Last generation, Nintendo's Wii went up against serious criticism concerning its capabilities, its interface, and its appeal - and then went on to become one of the most successful platforms of all time. Now Wii U faces a number of similar questions. With development costs rising sharply with each big technological leap, will Nintendo's philosophy of providing an inexpensive gateway to accessible quality content pave the way to success yet again?
TNS: Based on its most recent ESG data, Nintendo boasts a remarkably low staff turnover rate of just 1.9%, with virtually no reported layoffs.
Well it doesn’t surprise me. As much money as they make and how they value their employees. It’s a great company in that regard.
Well, when your games remain full price many years after release.
And you make profit off of outdated hardware.
I would be shocked if they couldn't afford to retain their staff.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has set a new record by selling over 3 million units within 24 hours, tripling the PlayStation 4’s previous launch day sales.
Its crazy that it's both the highest selling console on day 1 and people can walk into a store and buy it with no pre order
Unlike the Switch 2 , the Playstation 4 was not sold on the same day in most regions.
Company skipped last year's event.
Not surprising at all.
I mean, they´ll be releasing a new console in a few weeks.
A positive article on N4g about the Wii U with next to no buzz. How typical.
Very good article, and I'm not just saying that because of the title. The author gave great insight into just how much development costs affects devs. I had no idea that 120 studios have closed down since 2006. Crazy.
"Be Behind", Stings...
(Sorry, too much LoZ:SS)
This is a Great article!
Thank you Emily Rogers & Alex Plant!
This is what I have been saying to the Power-Pushing/Huffing Trolls, just not as eloquently and exhaustively.
Everyone on "N4G" should read this. Not because it is positive towardS Nintendo, but because it is a good WARNING for the Home Console INDUSTRY.
"Bee seeing you." "Heh heh heh."
I just want another LoZ:SS (gameplay), HD or not.
Very good article that was well thought out and very detailed. Deff worth the time to read it fully and see where the industry is headed !
From what I have read on-line, game ports for Wii U will have no better graphics than Xbox 360/PS3 games. However, games coded specifically for the Wii U will be much better. This says to me that the development cost for the Wii U will be more expensive than current game development and probably not far off the next Xbox/PS4 development costs.
