Redux: Dark Matters blasts onto Dreamcast … a few years late

Don’t let the fact that Sega stopped supporting the Dreamcast over a decade ago put you off buying a shiny new game. Redux: Dark Matters, a retro-styled side-scrolling space shooter, has now been released after an unexpectedly lengthy development.

Indie developer KTX Software in association with the storied NG:DEV.TEAM secured $53,121 in funding for the game via Kickstarter in July 2012. By the time the estimated delivery date December 2012 rolled around, it was clear the team needed more time design the game they wanted to make.

While Im happy that there are still people developing games for classic systems, over $50,000 in kickstart pledges makes me laugh. This game could have been coded by a 6th grader for $20 and a case of Mountain Dew.

I still love to see games continuing to be made for these great systems of our past, though. Some of the games being made for the Atari 2600 are mind blowing and rival that of the more powerful NES. I applaud the effort to push old hardware, far past manufacturers specifications and expectations.
