Top Tuesday: Top 3 reasons 2012 was important for gaming

Zaid from MWEB GameZone explains why 2012 was an exceptional year for gaming.

2012 is more than the year that gave us the conclusion to the tale of Commander Sheperd or where we revisited the story the Master Chief. 2012 is important to gaming for a few other reasons as well. (Culture, Industry, Kickstarter, The Walking Dead: Episode 1 "A New Day")

I certainly agree that the success of the Kickstarter process was important event for gaming in 2012. Even from a purely selfish point of view, its "kickstarted" a lot games that I am very excited to play like Shadowrun.

From an industry perspective its done some pretty big jobs like providing a launch platform for at least 1 new console entrant (OUYA), not to mention all the game titles.

I probably also would have added Steam's Greenlight to the list. I think that was also a very important step for gaming in 2012.

Crowdsourcing has indeed been a big shaker for getting games off the ground, but I'm in agreement as to how and when this will really shake up the bigwigs like Activision and EA for potentially reveiewing what games get published. There is definately room for all the things.

As long as we keep moving forward, which is likely. G-d bless capitalism :)
