Crytek Confirms Monster Hunter Online In The West

Speculation has been rife since the discovery of a Chinese website for a possible addition to the MMO world for Monster Hunter Online. An announcement earlier today sees a brand new collaboration between Tencent Games and Capcom that will bring the world of Monster Hunter Online to an international audience. Read all the rumors. Was SO excited to see it confirmed for the West so quickly! :D

Needs to be confirmed for PS4.

Btw, this is that outsourcing thing Capcom was talking about. Having these guys make a Monster Hunter game rather than doing it themselves is costly.

Anyway, back to PS4 porting, I want it and it's already confirmed as free to play. Doesn't look very MMO like from the videos though, very few characters shown in single locations and all the battles look one-on-one, or four-on-one, they need bigger enemies for larger groups can tackle. Even groups of enemies, so far it's looking like all the other monster hunter games, just with better visuals. It needs to be more than just open world to call itself an MMO.

If it's like Frontier, then hunters will meet in the guild hall and launch quest in a group of up to 4 people.

Too many hunters in one area will be overpowered especially if they'll retain the status ailments from previous games. It's bad enough that 3 gunners can fully paralyze a Fatalis and a hammer guy wails on him... just imagine more than 4 people. I'd be the guy trying to TK with LBB+.

The story is misleading as it doesn't mention the source.

The announcement does not come from Tencent or capcom.

It's from a press release by Crytek and The quote comes from CryEengine Director of Business Development Areil Cai, as they announced that the game is made with Cryengine. While it mentions worldwide, it's not a 100% confirmation of a worldwide release, so it should be labeled a rumor.
CaptainCamper  +   465d ago
Your logic is flawed. It's an official press release. 90% of emails regarding games come from a PR department, should they also all be labeled as a rumor? This is from an official source.

I have changed the title to reflect the source more obviously. But I still disagree that this is a rumor when it's from an official source closely related to the games development.

maybe cause it is coming out on next gen consoles as well? The fact the game uses cryengine makes it seem the obvious thing to do. Even if they are just ports, but they wont be due to the Cryengine.

Press release: Crytek’s groundbreaking CryENGINE® technology is being used to create Monster Hunter Online; a major new collaboration between Tencent Games and Capcom that will see the popular Monster Hunter series released internationally on Windows platforms for the first time.

As a PC-exclusive installment in the hit Monster Hunter franchise, Monster Hunter Online will give millions of new players the chance to experience the Japanese phenomenon. The MMORPG will contain Monster Hunter’s trademark blend of vast environments, awe-inspiring fantasy creatures and in-depth customization options.

“The Monster Hunter games are known for immersing players in breathtaking worlds where great gameplay and spectacular sights go hand in hand,” said Areil Cai, Director of Business Development - CryENGINE. “CryENGINE 3 is the perfect fit for the series, and will ensure Tencent Games and Capcom are well equipped to make Monster Hunter Online the groundbreaking MMORPG experience fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating.”

As well as being used in the creation of Monster Hunter Online, Tencent Games announced this week that Crytek’s CryENGINE 3 would also be utilized for the development of Legend of Yulong Platinum Edition – a new version of a popular Chinese MMORPG that will offer players an enhanced, more realistic visual experience. With long-standing experience of the global engine business and an enthusiastic gaming community of millions to serve, Tencent’s continued reliance on CryENGINE for high profile new projects is testament to the growing reputation of Crytek’s proprietary development software.

With over 20 million sales to date, Capcom’s Monster Hunter series enjoys huge popularity in Japan and boasts a growing army of followers around the globe. Monster Hunter Online will be developed for the international market by Tencent Games and Capcom, and marks an exciting new era for a series that has enjoyed critical praise to match its popularity with players.
----------------------------- ----------

Definition of internationally: Of, relating to, or involving two or more nations.

The press release does not say it will be released 'Worldwide' or 'In The West', it states that it will be released internationally (in 2 or more nations) this includes China and Japan. I would take the announcement with a pince of salt until they officially confirm it for the West. So far Capcom has not mentioned the game on any of their websites outside of Japan and China.

Please read what I said carefully. According to your logic ONLY emails from developers and publishers are 100% legitimate.

However, most companies use PR groups to do their marketing so by your definition they would also be a rumor as they're not involved in development whatsoever.

The quote is in the article, as is its source. It's obvious this is purely because you're upset you didn't post it first. Then you attack my abilities to cover games on top of that?

Unedited press release:

Now, let's just hope it's not f2p. I think that would pretty much ruin the whole idea of monster hunter.

Oh, and put it on consoles.

"Oh, and put it on consoles."

this^

MH3U is great on the WiiU but its still just a port of a handheld game. I would love Capcom to do a fully blown console version of a Monster Hunter game. Oh and no trolling by making a next gen monster hunter and not releasing it outside of Japan either, I'm serious Capcom!

oh and free to play gaming can just f*** *** now

I don't know. If they go the PSO2 style of F2P (where they use ads during loading times and a cosmetic cash shop without real game benefits) then I'm all in for this.
C-Thunder  +   463d ago
I like that idea, but what cosmetic changes do you suppose? Since monster hunters armors are provided by making them from the monster parts...

From what I have heard, Nintendo has got the exclusive rights for Monster Hunter on consoles for the next two years (2013-2015). Did they out bid Sony?

Wouldn't bother me if it were only on WiiU, already bought one for MH3U. Don't see why it couldn't, mmo's aren't exactly known to be taxing on PC.

Dang
It's beginning to make a lot of sense putting money towards a gaming PC.
pcftw!!

The japanese devs are starting to show love to pc!! This will only increase with new consoles being like pc!

Dark souls 2 leads on pc!! And the devs are japanese! O_o

And it's not even a next gen game.

This is great news though hope they don't fudge it up!

Don't need a console for this game anymore.

Also If it's a true pc mmo then the controls will be better. Not limited to a few buttons.

Monster Hunter 1080p, 60fps = a smooth good time.

Don't care. The gameplay of Monster Hunter is too sluggish. Soul Sacrifice is much better. Too little, too late.

Don't get your hopes up. The press release says "worldwide". How many times have you heard a company say something is coming "worldwide" but then it skips out on select regions? I wouldn't hold my breath. Here's to hoping it hits Wii U too, the audience is there after all and it supports Cry Engine 3. Crytek even said some Cry Engine 3 games are being made for Wii U so hopefully this is one of them.
ps3_pwns  +   465d ago
woot no need to get the 3ds or wii u monster hunter then sorry nintendo ill get the pc/ ps4 mmo one with way better graphics and probably even more monsters then ever. finally a good mmo square enix needs to take note.

Clearly someone is capitalizing on the ambiguity of "international."

This isn't a confirmation of a Western release by any means, and you should feel badly for propagating it for page views.
Agent_hitman  +   465d ago
Free to play would be a good idea for this game since majority of MMOs all over the globe are already F2P.
profgerbik  +   465d ago
http://n4g.com/news/1236287...

It is free to play, so it most likely will be here also but I question if it even will come over seas. I really don't think it will.

Everyone is getting super excited over this but they have to keep in mind Monster Hunter Frontier is already a Monster Hunter MMO, it was released on PC and Xbox 360 of all things.. Why the 360 when it isn't even popular in japan? Capcom always says they don't put their games on systems that don't sell well? Bullshit..

Anyway MHF is subscription based also and it still hasn't left Japan on both PC and 360. I honestly don't think this will make it too far outside of China but I guess we will see.

It being developed by Chinese developers also worries me even more, there are a lot of good Asian MMO's that never come here. This seems like it would be one of them.

As far as international goes it might be places like Korea, China and Japan.. like most the awesome Asian MMO's are.

That is another thing international does not mean a Western or European release at all. I have played many international MMO's that were never in NA or EU, but places like Brazil, Korean, Japan and China only for example.

So keep in mind just because they say international release that doesn't mean it will make it anywhere near here. I will wait until there is a confirmed NA and EU release planned before I get my hopes up, not just a international one.

OK,so for which platforms. I am guessing Wii U, but also PS4 or no? The reason I do not say 720 is Xbox gets little support over there. I know Wii U, will run the CryEngine.
