I wish they'd give us more core exclusives but their successes without exclusives for the X360 isn't much motivation now is it?

Still, well done. I've thoroughly enjoyed this generation having owned and played a hundred games and with more still to come in the form of Project Spark and the games with gold program I can honestly say my Xbox 360 has served me well.

Good job Microsoft, but there's plenty of room for improvement.

FrigidDARKNESS3934d ago

With all the backlash they received this generation for the lacl of exclusive titles. The next generation is going to be very different and will be more exciting for xbox one owners.

GameCents3934d ago

I disagree. That backlash came from hardcore gamers and unfortunately didn't have any financial consequences which we all know is the language of all big companies.
The backlash was there and it was very justified but too few people actually did anything about it that would impact MS in such a way that they'd change their stance. I myself got sick of it and bought myself a ps3 last year when I got tired of waiting for core exclusives on par with SONY's offerings.
Unfortunately Xbox Live is still a major feather in the 360's cap and despite PS3 offering free MP and better and more games, I still find myself pouring hundreds of hours on 360 versions of multiplats online. Coupled with my love for the 360 controller, MS have got me hooked inspite of my own protests

^^What does Sony or Playstation have to do with this article/discussion?

georgeenoob3934d ago (Edited 3934d ago )

Many people are forgetting BlackTusk's unannounced game, said to be the new face for Xbox like Halo and Gears.

True_Samurai3934d ago

^^ Microsoft Osaka also george

GameCents3934d ago

^^What does Sony or Playstation have to do with this article/discussion?

I didn't mean to cause any trouble. I was just indicating that despite xbox having less exclusives than ps3, it because very successful and any good company will want to stick with a successful business model.

I was simply putting up my own experience as an example of why I don't believe MS have learned from the backlash from the hardcore gamers because even though I myself bought a ps3 (again, my example, not making this about SONY) I still buy and play primarily for and on the 360

I apologise for dragging sony into this but when on the subject of exclusives (which was my topic) it would be remiss to not mention the competition.
THIS IS NOT A PS4 VS XBOX ONE comment and I apologise yet again if it came off that way. My previous comments on The One(post 180) will vouch for where I stand on it. *spoiler* I'm crazy excited.

DA_SHREDDER3934d ago (Edited 3934d ago )

They are lucky they have Halo, Forza, and Dance Central. They are also lucky third parties bite every time they whip out their wallet.

The One isn't even out yet and Project Spark, Quantum Break, Halo 5, and Dead Rising 3 have already been announced...with more announcements coming later in the year.

In terms of core exclusives, Microsoft has been delivering in spades.

Minato-Namikaze3934d ago

But can they sustain it is the question. Long term will MS still continue to push true exclusives like they are now? I for one am gonna wait 3-4 years to see what they do.

GameCents3934d ago

I'll always be the first to admit, MS won the games battle at E3, no question about it and the X ONE is my console of choice at launch because of the games they showed. However history is a good indicator of future behaviour. The 360 also started out with exclusives and core support from MS.
I had come from owning a PS2 when I upgraded to a 360 because the PS3 was not financially viable for me at the time. The games MS released took the sting out of not being able to own a ps3 at first and eventually I grew to just LOVE my Xbox.
Then somewhere along the road they decided they'd hooked enough of us core gamers and would now focus on trying to reel in the casuals. You cannot deny it, that is exactly what they did.

Core games from MS started to come less frequently and at one point they released 17 Kinect exclusives in one year and about a quarter of that for core gamers.
I remain optimistic that that won't happen this gen but I'm not going to be naive about it.
Why even buy the X1 if I'm so worried they'll go back to their old ways you say? I'll give you 5 reasons.
1-5. Forza Motorsport 5. Nuff said.

Oh yeah and Quantum Break.

Electric-flamingo3934d ago

Dude, don't apologize. Most people realized what you were trying to say.

GameCents3934d ago

Thank you. I love the Xbox brand. It is my favourite gaming brand at the moment but I do want to see improvements.
At the same time I cannot help but be compelled by the games to buy an Xbox One.
As a lover of games, I can't not have Forza 5 or Project Spark or Quantum Break. I just can't. So future worries be damned because right now, The One has got the games I want.

Back on topic, well done Microsoft and Xbox, I hope you continue to strive with a new captain at the helm. Julie, do us proud.

Very nice awesome news...The games Division is financially stable.

DiRtY3934d ago

Well... it is since 2008. It has been profitable since then.

xReDeMpTiOnx3934d ago

That's good news for Microsoft but that's crazy that they released very few exclusives and still were up.

I won't be getting an x1 for awhile because of the history of Microsoft. They may start out well with games but they forget about core gamers in the years to come.

Not to mention about 11-13 of the 15 exclusive they themself a said that would be coming out the first launch year have already been announced so that really only leaves a handful for the rest
Of the year :/

Electric-flamingo3934d ago (Edited 3934d ago )

Is that your expert opinion?
Come to this article to complain?

You troll constantly. No one really gives a crap what you say. Yor a joke. A Whitney brat on a no-name website.

Neoninja3934d ago

Flamingo you should probably edit some of that so you don't get marked for bad language.

xReDeMpTiOnx3934d ago (Edited 3934d ago )

I wasent trolling at all ur just ignorant.

I was simply stating facts not opinions.

How do I troll constantly? Please enlighten me.

Fanboys have to many things up their bum real talk

First line was me stating that's good for Microsoft.

Gahhh fanboys will never change why waste my time. Duces

FrigidDARKNESS3934d ago

Keep in mind they invested close to a billion dollars in cloud technology and infrasyructure. There will be large scale games shooters and rpg made exclusively for that.

xReDeMpTiOnx3934d ago

Lets just wait and see how that plays out cloud is still very picky and spoty. Once everything is set in stone I don't doubt Microsoft cloud will be great but I'm withholding judgment until things actually unfold.

Electric-flamingo3934d ago

Ok, before I show you why your a troll. Are you stating that you NEVER troll?

DiRtY3934d ago

I can't believe they improved over last year with all the R&D for the Xbox One. Well done.

Microsoft’s Surface and Xbox hardware revenues take a big hit in Q3

Microsoft just posted the third quarter of its 2024 fiscal financial results. The software maker made $61.9 billion in revenue and a net income of $21.9 billion during Q3. Revenue is up 17 percent, and net income has increased by 20 percent.

Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.

solideagle1h ago

you should apply in MS PR team buddy, I think you will do a great job in my humble opinion :)

Cacabunga1h ago

I can tell people like you are an absolute minority..

If service is up means their fans and fanboys accepted this model and subscribed to it. The near future you will see a big decline because the service is saturated.

shinoff218317m ago

But that's been ms for years. When things aren't going their way they try to change the way things are said. For instance console sales are down, they stop telling how many sold instead telling us how many hours spent in halo or headshots. So it makes sense console sales down just say people are playing on more devices then previous. What they won't say is how many xbox players jumped ship to ps5.

Xbox hardware revenue tanks to lowest point of Xbox Series generation

Profchaos3h ago

I'm not surprised surface is struggling they aren't relevant anymore

XBManiac2h ago

Too expensive hardware when others offer the same or more for less? Good work, Green Team.

SimpleDad2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

"Despite some early successes for Xbox games on rival platforms, Xbox hardware is down by a massive 31 percent this quarter."
"Without Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s overall gaming revenue would have actually declined this quarter."
"Xbox content and services would have only been up a single percent without Activision Blizzard..."
"It looks like next quarter is going to be a similar story for gaming at Microsoft, too."

That is crazy... so A/B/K is carrying the whole Xbox gaming.
Oh and Microsoft will be fine. Windows, Office and Cloud are growing with each pc purchase.

purple1012h ago

Activision: "we gonna need a bigger rucksack/backpack please"

Microsoft: "why's that"

Activision: "to carry yo' weak ass'

Profchaos1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Top brass have also wanted to start seeing returns on the 100 billion they have put into various Xbox related moves so seeing more multiplatform games is highly likely especially from abk

It's basically saying that PlayStation is the reason Xbox is afloat right now thinks to Ps5 versions of COD

Kornholic17m ago

So basically PS and PC gamers' money is keeping Xbox on life support.

Why Monopolies In Gaming Must Not Be Allowed

As of right now, there are no monopolies in the games industry, and for the sake of the medium as a whole, they never should either.

thorstein13h ago

Shouldn't be allowed in any field.

Inverno9h ago

And yet the biggest tech companies in America are essentially that. They buy up all the small comps only to kill them off and steal what they have, and if they can't buy em they bleed them to death.

jwillj2k48h ago

Eventually they’ll realize the value is with the employee not the company. Buying an IP means nothing if the people who contributed are let go. They’ll get it one day.

MrCrimson7h ago

tech is different because they buy threats and then kill them. Twitter bought Vine and did nothing with it. Despite people seemingly liking it. Could've had tiktok a decade before bytedance. go figure.

Zenzuu8h ago

Monopolies shouldn't be allowed regardless. Not just for gaming.

MrCrimson7h ago

They buy IPs not talent. That's why these buyouts never work and the IPs die. Right now it's too expensive to develop games - but I expect that to shift maybe as AI tools can make it easier. The best games have been indie games for awhile as big developers fuck their ips to death with "games as a service" -
