Australian Retail Summed Up In One Perfect Image

Hey, anyone feel like paying $59.95 for an Xbox memory card? That’s an original Xbox memory card. Not an Xbox One memory card (those don’t exist) not an Xbox 360 memory card — an original Xbox memory card, like for the first Xbox.

This picture was taken today, in a David Jones store in Australia. It is there, right now. It is on the store shelves. You can totally buy it… for $59.95.

I think this would be more suited to a collector though. It might be worth even more in 10-20 years time provided that it is kept in good condition and left unopened.

Outrageous if someone spends that much money for another purpose other than that though.

Considering the original Xbox came with an hard drive as standard, who even bought an memory card...

barb_wire3701d ago

Heck my local Walmart had up until just 2yrs ago, the Gamecube game 'Odama' on sale for $59.99.

So, seeing a xbox memory card for $59.99 wouldn't surprise me at all.

The EB games near me are still selling ps2 games in a bargain bin for 'under 15'. most are guitar hero and fifa games and are in blank cases or covered in stickers.

Pozzle3701d ago

EB Games' "bargain bin" is so ridiculous. My local EB Games sells most PS2 games for $10-30 and many of the covers have been drawn with a green sharpie. It's ridiculous how much they charge for crap. D:

i know, it really annoys me that they can offer a couple of bucks for em but charge a fortune

Still, we've got to admit just how bad it is for our gamer brethren down in Australia. I would think that it has got to be cheaper to import everything from the US et al than to buy down the street. Sad, very sad...

jessupj3701d ago

It is. I almost always buy online.

It used to just be my generation, but even my mum and her friends are buying online a lot these days.

Retail is in serious trouble down here in Australia and they need to change if they want to stay in business. Unfortunately, instead putting in a little effort and making themselves more attractive, they just want the government to start putting heavy taxes on online goods.

Typical lazy businesses.

Don't forget the fact that we pay on average 100$ Australian for latest release games here compared to $60 US (Aus $ is about 90c US atm) AND to top it off, there's currently no live Data Centres for the Azure network down under.

That's right, We're about to pay $100 for Titanfall this week and have to connect to fucking Asia to play the game.

THAT is what it's like to be an Australian gamer - pay a shitload more than the rest of the world, get a shitload less in return.

Then again, Australia has (currently) some of the most overpriced property in the entire world now (Average $650k+ in Sydney) and think that's swell, so bring ripped off blind for our gaming hobbies is something they take in their stride too.

Bottom line, the Australian public are fucking idiots anyway, so this doesn't matter at all.

Carry on.

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

Downplaying every rendition of elves over a period of 70+ years? What kind of headline is that?

kythlyn9d ago

That and they're not that great. =_=; Game's too short to really get to know them.

"I won’t make that mistake again." It's impossible to that mistake again, so of course the write won't make it again.

VincentVanBro8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

LMAO what?! Every article that sings DD2's praises just seems off now that I've played it for myself. Its a mid game, 7/10 at best and that is generous. The elves are a joke too, much less interesting than say the Witcher 3's elves or Baldur's Gate 3's elves.
