Solving a Wii mystery: The fate of the awesome toy WeeWaa

When Zoink Games debuted its trailer for WeeWaa in 2009, eyes lit up. This was the next great kids’ game even adults would want to play.

In Justice’s song “D.A.N.C.E.,” which played over the video, Zoink found the perfect tagline: “The way you move is a mystery.” The words nailed what WeeWaa was about: The magic of transforming an ordinary Wiimote into a stuffed toy, which kids could hold and move around to control a matching onscreen avatar.

Anything named WeeWaa has got to be great.

What is that thing doing to the Wiimote?

You're supposed to put the Wiimote into the toy through its mouth ... but that's a good question. There are many uses for the Wiimote, apparently.

WiiWaa has the plushiest peripheral ever

"At first, this trailer for WiiWaa had Joystiq quite skeptical. Seeing a Wii Remote shoved down the throat of an adorable plush doll clued us in. Certainly this had to be another fake Wii game, a la Mass: We Pray!

However, it didn't take long for this trailer to work its magic on our cold, Scrooge-like hearts. Translating playtime with a real-world doll for a video game is rather brilliant, transforming an inanimate toy into something much more engaging and interactive. We can already imagine parents fighting each other at Toys 'R' Us for a WiiWaa plush/game combo set at Christmas next year -- provided the game is, y'know, real."
