I'm glad that Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is on the list. It's a fantastic RPG.

Another good entry on this installment is Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

Ys Book 1&2 #100, Lunar:EB #99, and FF8 is #97??? Yet Mario RPG is #21? That's blasphemy! Mario RPG was an entry level RPG that was very light on content. It is highly overrated.

Anyone who played Ys Book 1&2 on the Turbo CD or Duo knows it was special for its time during the early 90s. It had an amazing CD quality soundtrack, and voice and animation narratives that was not possible on the other consoles like the SNES simply due to the limited cartridge storage. http://www.youtube.com/watc...

I feel ya on what you're saying with Ys Book 1&2. I'll always have a soft spot for that game and its story/soundtrack. Should defiately be placed higher.

But as far as RPGs go, it wasn't that great. You just walked at enemies until you leveled up and that was about it really.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not slating it at all but its appeal (to me at least) was the graphics style and CD quality soundtrack. I'm actually humming the track that plays when you go out into the first section of the game as I type this, thats how much of an impact the soundtrack made on me as a kid. :)

It was very simplistic. It was the overall feeling I got from playing the game and finishing it that made it special and a memorable experience for me.

I'm so glad Suikoden made in the top 50, ranking in number 44 by far one of favorite JRPG to this day and the first JRPG that I finish it.
Ohhh and Hey Konami, where's my SUIKODEN VI!

Relientk774241d ago

I want Suikoden II, except its ridiclously expensive on PSOne, and rare

KingofGambling4241d ago

I guess I'm very lucky because I bought it off from a friend for 30 bucks. Now on ebay its going for over 100. It was very limited back than because Konami wasn't sure it was getting popular or not. Let's hope Suikoden II would be in the PSN under classic.

Relientk774241d ago

^Yea I dont think that its on the PSN yet, but people want it I think

HiddenMission4241d ago

Yep Shining Force and Phantasy Star two of my favs made the list :)

Now is the Best Time to Get This Incredible RPG Bundle on Steam

If you are looking for an awesome RPG, look no further. Steam is offering a significant discount on its Fallout Franchise Bundle.

SimpleSlave1d 11h ago

"You can get all Fallout games in a bundle at a significant 20% discount on Steam. Individually, all these games add up to $244.91. With the discount, you can get them all for $195.91. That is $49 less than the original price. Quite a significant discount for such a popular franchise."

😊 😂 🤣 😐 - But why?

Just wait for a sale and get most if not all of it for a fraction of that price.

20% off...lol

Tacoboto1d 10h ago

The games were just on a real sale over the last week or two for the show promotion. Fallout 4 was $10, 3 was $5, NV was cheap as heck too.

So what the heck is this

Inverno1d 10h ago

The original games have been given out for free by Amazon for GOG and Epic, 76 is free now on Amazon if you have prime, Epic has also given out new Vegas for free and 4 has gone down to pretty cheap prices. 194 bucks is a total ripoff when you can get these games individually for less. Don't forget cd keys might sell em for a dollar less at times too. Come on man, us cheapskates won't touch anything near or above 100 lolz

isarai1d 10h ago

Bro that's a ridiculous ripoff are you kidding me? 🤣

If this is true, I hope it leads to Morrowind getting remade next.

-Foxtrot5d ago

I thought they’d go for Morrowind first to be honest but this is a welcoming surprise to tide us over before ES6

TheColbertinator5d ago

Well said. Exactly my thoughts too.

Tedakin5d ago

Unreal Engine isn't efficient for open world games, so I question the reliability of this story.

isarai5d ago

Yeah, 1st thing that came to my mind too, although i CAN see it being likely for ease if use, but it's not going to run very well if so

Tacoboto5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

I'd wonder if it would just be exploiting Unreal for graphics but the underlying engine/logic is still the original framework.

Like how we had the graphical remakes of Halo Anniversary, Tomb Raider I-III, and Demon's Souls.

Could also end up a disaster like the GTA Trilogy

mkis0074d ago

I have heard that too but even if it's modified isnt arkham knight UE?

Fragslayer4d ago

"remake will run both an Unreal Engine 5 project and the old Oblivion project. For instance, new graphics are rendered in the Unreal Engine 5 project, but most of the gameplay and physics are still done on the original Oblivion engine"

So with this logic it'll run just fine using UE5 tool sets on top of Gamebryo's engine or maybe even Creation Engine, who knows.

Hopefully modders can fix the aged combart in this game if this is true. Enemies leveling up with you broke and defeated the whole purpose of leveling up.

Fragslayer4d ago

Yeah it could use some tuning for sure hence the need for a Remake not a Remaster. I'm surprised it's even a conversation within them group which makes me skeptical it's Oblivion. I wouldn't say they shouldn't level up at all though maybe just a leave them a couple levels behind to appease the masses.
