Hardcore Gamer: It really is hard to envision how Nintendo’s view of the cooperative mode in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and U, along with Super Mario 3D World came to be. Nintendo was trying to create a multiplayer experience for the Mario series, one tuned for action, but also accommodating for families and friends. But if you’ve ever played either of those games with friends, you’ll realize within the first go that the game wasn’t destined to be a “help your friends get to the end of the stage” kind of cooperative. Nintendo made a number of design choices that eliminate the cooperative vibe entirely, but whether they wanted to or not, they created a twist on multiplayer that sneakily stood between cooperation and competition, all while letting gamers embrace their own dark sides.
While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.
Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.
It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny
Armored Core VI?
Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.
Is something big coming soon to branch the story?
No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
The Nintendo Switch is potentially nearing its lifespan, and several Wii U games haven't found their way over as ports yet.
I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.
The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.
This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.
Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
This is VERY true. It really brings back the days of Mario Kart Battle, where even though you were huddled around a TV bonding with your buddies, you were kicking the crap out of each other.
Wow a positive article about Nintendo and all I can hear is crickets. I bet you there won't be too much action in the comment section for this article but I bet you if it was a negative article the fanboys be out full force.
Some of the stars absolutely needed a 2nd player in Mario 3d and NSMB. My gf always runs the tablet and we help each other out. That's the kind of coop experience that keeps my gf gaming. And the more we play games together, the easier it is to justify my entertainment purchases. :)
My 8 yr old and his friends ONLY play the anti co-op way- At first I thought it would cause arguments between them- then I realized they were having a blast knocking each other off- They did compete for the crown - trying to steal it from each other in SM3DW - but had fun doing so
It's quite simple. When they saw/ played Little Big Planet, they thought " this will work in a side scrolling Mario game AND being Nintendo people will say it's original. They always do. " ;-)
