ve treated the series, its fans and poor Sam Fisher himself is sad, infuriating and just plain disappointing and it needs to stop."

The Fish!!!

I'd love to see a remastered edition of those games as well as something new. It's about time.

UltraNova1492d ago

MGS is done, at least as we know it so it's now or never Ubi, give Fisher the reboot it deserves. And for Gods sake, don't you dare turn Splinter Cell into another Division/Ghost reckon online abomination instead of a SP focused steath action game!

Psychonaut851492d ago

You know they will though. This is Ubisoft we’re talking about

zachyBROosevelt1492d ago (Edited 1492d ago )

I would love a new splinter cell, maybe even a reboot at this point. Sam Fisher deserves it

Profchaos1492d ago

I think reboot the entire franchise the games were great but every time they try to make him human like a father or something it comes of as unbelievable

hiawa231492d ago

They added damn near every SC game to Xbox1X back compat enahnced list. That is a lot of Sam enhanced and I am loving it, but Sam deserves a new next gen game.
