The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Will Have 36 Different Endings, No Load Times, and More | Interview

OnlySP: After seeing a breathtaking 45 minute presentation for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt at E3 (of which you can expect a write-up soon), I was able to catch up with gameplay producer Marek Ziemak for a juicy interview about the game. Topics included load times, multiple endings, the game going multi-platform and the voice acting process, among others. Sharpen your swords as we dive in.

Those guys are crazy. This could turn out to be either one of the biggest RPG's or one of the most overhyped games ever. Judging by the latest trailer, I'm expecting the former at the moment. It really does look as good as they suggest it to be.

Wingsfan243967d ago

Have you played the first two? These guys know what they're doing, don't worry.

PraxxtorCruel3967d ago

I'm not playing 36 times to experience 36 endings. That is crazy. I wish there was an easier way of doing this!

NameRemoved00173967d ago

Buying it on PC because it will have mod support :D

elhebbo163967d ago

@PraxxtorCruel that is one of the most laziest excuse of not liking a game that I've ever heard.

Mr Tretton3967d ago

@Praxxtor, just watch the other 35 endings on the internet. :)

Buy this game on GOG.com so the developers gets 100 percent of the Profit from the game. Thats where i buy all my witcher games and i never forgave steam for censoring the first witcher. So im not sure what mature content will be in witcher 3 just to be sure buy it on Gog.com

The first two games are incredibly good, and they both have a lot of variety and replayability.

Just so people know, the bit about "36 endings" probably refers to 36 ending sequences, not 36 distinct endings. What I imagine they'll do is something similar to Fallout, where your actions with each city, each faction, and each major event is highlighted in the ending.

So (I'm just spitballing here) there might be six sections to the ending, and six different variables for each particular section.

Sovereign593967d ago

Here's hoping they can pull this off well and avoid pulling a Bioware. An actual quote from a developer at Bioware prior to the release of Mass Effect 3: "This story arc is coming to an end with this game. That means the endings can be a lot more different. At this point we’re taking into
account so many decisions that you’ve made as a player and reflecting a lot of that stuff. It’s not even in any way like the traditional game
endings, where you can say how many endings there are or whether you got ending A, B, or C.”
Even after the release of the extended cut, to this day there are really only 4 endings, none of them much more preferable than another.

Saksoy3967d ago

Cant wait for this game its going to be epic.

chcolatesnw3967d ago

lol they should delay the xbox one version release date until xbox one officially releases in poland. that should teach ms that murica =\= world

ElementX3967d ago

How do you know the One won't be released in Poland by the current release date?

ElementX3967d ago

I mean the release date of the game, not the console. The game is coming out sometime next year and Poland may have the One by that time.

Pintheshadows3967d ago

It has been confirmed that the One will not have released in Poland by the time The Witcher 3 is out.

xtremexx3967d ago

36 different endings? guess im gonna have to do 36 different playthroughs (not like i wasnt going to anyway).

no load times? how the f**k is that gonna happen? if it actually works, that would be amazing.

Wingsfan243967d ago

Takes 50 hours just to complete the main quest, so 50x36=1800 hours of gameplay if you want each ending lol. Just don't be surprised if someone tells you, you have no life. Hopefully the plat trophy doesn't need all 36 endings, I'd feel damn sorry for the poor sap who goes after that haha.

ElementX3967d ago

Just save your game a lot and reload different parts where you make critical decisions and continue from there. Actually I never play through games multiple times, I'll sometimes start a second play through but I always end up buying something new to play.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave21d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan21d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name45d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno45d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno45d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure45d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
