Peddling around France on a glorious Summer’s day might be the holiday of choice for a variety of folk, but come June and July the roads are taken over by the peloton, sprinters, climbers and breakaway riders as cyclists and cycling teams from around the world compete in the most famous and revered bicycle road race in the world - the Tour de France. In its one hundredth year in 2013 Cyanide Studios and Focus Home Interactive have released a variant on their Pro Cycling series to allow those of us with an interest in the sport but a little less ability to see if they can take a stage win, become King of the Mountains or even ride into Paris wearing the famous yellow jersey.
It’s fair to say that the Tour de France has seen a resurgence in interest over the last few years. Between the positives such as Bradley Wiggins’ heroics in 2012 and negatives like the Lance Armstrong scandal, the spotlight has been thrust upon the epic road race more than in recent memory. With this in mind I’ve donned some tight fitting lycra shorts, rubbed Vaseline into my inner thighs and reviewed Le Tour de France 2013 – 100th Edition.
OPM: Coming hot on the heels of the worst sports sim I’ve played on PS3, Tour De France 2012, Cyanide’s annual update to the world of virtual calf strain certainly can’t be accused of resting on its laurels or cashing in on a tried-and-tested formula. Because the existing formula was bobbins and, as a direct result, no one played it.
