Next Generation AMD Ruby Tech Demo Crafted With CryEngine 3.5 – Features Detailed

The latest AMD Ruby Tech demo is in the works and recently was showcased by AMD at their ChinaJoy 2013 Exhibition Booth. The work on Ruby was started by ATi (now known as AMD) in 2003 as an aim to showcase innovative capabilities of the latest graphic cards at that time. Its 2013 now and AMD have crafted yet again another Ruby Tech demo with the power of CryEngine 3.

The new SSDO (Screen Space Directional Occlusion ) technology provides smooth contact shadows and is more physically correct and enhanced than the SSAO method. SSDO also helps in eliminating self-shadowing issues and improves global lightning quality. All these technologies showcased by AMD were rendered off a single Radeon HD 7970 showing the optimizations AMD has made being EA’s hardware partner. It should be noted that AMD provides exclusive optimization for Radeon cards with Frostbite 3 powered games such as the upcoming Battlefield 4 and it could also provide better optimizations with CryEngine 3 developed games.

Developers are still doing it. Games like Metro Last Light, The Witcher 2, and Crysis 3 look a generation ahead of anything on current consoles and even next gen console games are only barely reaching that bar.

I played both games at that time and F.E.A.R. was definitely the better looking game.

But I do have to say that the 360 got closer to high end PC gaming than we are seeing with the XB1 and PS4.

These new consoles are more equivalent to mid-range gaming PCs. Of course, with optimizations and more efficient use of the hardware, the consoles will still punch above their weight. But they won't match high end PCs this time. By the time these consoles launch even mid-range PCs will be beating them.

I'm not rich and I can budget for and build a gaming rig. Its all about how you handle your money. If you can afford to spend $400-$500 on a console you can easily spend another $100-$200 on top of that if you wait just a little longer and save your money to build yourself a gaming rig that blows the consoles (including the next gen) out of the water.

It is all about choice. And if you choose one or the other you should be happy with your choice. But please don't act like gaming on a PC is something only the "rich" can afford. Most of the high end PC gamers I know are waiters, cashiers, and floor salesmen.

What I understand about this: Most of the highest rated games are console games.

It's not about how pretty it is, it is about how it plays. Graphics can't save a game.

No, graphics don't make a crappy game good, but they do make great games even more enjoyable.

Performance is more important still. I like to get a solid 60fps in my games, not suffer through framerates that judder between 20 and 30fps. This makes the games look better due to the increased temporal resolution and it also makes them play better due to the much faster control response times.

Most of the highest rated games are not console games. That's a load of crap. In fact, most of the highest rated games are multiplats. If you took a list of the top 200 highest rated games most of them would be multiplats.

And as for exclusives, the PC has just as many highly rated exclusives as any console. Actually more than any single console.

Considering the pc running this is probrably 3 to 4 times the price of a console its a fair trade off. You want the best graphics possible well its gonna cost you.

The best comment I've seen in this post. My PC tower Intel Hexa core CPU and Nvidia GTX 670 cost me over $1000 by themselves. So yeah I would expect my PC to thrash $400-500 consoles. With that said consoles games drives the market. Compare the top 100 games sold on the PC to Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo current consoles, its not even close.

No, DirectX isn't a piece of shit that slows everything down, it is what makes it possible for the same PC game to be played on thousands of different hardware configurations and allows us to have backwards compatibility with thousands of games going back many years.

The overhead of DirectX is a very small price to pay for what it allows for on PC.

The XBOX One cost $499 and the PS4 cost $399. Graphics cards are more expensive than the consoles themselves. so I imagine from a graphics standpoint that next gen consoles will be steps behind.

Yes starchild DX does not give developers as much access to hardware as they want. It may be backwards compatible with other versions which isn't always a good thing.

In any environment OPENGL is faster then DX even in windows.

As for my rant about PC, i own a decent one myself. But i'm not up my own arse about it.

Just like the idiots on here saying PS4 will struggle to run planetside 2@60fps.

Don't make me laugh Planetside 2 will run on PS4 easily @ 60fps at 1080p with aa.
