Why Firaxis' XCOM Remake Had to Have Multiplayer, And Why You Shouldn't Worry

Eurogamer- Jake Solomon, the enthusiastic brains behind Firaxis' XCOM remake, knows some of you will be unhappy that the game has multiplayer. He saw the reaction to BioWare's announcement that Mass Effect 3 would have multiplayer - a first for the series - and is aware how opinion can, in the blink of an eye, sway from adoration to derision.

"You would expect people to be very excited," he tells me in the lobby of Firaxis' airy headquarters in Hunt Valley, Baltimore. "But sometimes people are like, it's a single-player game, why do they need to ruin it with multiplayer? Sometimes you'll hear that and you're kind of like, well..." Well, indeed.

Multiplayer can kill single player as they can purposely change the main game to suit the multiplayer aspect. This does probably mean however the Aliens won't be so OP any-more and be on more even terms as they have to be for multiplayer reasons. We won't know how much it's effected the game until release but lets hope not that much. It's like COD the first few games had great single player driven campaigns and now they are pure multiplayer and the single player is drab and doesn't compare to games like Gears (which does have multiplayer) and uncharted.

I'm not worried simply because they've waited until now to reveal it.

This game is about the single player experience, and it has been presented as such.

This multiplayer isn't the "me too" crap like most games nowadays. The shallow pointless kind that they shove down our throats to attract the kids.

This is an option for the fans. Not a shallow waste of budget that detracts from the campaign.

And yes, I got all of this simply because they haven't made a big deal out of the multiplayer. Lol ;)

He's one of those "if you respectfully disagree with me I'll pm you insults because I'm a miserable person, until you are forced to block me. Even then I won't quit, following your comments because I can't handle the fact that you calmly, politely shared the fact that you think red is better than blue. Because blue is clearly the best and any other opinion is a threat to my manhood" types.

Lol it's been a while since I've had to tolerate this on this website, so I guess I should consider that a good thing.

Take care haha.
