I know everything is a matter of preference but I think that any score below an 8 is pretty questionable. I've played all three games and even though the game has been watered down in the horror department from game to game but all the elements that made the franchise what it is is still there!

I agree completely. Any score less than 8 out of 10 for Dead Space 3 makes me wonder if the reviewer(s) played the game in it's entirety or if they've even played Dead Space 1 and 2. This game is fantastic. You can argue that the first game is still the eeriest (I still do call Dead Space 1 my favorite of the three) but this is definitely not the Gears inspired ordeal that the marketing led us to believe it would be. This is a true Dead Space game through and through. I even prefer this one to Dead Space 2, but again, the first game is still my favorite. This is probably mostly due to nostalgia and it's possible that it seems more eerie than the others only because it was new, I didn't know much about the enemies yet, everything was still mysterious and unknown and that definitely helped the creepiness.
Dead Space 3 has everything that made me fall in love with the first game: It's like someone set John Carpenter's The Thing in the Aliens universe. Now with much of Dead Space 3 taking place in an arctic climate it's even more The Thing-ish. And it's also got a little Aliens, Prometheus, and after a certain point plot-wise, it's got a bit of Mass Effect 1 thrown in. I'm really pleased with this game, so much more enjoyable than I expected it would be. I'm about halfway done with classic mode, looking forward to (and dreading a couple specific chapters) hardcore mode.
