Why PlayStation 4 Still Has The Edge Over Xbox One When It Comes To Indie Games

Forbes - Adam Boyes has a fascinating job.

Working in “developer relations” at Sony may not sound particularly glamorous, but Boyes heads up the team behind Sony’s indie self-publishing effort: Pub Fund.

I think the Xbox one has a better set up BUT Sony is more open to developers.

I can't tell if I got disagrees because fanboys disliked that I said Xbox has the better set up or that sony is more open to devs.... Let's get realistic people. Every XB1 will be a Dev kit. I'm defifinatly not making any games but for those people out there that will that huge news. On the other side Sony's always had praise for being so supportive to devs and letting them be creative.

NewsForge4345d ago (Edited 4345d ago )

Even if every Xbox One can be a dev kit, Sony are giving free dev kits to anyone who wants one completely free of charge (worth 2500$) for the first 12 months. During that first year, every dev who would of wanted a dev kit will have them already.

not to all devs and also what happens after that 12 months they have to pay for it??? most games take more than 12 months to create its a money making strategy

would you rather pay $2500 for 5 dev kits or end up paying $2500 for one after 12 months due to your unfinished game????

urwifeminder4346d ago

No edge I can see then again im not looking for a ps4.

Do we REALLY care THAT much about indie games on our next gen system, or is this just the new popular buzz word in the gaming community?

Yes the are vital to help build bigger studios and to help diversify games, but I am not buying an xb1 or my powerful ps4 for indie games.

CYCLEGAMER4346d ago (Edited 4346d ago )

I didn't say that I didn't care, but for me its not that big of a deal. And FOR ME the indie titles are nothing to brag and boast about.

Indies can be fun (most are crap), but I am not buying a next gen console for them.

@karpetburnz

Exactly, games like journey, trials hd, limbo, knack, are cool, problem is that there arent to many of these. Again some indies are cool but the majority of them are garbage. Unless they are on the level of those mentioned above, I will not be downloading

Karpetburnz4346d ago

Personally I'm not a big fan of Indie games, however some Indie games can be very good, like Journey.

Timesplitter144346d ago

I find indie games much more fun than AAA games

CYCLEGAMER4346d ago

WOW really??? Well good for you buddy!

FlameHawk4345d ago

Then you have not been playing good AAA games....

Gaming_Guru4345d ago

Games like "Cry of Fear" if it had more money and developers / designers I can see the game being number one for horror.

PSVita4345d ago

I agree Timesplitter. Indies just have more heart, maybe because there's less risk and less pressure to appeal to the mass. Same with indie movies and music. :)

I_am_Batman4345d ago (Edited 4345d ago )

@FlameHawk: Maybe you have not been playing good indie games. I think there is no connection between the budget of a game and it's quality. But to make a successful indie game the devs need to make it something special so it often results in more creative ideas while a AAA game can get away with a much more generic approach.

AAA games on the other hand accomplish movie-like expiriences, epic boss battles, huge scale and orchestrated soundtracks.

I am glad that we'll get to enjoy both worlds on next gen consoles cause both have their charm and I'm glad that I don't have to choose.

I like Infamouse Second son, the multiple F2P games, PS+ Killzone:Shadow fall, more indie game Knack of PS4. If you like dead rising Dead Rising 3, Halo , Forza or TitanFall then get XBOX ONE.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate Co-op Review [Co-Optimus]

"A few years ago, a mobile game developer called Super Evil Megacorp had the brilliant idea of making a TMNT roguelike. After first releasing it on Apple Arcade, they wisely recognized the game’s potential on other platforms. TMNT: Splintered Fate has slowly but surely come to all major platforms, finally arriving on Xbox today. Not only is Splintered Fate a fine roguelike and co-op game, but it’s also one of the best TMNT games ever made," says Co-Optimus.

Enter the Gungeon is Finally Coming to Mobile, and With Online Co-op to Boot

"Dodge Roll and Devolver Digital's Enter the Gungeon is a hit twin-stick shooter roguelike that debuted nearly ten years ago. Since then, it has received several DLCs and a single-player spin-off called Exit the Dungeon. Well, it seems that there's more life left in Enter the Gungeon yet. It's finally coming to Android and iOS, and with online co-op not found in the big-screen versions," says Co-Optimus.
