GI:Mixing classical puzzle elements with other genres has resulted in some of my favorite games of the last decade. Dungeon Hearts attempts to give its match-three gameplay context with a Final Fantasy-like battle framework, but fails to meld the two in a meaningful way. Far more damning, however, is the weakness of the core gem-matching mechanic itself.
The Backlog's Erin reviews this promising but ultimately disappointing game.
The latest Name Your Own Price Bundle is now live. For any price over $1.00, gamers can get Dungeon Hearts and Little Things Forever -- but beating the average price will get buyers an additional four games: Waveform, Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time, Royal Envoy 2 and Fishdom.
From the review: "Dungeon Hearts is a perfectly fun puzzle mash-up that is marred by inconsistent difficulty and lack of a narrative. While the actual combat is fun, it's a shame that players are forced to start over every time the game ends. Even with its problems, there are enough good ideas here to make it worth the low retail price."
