Sony teases “many cool things” for PS4 and Vita at Gamescom

In a tweet earlier today Tony Clark from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe teased us with a PS4 and PSVita hashtags, referencing the upcoming gamescom (starting Aug. 21st) as having “many cool things” to show us.

Don't get Sony strategy. Feeding a platform at the end of a gen is cool, but they have nearly twice as many exclusives announced for PS3 as PSV and PS4 combined. At christmas, PS3 is queen.

On the other hand, Microsoft killed the 360 in 2010, and it's sad, but now thez have many studios and a way better line up for next gen.

Naughty Dog will change everything, i hope.

In that case I dont see any reason to get a PS4 at launch, may as well get Xmas 2014 and spend 2013 enjoying Xone exclusives.

There isn't anything killer about the Xbox one's launch line up, Forza, KI and Ryse are confirmed for launch everything else is releasing next year around Spring and fall. Titan Fall, Project Spark, Halo 5, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break and Dead Rising 3 all launch launch after Q1 2014...

You have 3 first party titles and a number of Cross Generation multiplatform releases much like the PS4.

Driveclub knack and KZ shadow round out the big blockbuster for the PS4 along with the usual sports, and cross gen releases... While Big games like Infamous and the order and others round out the rest of the 2014, and there is still 15 other first party games to announce and launch within The first year, so lets not pretend the PS4 is hurting for games. Because it's not.

While I don't agree it's a bleak lineup, I do agree that the launch games CURRENTLY for the Ps4 aren't that strong. Sure, Watch Dogs looks nice and Killzone looks very interesting but I haven't seen any launch game for the PS4 that makes me go crazy. I'm still buying it but I'm not interested in any of the launch games yet. If inFamous: Second Son was a launch game that'd be a different story. I'm sick of shooters so I won't get Killzone, BF3 or Ghost. Watch Dogs looks nice but It's still not a day 1 game for me. Knack... meh.

Killer launch lineup?? You cannot say that this early. Are the games released yet? Do they have a review score?? Judging a game by only its trailers and demo gameplay is not how the whole game will turn out. Look at Too human, look at lair, look at mirrors edge although it has potential. and look at rage, how people hail it the first time they see and when the game launch arrived, what happened?? Mediocre scores all over. I say there is "Equal footing" on exclusives here. Deadrising 3, quantum break, halo 5, sunset overdrive, titanfall, RYSE, crimson dragon, project spark, forza 5, killer instinct VS. I disagree. A killer launch lineup? I can't see a single game in there aside from Forza that is a worthwhile exclusive. Ryse is a linear QTE filled nightmare were you can literally never lose. What made the Dead Rising series so unique was its humour - but that's completely gone now so it just looks like every other game with zombies. Killer Instinct doesn't look like KI, and the fact that they took it away from the original creators in order to give it to a pretty terrible developer (Double Helix made the horrendously bad Battleship game) doesn't make me feel confident in its success.

The worst part? Nearly every exclusive is from a third party. It feels like the 360 all over again, where third party exclusives were secured to mask the lack of first party development. The result? From 2010-2013, we really only ever saw a new core title from the Halo, Gears, or Forza series. I bought a 360 at launch and loved it. I'm not thinking this repeat by Microsoft will do much to sway me this time.

Look guy...I'm a HUGE Xbox 360 fan, go ahead and look me up-same gamer tag name, but I can't stand by and defend what M$ tried to do, even if the decision WAS reversed. Not only that, but the "great" features showcased (pun intended) have as much impact as a gamer, as a car salesman trying to sell me a muscle car by showing off its "green" features and MPG. I don't watch cable TV in my spare time, I play video games (imagine that). Also-Maybe my grandma would be impressed with the Kinect, but I'm not. It also worries me (love him or hate him) the face behind this product (Don Mattrick) was either canned or he quit to join a failing Facebook video game company rather than stick around for HIS WORDS "The most exciting time in his career". The new MS boss doesn't know jack about video games and was a developer behind the atrocious Windows 8. Finally, judging by preorders (AND allocation numbers, 16 Ones, 60 PS4s per store) I like to play games online with friends. I see a lot of empty lobbies on X1. It should also be noted, there are rumors of ESRAM and "yield" issues on the X1 according to developers. With MS' track record on RROD and LYING about it for months after, I don't want to be the Guinea Pig forking over $500 on launch day.

Lol, IMO Killzone shadow fall and infamous second son looks better than anything shown on the Xbox one, drive club and knack look like fun games as well and I might consider getting both some time. And im excited to see the order 1886 gameplay.

IMO Ryse was the best looking Xbox one game and that's getting a lot of hate right now because it has a lot of QTE'S. Forza looks ok but I'm not a fan if sim racers, killer instinct is a free to play game made buy a bad developer, and you have to buy the characters seperately. Dead rising looks ok I guess but nothing special.

Overall I much prefer the announced PS4 games, and there's still A LOT more to be announced. 20 exclusives in the first year and 12 new IP's. that's more than what the Xbox has for the first year.

Dead Rising 3 IS a launch title for the xb1 and if you are going to include Knack for ps4 I would also include Kinect sports rivals for xb1, as neither one of these titles look to be killer apps for either system.

Heavy Rain and Beyond two souls were great games Sony fans say. Both games were like interactive movies but they complain about Qte's in Ryse. The Last of Us another exclusive Sony brags about is a horror game. Dead Rising 3 gets a little more serious and they say it's ruined. It still has its crazy weapons and some comedy but the added horror is for a better game

While no one has played Beyond Two Souls at this point, Heavy Rain (a game that I am currently in the process of playing again for a 3rd playthrough) IS full of QTE's, but who cares? The game is awesome!

Even though Crytek has said numerous times, "that these are optional QTE's and that was a special build for E3 so that they can show people the action scenes", people still find a way to B1tch about it.

To be fair, Sony fanboys and non fanboys have every reason to brag about "The Last of Us" the game was simply amazing.

My point is that you cannot try to make a point about exclusives, and subtract exclusives from another consol to help prove your point, especially when neither one of the titles will sell the hardware. The amount of people buying a ps4 for knack or an xb1 for Kinect Sports is VERY VERY small.

And for you to say something like Knack is for kids and kinect sports isn't just puts your foot directly in your mouth.

On Topic: I'm pretty sure that a fourth Uncharted game for the PS4 is coming but I don't expect to see it until the VGA this year.

Gamescom will be for announcing Media Molecule's next project, LBP3 by a different studio, SCE London's core title (PLZ B THE GETAWAY REBOOT!!!!), and possibly Guerilla's RPG and Stig's title from SSM.

Imagine manipulating someone else's game environment with your Dualshock 4/PS Eye all online! One player can manipulate the flow of the ocean waves turning it to tidal waves sinking down a ship, or using the controller to cause earthquakes in the environment! This should be down in a half third person/Real Time Strategy game hybrid. It would be too crazy to make a player control a God in a future God of War game (God of war adventure or MMO maybe lol), but I am just getting ahead of myself here lol!

I think its highly possible for Sony to use their Dualshock 4 controller to manipulate gameplay, like that demotrastion in the video. Put your hands over the blue light on the Dualshock and bam! You covered the sun of a game world environment. A game like Black and White can use that feature.

I doubt Sony could overclock it with how small the PS4 is. I know it consumes less power but it can only withstand so much heat.

Totally not worth it. You can't just increase the clock here without a hit to system stability. Not only does the clock jump up, but so too does the cost of production since you need to worry about quality affecting its longevity. We're also talking about having to overhaul the cooling, which would increase noise. Not to mention the huge jump in power consumption. Anandtech extrapolates a roughly 66% cpu power consumption jump if the CPU clock is increased from 1.6 to 2.0. The PS4's powerdraw would increase about 20 W but all that extra heat would be confined into a very small space.

I don't see this ever happening - I also don't see a reason for it to happen.

They've got plenty, I'm not sure why people keep saying the Xbox one has a better launch line up, of the 9 games announced for Xbox one, 3 launch with the console, while the others all release after spring 2014... Ryse, Forza and KI. And then you have your cross gen multiplatform, games, The Crew, Need for Speed, Battlefield, COD, Watch_Dogs, Assassins Creed, NBA Live Madden, UFC, NBA 2k14.

Beyond That, there isn't anything to scream and Spend $500 this November that you can't get for $100 less.

Ryse and KI wasn't anything to write home about.

Sunset Overdrive, Halo 5, Project Spark, Quantum Break, Titan Fall and Dead Rising 3, all release NEXT YEAR.

Lol, really? They've announced 5 First party exclusives since Feb this year 3 of which launch this year and the other 2 of that 5 launch Spring and Summer respectively, that's just 5 of 20. It's as if we've forgotten just how Sony works with it's games... They've proved they deliver games... Lets just them show the games, Gamescon, TGS and Spike VGA will all see titles revealed which will all launch before close of Calendar Year 2014.

This is very much a possibility. Some point between now and Q1 2014 Sony needs to effectively make a last ditch effort for some kind of mainstream Vita popularity. If they can't come up with something and the companion device idea doesn't help enough then the device will suffer the fate of slow adoption through price cuts, and that's best case scenario. I wouldn't be surprised to see something completely out of left field here. Moving God of War to Vita or maybe something new from the Santa Monica studio. The Naughty Dog team that has been unaccounted for since Uncharted 3... what are they up to? Most would expect and want a ps4 title, but given how successful the studio is, it's not beyond the possibility to try and get a system seller out of them. This could work twofold as the Killzone release will be just around the corner to help people get into a mindset that they want to own a Vita.

God of war is already on handhelds..... Generally larger studios dont work on the vita (naughty dog, SSM, Sucker punch) they usually give vita titles to younger and smaller development studios to hone their skills (see Ready at Dawn).

Oh, I agree and understand. What I mean to say is that Vita adoption is not guaranteed after ps4 release. This could be the opportunity for Sony to give it a major push. Given that the gaming community has obviously made an issue of next gen console prices, how many people are going to rush out and spend another $200-$250 on a Vita. If those IGN poll results are any indication, price is a more important factor in next gen purchase than second screen. I have a Vita and I enjoy it very much, but as it stands right now, I'd venture to say that remote play is more effective at keeping current owners with Sony for the next gen jump than enticing new sales of Vita hardware.
It might not be too farfetched for a major ps3 dev to help sell the system.

ND team 2 is most likely working on U4. What I do wanna know what the team behind Golden AByss is working on. They've been quite for a long time.

World price cut hopefully announced at gamescom will surely help to open the floodgates. Mix that in with a new HDMI out and probably 4G model and it could potentially get thousands of sells fast.

Remote play for the Vita I think will be huge. I'm also curious if the 3G version could play over the internet with your PS4 as the server. I think they might have more detailed announcements like that. Hopefully they can also get VR technology like the Oculus Rift to work on the PS4 as well. Outlast would be an amazing game to play on the Oculus Rift. Gotta love being 100% immersed in a horror game. =D

Tenchu isn't coming back. They even released Shinobido 2 for PS Vita which was developed by the same people who made Tenchu.

All their games lately have sold really poorly. Cause in all seriousness Tenchu has never really changed too much so it isn't a surprise they don't do well.

Even Shinobido 2 looked and played just like the first Tenchu games. If someone managed to buy them out I would be super surprised, I just don't see it happening.

Tenchu is a series that never got the AAA treatment it deserved. ND would do an awesome job. They would make the story better, the voice acting, they would refine the mechanics and gameplay and the stealth in Last of Us is intense. A new Ip from Stig's team. ND has typically announced games at VGAs in December, so that will likely be the launching point to move momentum into the next year. Especially after the high point of the Last of Us this year.

Realistically I expect this to happen.

They'll announce 2-3 PS4 games from their European Developers and second party partners.

-Sumo Digital will announce LBP3
-Media Molecule will announce it's new IP
-Ninja Theory will announce a New Ip for PS4 exclusively.

This isn't the first tease about Vita at Gamescom. Like I mentioned above, this is (probably) their best opportunity business wise to create enough hype to move units before holiday season comes and wallets get lighter. As soon as next gen consoles drop not only will there be less vita news coverage, but there will be less people to see, read, or hear it. Hardcore gamers will be putting in their time on a slew of new next gen games.
I'm expecting a massive push coming for vita. I'm not expecting updated hardware for vita, especially so if there's still unsold inventory. I wouldn't even bank on the same model with a 4g radio installed. This would only benefit the vita if it meant you could stream ps4 games to anywhere you have 4g coverage. Highly unlikely considering the greater bandwidth limitation goes to your ps4 network's upload capacity. No one wants to see the mobile data usage of high def video streaming all the time either.

Realistically, I think this is Vita's last chance to move serious units before settling on just being a niche product. I love my Vita, but I just don't see myself streaming games to it if I have to be in Wi-Fi range of my future ps4.

I'm hoping at least half of Sony's show will be Vita centric.

Gamescom 2011, Gamescom 2012 has been epic for Vita, there is just so many reasons for Gamescom 2013 to be a good show for Vita, they showed all about PS4 at E3, now all they'll do in Gamescom 2013 is show the games it's getting so Sony can totally share some times for PS Vita at Gamescom 2013, it doesn't hurt, AT ALL.

Realistically, I think this is no one's or nothing's last chance for anything, Vita is only getting started.

Are people seriously still going on about 4G PS Vita's. That shit isn't happening.

The 3G's were a huge failure enough and I knew that long before they planned on releasing them. Even with the limitations and caps that come with 4G it is not practical for gaming systems.

I guess if you can afford some absurd cell phone plan with that can cover all that data usage sure.. but Sony is not going to waste their time and money on 4G Vita now. People have been saying this since the first PS4 reveal it is just beyond moot already. Give it up, it ain't happening anytime soon.

Maybe way down the line when they start revising the PS Vita they might but even then because 4G is so expensive to even put into a device I still don't see it happening. Unless 4G chipsets become cheaper but by now you would think they would be cheaper but they still are expensive.

They would have to increase the Vita's price tag by at least $100 dollars just to have a 4G one.

That would not fly. Why do you think 4G phones and tablets are so expensive, mainly because of the 4G chipsets in them. Take out the chipset and they would be a lot cheaper.
