Sony Confirm The Last Guardian Is Still In Development

It was legitimate to question the status of the game, especially when the trademark expires. That's why sites like IGN went to Sony for clarification.

My first thought, however, was not that the game was cancelled, but that it just changed names. (Maybe to one of their new trademarks?) It seems crazy that this would be cancelled, because people really want this game. It'll definitely sell. There's no reason to cancel it.

Phew! We can't afford to let the likes of The Last Guardian get stuck in development hell. Games like ICO and SOC are works of art. Very rarely, if ever, have I ever cared for a virtual character as much as I did in Ico. I'll be a man and admit I shed a tear. If TLG can replicate that sense of emotion, we are in for a real treat.

I believe last guardian will launch in fall 2013 or maybe they will wait to launch it on ps4

PS4 Launch Title
I'm hoping for a PS4 launch title. Would be a very interesting launch title. lol Would up the visuals as well being on the next system.

I'm also hoping they wait to release Gran Turismo 6 as a PS4 launch title. If the PS4 is indeed coming out next Christmas (2013) I'd say that's what system GT6 would come out on.

Sony's first party will shine brightly at the PS4 lauch (hopefully next year).

I do realize that they probably will put them both on PS3 for fiscal reasons but I do wish they'd hold out until the PS4 for both of them.

i doubt the graphics difference be that big for next gen that most if not all games will be released on ps3 and ps4.

I still think sony will wait till 2014, they are in trouble money wise so launching a new system may not be the smartest thing. I say wait for wii-u and wait for xbox720 than make a console that's easy to develop for and that improves on xbox720 and wii-u tech wise even if only by 10% that's still improvement

GT6 has been in development for a good time so i think a fall 2013 release date seems real. I wouldn't be surprised if sony actually announces it at gamescom

I find it quite amusing people have been anticapating this game since the launch of the PS3. This is why you shouldn't follow any game that doesn't have a release that is less then 6 months away.

Lol, hey man. This is a title that's being worked on by people from both Japan Studios and Sony Santa Monica. Think of a game where it combines artistic designs and visuals of Shadow of the Colossus, and the amazing detail and epic scale of God of War. Crying over this game is definitely justifiable haha.

I know. How can people think Sony will cancel this? It's Team Ico, it's Japan Studio, its Santa Monica. It's going to be one of this gen's most unique and stunningly affecting games and Sony knows the money they've already sunk into it shouldn't go to waste.

To be honest, I would've cancelled the game, if I were in charge. It must have cost a lot to have one year in production; more than three years would be unacceptable under my watch. I'm sure there was a year or so, give or take, where nothing was done. But I just saying realistically, with the way the video game industry is doing, I'm surprised they didn't cancel. Good for them for sticking to it.

That said, I thought both of you would've been used to this stuff happening on N4G. Didn't we go through this with the Final Fantasy Verses camp?

I completely agree that it would be a waste. If we were talking from a gamer/fan's point of view (which we are), we would be excited that TLG is still in the making. But from a production house (Sony or Santa Monica?) who ever is shelling out the money to have this game made, I'd be very pissed that 6 years has gone by, and it's still not released. Again, I'm also aware that sometimes a game goes in hiatus or given to another company like what Duke Nukem went through.

Just saying is very rare for this to happen to a game, is all. Still excited for this game. lol

I think it would be fair at this point to judge the game when it has confirmed to be either released or cancelled. Anything in between is up to the developers/publishers decision, the fact SONY still greenlights the project it means that it has immense potential.

In this day and age where unique game experiences is rare, moreso gaining less and less support, it's sad that you would justify ways to make them even more scarce. Not that I am attacking you any way, it's just your disposition to deal with situations like this is just going to hurt the game industry even more.

Its pretty obvious that sony is killing themselves and people have just been discussing it. I have not seen one article that says they hope sony dies. As a gamer i want sony to stick around as competition keeps these big corps honest. Im sure there are fanboyz on both sides that want to see another fail but sony has brought this on thsmselves and people in the media report whats halpening and righ now for four years straight sony has not made A dime in profit. It's more than that though. Most of these articles are not straight up talking about Sony incurring losses. They are written up to imply that Sony is a failure. Every company is going to have it's ups and downs, but people make it sound like this is the end of Sony.

Microsoft reported it's first losses ever as a company which I think is more significant story, but I don't see multiple stories about it.

People should be more worried about it maybe not being the same game they had originally set out to make with the creator of Ico and SOTC, Fumita Ueda, having been departed and major development problems persisting. That trailer could be a far cry from the path they're taking now.

Kojima was still keeping an eye on Metal Gear Rising and look what happened.

The problem they're having is with coding. That contract basis is freelance, which means he's most likely helping on a very hands off way. Something MAJOR had to be wrong for someone to just leave their creation and largely put it in someone elses hands. Along with the Executive Producer leaving. Something went wrong there...
