How did Capcom ship 4.5 million ?

ChunkyLover534219d ago

Resident Evil is a highly anticipated title that comes from a great series. Even though the vocal minority seem to hate on the game, lots of people are enjoying the game. It'll probably sell quite well. I loved it, sure it wasn't scary, but RE games stopped being scary after the first one, you knew what was coming by then.

Not sure how a 15 year old franchise could continue down the same path it originally was on and be successful.

See I can agree with your point on the path the game was on. But the main problem is that Capcom decided it would move off the path that made it successful. The direction by all means is not bad, but for the genre that it pioneered Resident Evil is a shadow of its former self. Not bad, just in many of the fans view, misdirected.

you mean like metal gear solid, super Mario, the legend of Zelda and pokemon?

even some of those games managed to survive even more than 15 years, you know why? Because they never abandoned their fanbase for the latest trends and stayed true to their roots.

Mario changed, he went from 2D to 3D with Super Mario 64, and that might be one of his finest games.

He changed again with Mario Galaxy and that is one of the best reviewed games this generation.

Zelda has had MASSIVE changes throughout its history.

Metal Gear has had changes as well, it was originally on the NES and even the PS1 title was drastically different than MGS4, which abandoned stealth and went for a more action element.

I stand by my point. I love the game, I think its a top 5 RE game, you cant expect the same level of fear or gameplay in todays day and age.

Funny thing is, as a gamer for over 20 years I remember a time when gamers were just happy to play games, we didn't have all this whiney, crybaby BS.

Game on.

considering that they went with the "mass market appeal, uber hyped marketing" as opposed to "staying true to the original, pleasing fans" approach it is not really surprising this game could sell that much.

Well, shipping is no big deal, selling is. You can manufacture and ship as many as you want but it does not means they are sold. CAPCOM was expecting teh game to be a superhit and never expected the horrible reviews so they produced lots and lots of copies. Now let us see how many of those actually sell.

Well suppose someone's got to buy it for the rest of us to buy it second hand ? or are these slightly exaggerated predictions/ estimations ? Only Campcom knows...
