Someone’s Already Trying to Sell a Wii U on eBay. For $900.

Kotaku- Remember when the Wii launched? What were those things going for on the gray market, like $700 or something? Actually, yeah—Fahey did this analysis after the 2006 holidays and found the price, for a pre-order listing on eBay, spiked at $707, almost three times its MSRP. (That's not counting this jackhole, trying to sell one plus a PS3 for six grand. God, those were dumb days.)

I payed a little over $900 for my launch 60gb PS3 with 1 game and a 3 year bestbuy warranty.

Yeah, I already pre-ordered my personal one, but I'm gonna try to get at least one more to put on eBay for the holiday. I know there may be some that have an ethical issue with it, but if I don't do it, someone else will. It's a simple matter of supply and demand, and if people are willing to pay it to make Jr happy, them I'm willing to charge it. Hopefully it will pay for my Wii U.

I sold a Wii I camped out for overnight on Ebay for $1400. That was back in December of 2006, but by selling that, I was able to buy gifts for everyone on my list.

That's like nearly triple the original price lol wow, but I can't say that I am surprised. As long as people keep on buying launch consoles at ridiculous prices, then their will always be people ready to take advantage of those who are ready to splash the cash for a new console. We saw that with the PS3 and the original Wii when they first launched.

As a child was there ever a must have gift that you really wanted as a kid? Because of hoarding assholes with a low inventory of desired item/ low income families who try to pick up the item for their kid or family member then get the shame of not being able to provide that much desired item.

I know boohoo right? Some people are still about the spirit of Santa during Christmas and are stuck getting the kid a shitty knockoff or 2nd rate toy because of greed.

I couldn't care less if you wanna buy 20 of the consoles I just hope they made a boatload of them and you get stuck with the hassle of unassing them after the holidays.

There's nothing wrong or illegal about this, it's just kind of a crappy thing to do. if people want to make some extra cash, and they have people willing to pay it, so be it.

I agree with Look_At_This however. What you do is your own business. I'd rather Nintendo have enough supply to fulfill demand at retail so people don't have to pay inflated prices. It would likely serve Nintendo better to do so. If you can sell twice as many consoles without inflating demand, then you have a much bigger install base when MS/Sony come out with their next boxes, and that's something I think Nintendo will really need.

I would personally laugh if all this selling out is to increase hype and make it seem like it will be sold out come the holidays. There is market strategy in such a thing, and it served the Wii quite well. Sometime next week this will hit the mainstream media, and it'll suck the casuals in like every popular item every year at Christmas. Limited supply is more often than not manufactured by the companies, as they have pretty extensive market research to know how much they can sell.

I can't count how many people yesterday said they ran out to pre-order the system yesterday because stores were "running out" of allotment. I also wouldn't be surprised if in the next couple weeks you see these big chains suddenly have pre-orders available again.

What they do is fair. They stay up overnight in a line to get their hands on a launch console. If John couldn't get his hands on one then tough luck (since he wasn't willing or/nor willing to get there first), he's gonna have to wait another week (or two) before he can finally get a Wii U (first world problem, honestly).

Like you say, they're trying to increase the hype for the Wii U. Apple does the same trick by supplying lower than expected quantities for pre-order, have Applefans go nuts on getting one first, then meet the actual demanded supply to cash in. Nintendo WILL supply a greater amount of consoles to meet demand (that's how economics works anyway, Sega didn't realize this with the DC on Japan on launch and suffered potential sells).

When I pre-ordered mine I was asked if I wanted to get two so that I could sell the extra one. Annoying. I understand that under some circumstances this can be a good thing, but for the most part, I hate that crap. I don't ever again want to see any console being sold online for exorbitant prices by greedy people who buy extras.

this happens every time a new system comes out. wii, 360 and ps3 all had this last time around. And you are a jackass if you pay anything over retail. Because everybody knows that more of them will be shipping out. also it is a good idea to wait on buying new systems cause if there is going to be problems it will be with the earliest systems. plus if you have to have it that bad and didn't think to preorder it than some stores like Target, Walmart,ect. will be first come first serve so just go wait in line
