Spencer: Exclusives Are Critical To Platform Success, More Coming On Xbox One, Support For KI & More

Microsoft's Studios Boss Phil Spencer has just shared some interesting information via Twitter on Killer Instinct, whether or not Xbox One will get more exclusives like Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Support for Killer Instinct, E3 2014 and many more.

lelo4117d ago

The X1 with the higher price, more then ever is going to need exclusives.

Abash4117d ago (Edited 4117d ago )

If exclusives are so important to MS, why have we received so little updates from all the ones announced nearly a year ago? Weren't we suppose to get "15 exclusives in the first 12 months" of the Xbox One?

4logpc4117d ago

Forza 5
Killer Instinct
Ryse
Dead Rising 3
Crimison Dragon
Peggle 2
PVZ garden warfare
Titanfall
POwerstar Golf

I would say they are on track for 15 in the first 12 months.

DawnOfDon4117d ago

@4logpc

and indies so yea 15 will be hit.

Didn't Sony say they had 30?

ThePope4117d ago

That's what E3 is for. Every year the studios go on virtual radio silence until June.

SaffronCurse4117d ago

Dead Rising3-Paid
Peggle2-Paid
PVZ-Paid
Titanfall-Paid

So you have 4 games on that list that are likely to go onto other consoles in the near future.

Death4117d ago

When did it become a bad thing to have third party exclusives? Having solid first and third party exclusives is actually pretty nice. Throw in third party multiplatform support and it sounds like a great combination.

DawnOfDon4117d ago

@Curse

only one that will got to the PS4 is Titanfall

BlackTar1874117d ago

Peggle 2 won't come to ps4?

Or PVZ?

Talking to Dawn

Unless you have a typo and meant the only one the Won't go to ps4 is Titanfall. Then i agree

4117d ago
RiPPn4117d ago

@4logpc

Crimson Dragon
Dead Rising 3
Forza 5
Killer Instinct
Powerstar Golf
Ryse

Not exclusive:

Halo Spartan Assault (also on the PC, 360, and Windows Phone and Tablets)

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood (timed: also on 360 and PC will be released next month)

Peggle 2 (timed: xbox on 360 in May and other platforms at a later date)

PVZ garden warfare (timed: also on 360 and other platforms at a later date)

Titanfall (also on PC and will be on 360 next week)

Odd that Microsoft has somehow convinced some people the bone is such an exclusives power house with so little exclusive content.

Dannyh4117d ago

Max the brother hood, lococycle,Kinect sport rivals in a week

Blaze9294117d ago

@Abash

how can someone with so many bubbles be so, wrong?

BABYLEG4117d ago (Edited 4117d ago )

Lol @ Sony fanboys saying Ms has no exclusives

lol @ Sony fanboys thinking Indies are triple a titles now

I find it funny people call MS exclusive games, not exclusives. I find it funny how people get satisfaction in saying "max is coming on PC in a week so hah, its not exclusive"

get a life

TheRedButterfly4117d ago (Edited 4117d ago )

Dude, they're already at 9 (7 if you exclude timed exclusives(6 if you also exclude Titanfall)) and the console has only been out for 1/3rd of the 12 month window… Shut your hole. E3 ring a bell? How about TGS?

- _ - Seriously bro, the Xbox One has been out for 4 months as of Saturday. You've got another 8 months before you can bitch about a "lack of exclusives" or whatever.

badz1494117d ago

it's even funnier that people forget to mention Fighter Within. what was it then? a forgotten turd?

I want to see some Sunset Overdrive gameplay. Pretty much banking on it. Also would love to see a demo of the Quantum Break destruction engine. Crackdown would be nice, though I doubt we'll see it as soon as E3. Forza Horizons 2 seems likely. Desperately want to see some Halo 5 gameplay, preferably multiplayer. Also hoping to see Class 4 from Undead Labs, though I'm doubtful.

Then, some newly announced exclusives would be nice.

As far as multiplats, I want to see Battlefront, The Division, Witcher 3, and a whole crapload of Destiny, including the competitive multiplayer. Though Bungie has a tendency to slow-drip information about their games right up until release. I want to see the new COD, and I want to see a revival of Skate, SSX, Fight Night, next-gen NHL game (get busy, EA...). MOST OF ALL! I want Ubisoft to re-release Ranbow Six 3 for next gen consoles, since it seems like they will be sitting on Patriots for the next 20 years. Would rather have R63 than another iteration in the series. Other things I'm excited for from UBI: Splinter Cell, F2P Ghost Recon for next-gen consoles, Farcry. (get busy UBI...)

If Planetside 2 hasn't released by then, I want a release date. Been waiting long enough. Tick tock... Also would really like to see Sony announce a lot more in the realm of competitive-multiplayer AAA retail exclusives. A good long look at H-hour would be a good start. Was looking a little janky last time we got to see it. Also, eagerly awaiting Cell Damage =D

A LOT to look forward to. Plus, obviously, announcements that it's impossible to accurately speculate on.

Ausbo4117d ago

Amen brother. I agree with everything you just said.

shivvy244117d ago

Dude if sunset overdrive turns out good, im gonna get an x1 !

gamer78044117d ago

Actually you can get an xb1 for 450 that comes with a 60$ game

UNIFIEDONE4117d ago

At that price no reason not to get it! Titanfall is addicting....

nerdman674117d ago

That particular deal is a steal

elsuperamigo4117d ago

We.know.from past experiences (360) which platform have the exclusives the.xbone will be.the.same old story.from the.360 first 2-3 years of exclusives then abandoning the.console, so we can tell who.will win.on the exclusives side again

DoubleM704117d ago

Your going to be sadly mistaken. Phil already stated they are going to follow the blue Print Sony laid out with First Party exclusives. Just remember Sony is the one that is cutting the fat. Lead designers and Employees getting fired.

Dannyh4117d ago

So if people don't count exclusives because a game is on Xbox 360 that means ps4 has not one single exclusive because you can play every game on vita

mkis0074117d ago

I see what you were trying to do, but you still need it on ps4 to play it on the vita.

cellur1114117d ago

This is the stupidest thing ive heard all day.

Underworld4117d ago

No, you still need a PS4 to play them on your Vita. They're not released on Vita, you can just play them on it. There's a difference.

Dannyh4117d ago

Ya I get what your saying. To me excusive means tied to the brand not the system.

badz1494117d ago

LOL suddenly the 360 can remote play with the Xbone now?

Automatic794117d ago

I am excited to see more on Xbox One titles, specifically Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, D4, Below and Halo 5.

Third Party titles I want to see are Batman Arkham knight, The Evil Within, Alien Isolation, Destiny and Evolve.

Note: Can't wait to see what MS has in store for 2015.

Illusive_Man4117d ago

Xbox One is currently $10 cheaper than a comparable PS4 plus Infamous. Walmart still has them for $450.

aceitman4117d ago

my friend works at walmart , he was told the price will stay that way until they lower the large stock that they have because its not selling like they wanted to ( and that's what his boss straight up told him . so it all depends on how fast or slow they sell that the price will stay that way.

Back-to-Back4117d ago

Exclusives Are Critical To Platform Success

-Yet 360 had one the smallest exclusive library of games when compared to Sony and Nintendo.

otherZinc4117d ago

@Phil,

I'm looking forward to:

Halo 5:Nov. 2014
Gears Of War: Next
Fable:Next
Forza Horizon 2: 2014
Quantum Break: 2014
Sunset Overdrive: 2014
Halo 2: Anniversary
Kinect Sports Rivals
Kinectimals 3 (daughters request)

Honorable Mention:
Kameo 2
Brute Force 2
Perfect Dark 2

mochachino4117d ago

I hope MS announces more exclusives. Out of all the ones announced so far, only Quantum Break, Titanfall, and Halo 5 interest me.

christocolus4117d ago (Edited 4117d ago )

Its great to have Spencer on board. This guy knows what fans want..he is honest and passionate about his job too. if they have to move stuff into day2 and day3 then i have to wonder how many announcements will be made?.

I remember reading this tweet yesterday.. he also talked about gamers getting their hands on the games at the show floor. So im guessing sunset overdrive , QB and some other ips which havent been announced might be playable at E3. Its great to see MS investing heavily into new ips and sequels...im so glad Don is gone.

This might be the best E3 ever....

-Foxtrot4117d ago (Edited 4117d ago )

Oh come on....he's just telling us what we want to hear, he's been in PR hydrive ever since the Xbox One released.

So saying that he's "honest" and "passionate" about his job is a little far.

Where was this Spencer before the Xbox One reveal, he hardly said anything....you know when the Xbox 360 had like nothing coming out for it except Gears, Halo, Forza, Fable, Kinect, Kinect and more Kinect. If he was always like this fine, but he wasn't, he's doing this because he wants more people to buy an Xbox One....it's all PR stuff.

lets_go_gunners4117d ago

Don Matrick was the Xbox lead at the time. Phil was only in charge of finding devs for xbox one back then. He is now the Microsoft Studios head hence why he is now communicating more.

Gazondaily4117d ago

Wait till E3. Then we'll see if he's chatting nonsense or backing up his words.

AngelicIceDiamond4117d ago (Edited 4117d ago )

@Fox Ok its natural for you to make that sorta comment considering you don't have trust for MS.

Now.

You say its all PR fluff or whatever, which is, yeah, it is.

Tell me what happened last year when MS said they'll show nothing but games at E3?

Don Mattrick and his team had everything set up. Kinect, Halo Forza, every year. Skittles all that was him.

Now that hes gone that means all those Investor kiss up MS employees will hardly be at the event so they can focus on games.

Wanna know how I know that?

"Yes, I think you'll see very few execs," Spencer said when asked if this year's presentation will be focused on games.

Now MS needs more devs focused employees on stage than execs like they did before Don and his team came in.

http://www.gamespot.com/art...

The moral of the story is If MS wants to focus on something they will.

If MS says they wanna focus on on TV, they'll focus on Tv. (MS event before E3)

If MS says they wanna focus on Kinect, they'll focus on Kinect. (E3 2010, 11, and 12)

If MS says they wanna focus on media then they'll focus on media. 2010, 11, 12. MS event 2013)

If they say they wanna focus on games, then guess what? They'll focus on games. (E3 2005, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 2013

See the pattern? Lets hope they stay on games.

maniacmayhem4117d ago

@Fox

Wow, I seriously can't believe how naïve and bitter you are on everything you post.

At least this guy is answering people's concerns and questions. What else do you expect him to say when asked these types of questions?

He could be a dick and not at all address any concerns his user base or fans of the Xbox One system have. But no, him and other high execs do take the time to at least assure people that there will be some great things coming up for this year's E3.

Were you this spiteful towards him when he was at Sony? I bet you weren't.

No_Limit4117d ago (Edited 4117d ago )

Good going christ! I don't get why you only have 3 bubbles since you only post on XB related articles and all your comments are well thought out with zero attack on other platforms. You got downvotes by pathetic gamers for feeling hopeful about good games coming out next year. Imagine how small your brain must be to downvote someone excited for future gaming joy? It is pretty neat to see people's world view blow up in front of them as they realize Microsoft has put themselves in a driver's seat that Sony hasn't been able to touch all generation.... What's even more pathetic is the same people downvoting you are the same people wishlisting Microsoft games on their ps5s 😂

“Imagine how small your brain must be to downvote someone excited for future gaming joy?”

RaidenBlack19d ago

NGL, next year might be one of the best years in gaming ... starting off with RE9 and GTA VI ...
and then all the good games that's been cooking
Pragmata, Sands of Time, Saros, Gears E-Day, 007 First Light, Blood of Dawnwalker,
Mortal Shell II, Onimusha, Marvel1943: Rise of Hydra
current-gen only Infinity Ward's CoD, Duskbloods
+ My guess: Wolverine, Exodus, Mudang, Crimson Desert, Clockwork etc ...
~ seems like it might get too stacked

1Victor19d ago

@rokos:”Hopefully “
I downvoted you not for been hopeful but because I have seen the same “NEXT YEAR WILL BE SPECIAL “ comment for the last 10+ and hasn’t seen anything special from Microsoft.
I hope next year will be the one that everyone been waiting for since the last 3 years of the Xbox 360, it have to be after over $80 billions spent on acquisitions.

Lightning7719d ago

So the new excuse is they don't count because it's from the ABK now huh. I guess all those 3rd party games count even less because they don't own them. According to your always crappy logic.

OtterX19d ago

Indiana Jones
South of midnight
Avowed
Flight simulator
Hell Blade 2
Minecraft update
Gears of war reloaded
Indian Jones:expansion
Gears E day
Clockwork revolution
Fable
Doom the dark ages
The outer worlds 2
Grounded 2
Call of duty

OtterX19d ago

How many of those titles were just buyouts of companies that were going about making their games anyways? *Throws cash - "Oh look what we made!"

dveio19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

This list, that's been posted again, and again, and again in every single topic like this, contains almost nothing, literally almost nothing from Microsoft's own creational thoughtprocess.

It's a bunch of former 3rd party IPs.

Now even slowly returning to Playstation in some cases like Indiana, Hellblade, probably Starfield soon too, after they were made exclusively to Xbox on purpose.

Due to Microsoft's lack for own IP material except Halo & Forza. Which, the lack of, was the sole reason for all of it to happen in the first place anyway. Please don't pretend it wasn't.

And just look at all the games that come from Obsidian alone.

You really think Obsidian wasn't already working on Avowed and South of Midnight even without Microsoft buying Zenimax?

Microsoft delivered nothing but cheques.

OtterX19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

@dveio THIS. Lol, this dude thinks Call of Duty wouldn't exist without Microsoft! smh 😂

neutralgamer199219d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Common narrative I see often — that Microsoft shouldn’t get credit for the games its studios release because they “just bought them.” But this viewpoint ignores key context and sets a double standard that other platform holders aren’t held to

No one is saying these games wouldn't exist at all without Microsoft. But let’s not pretend that having a trillion-dollar company backing a studio doesn’t make a massive difference. Obsidian never had AAA funding before the Xbox acquisition. Pillars of Eternity was crowdfunded, and their resources were always stretched thin. Now they’re working on Avowed, with proper support behind it.

Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was made by around 20 people, using borrowed equipment and doing mocap in a boardroom. It was a passion project held together by tape and willpower. Today, Hellblade II exists because they were given resources, time, and freedom — something many developers don’t get unless they’re owned by a company that believes in their vision.

ZeniMax (Bethesda’s parent company) was in real financial trouble before the Microsoft acquisition. Reports and insider accounts have pointed out how much they needed a cash infusion. And while some people want to write off Xbox’s ownership of Bethesda titles, they forget the alternative could have meant layoffs or even closures.

The same goes for Activision Blizzard. Would you really prefer the company to stay under Bobby Kotick, after all the documented workplace misconduct and toxic leadership issues? Say what you want about Microsoft, but their acquisition brought accountability and change to a company that desperately needed it.

At the same time, Xbox gets hated on for doing what every major company does. Sony bought Housemarque, Bluepoint, Insomniac — but no one says Spider-Man 2 “doesn’t count” because of that. Why does Xbox get treated differently for acquiring struggling or undervalued developers and giving them a chance to thrive?

And the idea that Xbox locks games away is outdated. They're pushing cross-platform releases, cloud gaming, Game Pass, and backward compatibility more than any other platform holder. They're not forcing all studios into live service. If anything, their upcoming lineup is less GAAS-heavy and more focused on narrative and creativity — Avowed, South of Midnight, Clockwork Revolution, Fable, Perfect Dark, Towerborne, and others show real variety.

Whether people like it or not, Xbox is now the biggest publisher in the industry and owns the most gaming IPs. But what matters more is how they treat their studios. Most of these teams were previously stuck making AA games with limited scope — now they’re getting the tools and support to aim higher.

So when people say “Microsoft didn’t make those games,” they’re missing the point. It’s not about who started the studio — it’s about who enabled them to do their best work. You don’t have to love Xbox to admit they’ve helped a lot of developers and are taking a player-first approach.

Instead of writing off everything they do, maybe try recognizing the good they’re doing for both devs and gamers. At the end of the day, we should want more studios to succeed — no matter who owns them

BeHunted19d ago

I'm surprised Clockwork Revolution (BioShock meets Dishonored) isn't getting more media attention. The game looks interesting and reminds me of the old RPG games.

anast19d ago

The only good game on that list is Flight sim. The rest are either average or will be average. It's not a good look for MS.

TheEroica19d ago

My god.... Look how many comments are upset about microsoft's successes... 😂 This may be my new favorite thread. Not one gamer saying thanks for all the goodness coming their way, just bitter anger and downvoting the very games they themselves will purchase throughout 2026.... Sony really worked you guys over this generation.... Condolences.

DivineHand12519d ago

@neutralgamer1992 You said what needed to be said.

I have heard for years from older gamers that fanboys are the biggest issue with any fanbase. They will defend or gloss over negative news as long as the correct logo is on the box and they bash the competing platform no matter how much good they are trying to bring.

Right now their advocacy for PlayStation is elevating that platform so high that Sony no longer believes they need to do anything to satisfy their loyal fanbase like they did in the PS4 days.

I just hope most of them will eventually start advocating for themselves and encourage others to do the same. No one should blindly support one platform because these companies do not care about anything other than profit.

neutralgamer199219d ago

Hunted

And first proper game done by the studio with proper AAA budget and saying it will be released when ready

Anast

I believe we went through this before that you are objectively wrong. Meta critic, user reviews, game sales. In Playstation top 10 best selling games were 5 from Microsoft studios

Otter

No this dude is saying so many other studios wouldn't be thriving without MS money and people would be getting abused physically and mentally with Bobby kotick and his side kicks

Also maybe look up how the original founder of Bethesda and zenimax was kicked out of his own company by his best friend lawyer. So that was always a shady place and had been struggling financially before MS paid a premium of almost 7 billion

Eroica

I use to be a die hard Playstation fan and now I only have a Pc. I see how these fans are so toxic. They just can't handle any positive news regarding Xbox. When the best selling games on playstation are Xbox titles. Look at Forza horizon being best seller and that's years old game by MS. I guess ms don't deserve credit for that success too since they are the only company in gaming making acquisitions

Forget the fact Sony paid 3.6 billion for bungie and MS 6.9 for zenimax. Which investment has turned out better

Destiny and marathon with a lot of controversy

While zenimax output is nothing short of amazing compared to what bungie has released

crazyCoconuts19d ago

Yeah it's tricky. "Xbox" has morphed to mean different things to different people.
Console, now Windows, GamePass, and the cross platform games. There's a mix of attitudes towards all those things individually, and maybe an overarching attitude towards MS. But can't argue that the game companies MS recently bought continue to flourish, and GamePass PC has been a great value over the last year.

Phil Spencer 'Very Excited' About Xbox Handheld Plans For 2025

With ASUS seemingly teasing an Xbox handheld last week, there's been a lot of talk about the device in the days ever since, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer has also teased something to do with handhelds happening in 2025

purexbox.com
neutralgamer199285d ago

I really hope this isn't a windows based device even though coming from MS that's highly unlikely. SteamDeck is much much easier to use and offers a much better user experience than any other handheld device because it's all based on steam app. The Xbox handheld should be based on that because a Windows device with a 7-8 inch screen makes it's difficult to navigate

darthv7285d ago

Coming from Asus... its going to be an Xbox branded ROG Ally.

neutralgamer199285d ago

That's fine but hopefully it will be a Xbox app based instead of windows

VenomUK85d ago (Edited 85d ago )

When the casual market learn that there’s going to be an Xbox branded Asus handheld they will cancel their Nintendo Switch 2 preorders and get the Asus. No it won’t have exclusive games like Super Mario or Zelda or Metroid or Pilot Wings or Mario Kart or Animal Crossing or Donkey Kong or Pokémon or Super Smash Bros - but who cares as it will have access to the entire library of the Steam Store running on Windows. It will also have access to Game Pass with all the modern day classics like Avowed, Hellblade II and Grounded and Pentiment.

I think we all have to acknowledge that after all the criticism of Switch 2 on ResetEra it’s evidence that it will fail to sell and the Asus will outsell it. Dreamcast pushed Sega out of hardware, we all have to accept that the perfect storm of Switch 2 pricing, an Xbox-branded Asus and Phil Spencer and Aaron Greenberg’s persuasive promotion will likely kill off Switch 2 within a month. AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

FinalFantasyFanatic85d ago (Edited 85d ago )

@VenomUK,
I don't think that even has a remote chance of happening, Nintendo has so much brand loyalty, even with the backlash on their not so great pricing, I still think it's going to sell, Xbox doesn't have as much brand loyalty. Plus, if it's just Xbox branded ROG Ally or something similar, why not just choose a ROG ally or Steam Deck? They can both do everything that an Xbox branded handheld can. If Xbox is going to compete in the world of windows based handhelds, it has so much competition, it's going to struggle.

You're way too optimistic about the Xbox handheld and the demise of the Switch 2, I'm going to predict the opposite and say the Switch 2 will demolish the Xbox handheld in terms of sales/popularity.

S2Killinit85d ago

@VenomUK
Not sure if sarcasm or satire.

VenomUK84d ago

@S2Killinit Satire. I’m not going to hate on people for being excited for a new console. But what is happening in the Xbox community is something wicked, content creators are hyping up the Asus to their audience about how great this thing is, and how it will be more powerful than the Switch 2 and the Steam Store outweighs any advantage the Switch 2 has with its library of games. I don’t believe they believe it but they are grifting. By all means look forward to it but don’t sell it as a Switch 2 PS5 killer.

PanicMechanic85d ago

Steam Os is amazing. By far the best. Can’t imagine MS having an OS that can top it (CERTAINLY not windows)

crazyCoconuts85d ago

Well they're gonna try. They've already stated they've been working on it.

FinalFantasyFanatic85d ago

Windows as is, isn't a great experience for a handheld, they really need to make a dedicated handheld OS, unfortunately they've always been hellbent on making a single product for both PC/touch screen use.

I really can't imagine them making something that stands up to Steam OS, it just works so well.

RaidenBlack84d ago (Edited 84d ago )

This is not their in-house made Xbox handheld for next-gen, which is slated for release in 2027 alongside with the next Xbox console, which might run a version of their usual Xbox-ified OS optimized for the handheld.
This is just a brand collab to produce an Xbox branded updated Asus RoG Ally (Project Kennan), which as usual ships with Windows. Think of it as the 5th main competitor in handheld PC market, after Deck, Legion Go, Ally and MSi Claw (I know others exist, but these are the popular ones).
https://wccftech.com/xbox-h...
And RoG Ally didn't get an update this year like the Legion Go, so this Xbox-Asus one might be that?
Anyways, even with 2025 chip upgrade, the Legion Go underperforms compared to 2023 Ally and 2024 Ally X.

crazyCoconuts85d ago

It can't be anything but Windows if it has the Xbox brand on it. Outside of the politics (which would be a showstopper), SteamOS/Linux can't run GamePass natively due to the crazy protections implemented by the Windows Store.

neutralgamer199285d ago

I am not asking the Xbox handheld to run steam, I just wanted a dedicated Xbox app on the handheld that handles everything from playing games, downloading games, gamepass and most importantly all updates are done from that app. Just a better overall user experience

Having to download multiple different things on a Windows based device becomes really a chore in a smaller screen.

crazyCoconuts85d ago

Having the windows handheld auto launch the existing Xbox Windows app will accomplish everything you mentioned, and I'm sure that's what this will be.
Fact is that MS will need to add a lot into that app to incorporate all the system level controls Steam incorporated into their handheld UI.

OmegaSoldati85d ago

Steam Deck for the win! Switch too.

It'll be windows all leaks indicate this is a windows based device with a Xbox skin it will integrate other storefronts because at its core it's windows.

@venom there's is no chance that parents will be buying their kids a rog ally setting up steam and other storefronts over a Nintendo switch 2 at Christmas.

That's a mass amount of hopium there.

Portable PC's in total have barely cracked six million sold the switch 2 will continue to dominate the casual crowd all known about it and news of a switch successor has already started spreading in mainstream media

neutralgamer199284d ago

I think switch 2 will do well but dominate I think we need to wait and see. The prices of the console and games is much more than switch so don't expect parents in this inflation time to spend $600 on 2 games and a console. Since it's Nintendo it should sell but I think we are underpaying the importance of the inflated market

Every inch of this things is going to be a subservice.

Aloymetal85d ago

And an even bigger flop in the making, it's like they're just throwing crap at the wall and see what sticks or rather find another ''clever'' way to keep squeezing more money from the already miniscule and gullible fanbase. Smfh.

Reaper22_84d ago

Squeezing money. Isn't that what sony is doing with tbe ps5pro. And what about all those remakes and locking some ps4 games to a subscription.

ABizzel184d ago

At first I thought this was a huge mistake on MS part. But after thinking about this more and more, while I still don’t think it’s going to do anything beyond 10 - 20 million in sales, I think that’s exactly what MS and ASUS are expecting and both are okay with.

I assume this is more of Asus saying to MS, look we have ten/twenty million of these handheld PCs already in production and we’ve only been able to sell a couple millions, partner with us and let’s brand them as Xbox handhelds ASUS will do all the heavy lifting so we don’t take a loss on all these, and all MS has to do is market the platform and put your logo, the new Xbox OS/app you’ve been working on, and together we’ll helps each other out and push more GamePass subscriptions.

That make complete logical sense as to why this came about, because otherwise….. So technically it would be a win:win for both companies, or a win for MS and a reduction of loss of ASUS, even if they only sell 10m - 20m units.

As for the handheld itself honestly, it should be solid and most likely based on the Rog Ally 7, but hopefully with the Rog Ally X case as that has a much better port and I/O layout. Plus if the Xbox OS is wayyyyyyy lighter than Windows then it should be a a good piece of tech getting more performance than the Ally 7 Windows version for around $499.

But that’s where the next problem comes into play…..Price. It’s Switch 2 all over again. The slight different is outside of the potential of DLSS, this should be a slightly more powerful handheld, especially if they create their own dock, but that dock will likely be sold separately meaning now we’re looking at $550 or more, for what will essentially be a docked Xbox Series S and a slightly more powerful SteamDeck / Switch 2 in handheld mode.

peppeaccardo85d ago

The Irrelevant-Held will be able to connect to the XFLOP Series X

anast85d ago

ha! It might last longer than the Stadia.

Profchaos84d ago

Basically what windows os turning into now every few weeks logging on I'm greeted with a hey how about some office 365 or your gamepass lapsed how about renewing and decline is in little blue writing while subscribe is a huge button

anast84d ago

This and I also get a pop up to subscribe to Xbox GamePass.

PanicMechanic85d ago

So smart of you caveman Phil sphincter. Did you get the memo on what Nintendo is releasing this year?

Kyizen85d ago

I dont trust Microsoft to build an OS for this looking at the Windows phone so I think this will be just Windows with a Steam like Big Picture mode locked in the UI to launch games.

Rockstar85d ago

This is good advice from Reaper here. I trust your advice and you've got my word...I wont buy it.

Thanks Reaper!

YourMommySpoils85d ago

Then don't complain about facts.

PanicMechanic84d ago (Edited 84d ago )

So in other words, it’s just another ROG Ally. I think MS has a winner🤣🤣

FinalFantasyFanatic85d ago

I remember when my sister bought a Windows phone, that thing was missing so many basic features, she didn't even own the phone for 3 months before getting frustrated and swapping it out.

Profchaos84d ago

I'll be honest I had a older relative that loved the windows phone cause it had a huge dial, contacts and camera button that was all it got used for.

Oh and it was bright green so easy to find

Moral of the story one person's trash is another's treasure

Reaper22_84d ago

Windows phones weren't the best but I also remember sonys phones didn't fare too well either. As a matter of fact they're newest ones aren't doing so great either. Not even in Japan. That says alot.

Profchaos84d ago

@reaper22 honestly Shane about the Sony phones to I brought the Xperia 3 when they announced remote play for it and it was one of the best ones I have had the battery lasted a few days the camera was some obscene 50mp but the physical design lagged behind Samsung and I think that was a huge reason it failed

Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Reassures Xbox Gamers Their Gaming Library Isn't Going Anywhere

Xbox's CEO Phil Spencer assures that, even though they are expanding to other platforms, Xbox gamer's libraries aren't going anywhere.

jznrpg134d ago

Phil, the words of a guy who only speaks the truth.

If I was an Xbox owner I wouldn’t feel comfortable with what he just said

crazyCoconuts134d ago

Reading his quote sounds like word salad. I'm not sure he said anything really.

darthv72134d ago

I'd rather him say more of our library will be made available now. It sucks to have so many 360 era games still stuck in limbo, especially Activision ones now that they are buddy buddy.

VenomUK134d ago (Edited 134d ago )

Sarah Bond had committed to backwards compatibility, so interpreting Phil Spencer’s quote, old Xbox games will always be playable with a PS3 on PSN like cloud solution, and on new hardware if a new Xbox console is ever released.

why does this even need to be reassured? it really goes to show you how nervous there fanbase is.

Eonjay134d ago

Right. I was thinking the same thing. This shouldn't be some sort of 'benefit' for Xbox gamers as MS goes to Sony and Nintendo... This should just be implied. No matter where the games go in the future should have any impact on the purchased games libraries of current Xbox consumers.

pwnmaster3000134d ago

Yup no matter how much they say they don’t care, the fanbase care lol

Profchaos134d ago (Edited 134d ago )

What's left of them one the last 12 months I've seen Xbox consoles flooding second hand marketplaces and going for half of their RRP

In addition this interview the whole panel was clearly not believing the viewpoint but not wanting to offend their guest

LabRat133d ago

When (or "if") Xbox goes out of hardware those who don't play on Cloud or prefer hardware...where will they play their library?

PhillyDonJawn133d ago

Not the question. If you already gave the hardware and games. Why would it disappear?

Chocoburger134d ago

Ah yes, Phillip, the pinnacle of honesty, and he never changes his mind. We can all take his word for it without hesitation. 🤥

Profchaos134d ago

He did but in the follow up sentence he talked about charging pricing because they are a business so who knows maybe the next gen box has a fee to use their emulator service I imagine wine ports to a PC architecture
