Why Xenoblade is my game of the year for 2012

VB - I fell in love with Xenoblade in 2012. I’ll never forget its endless landscapes with towering mountains and vast oceans. Xenoblade just gave me so much beauty that I had to honor it as my game of the year.

I’ve played my share of Japanese role-playing games. Many of them had their own set of problems, such as bad voice-acting and goofy motion-capture animations. Xenoblade makes up for all those painful moments with tons of amusing side quests to complete for other villagers. I wanted to play through every single one of them just to build social bonds with these characters. (Wii, Xenoblade Chronicles)

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Xenoblade, it's one of the best JRPG's Iv played in years.

Original story, interesting and likeable characters, great plot twists, beautiful and unique environments, hours of side quests and exploration, other devs should take note because this is how you craft a true epic.

I just started getting back into JRPG's. I love Persona 3 and 4, but is Xenoblade up there with those games? Or is it more of the same old tired classic style gameplay?

I haven't played Persona 3 or 4 sadly so I can't really compare.

The combat in Xenoblade is similar to FF-XI with the mix of realtime combat and special attacks, The party is made up of 3 characters that can be swaped in and out before battle like in most past FF games, you can't switch your playable characters during battle however that never really was an issue for me since Shulk kicks all the butts most the time anyway.

There's a ton of sidequests, notorious monsters, hidden items and equipment, a huge unique world to explore with some great areas, Satorl Marsh at night looks beautiful even with the Wii's graphics limits.

I would definitely recommend Xenoblade if you're a JRPG fan, it's one that really shouldn't be missed

I agree. Xenoblade was just amazing. Too bad it's on a system that no one takes seriously. This game got beat out by that half-assed mario wii-u game on the VGAs! This is a game people really need to play. It might probably end up like Xenogears though...a great game not a lot of people played.

Hopefully Nintendo and monolith soft doesn't see this as a blunder and continue trying to put out amazing RPGs like this.

it was a great game but being an American, i absolutely HATED the voice acting & put it in japanese instead.. (no offense guys) but the voices annoyed the hell out of me

Only a couple of the voices were annoying but still bearable. I thought most of the voice acting was really good. Open your mind and broaden your horizons.

The reason Xenoblade is my game of the year 2012 is simple, it's without a doubt the best game that came out last year.
