Does this mean that next week, the top pre-ordered title will be Watch Dogs?

TomShoe3824d ago

Yep. Should be Watch Dogs (PS4), GT6, and then Destiny (PS4).

JokesOnYou3824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

Uh-Oh, a certain title is on the Ryse, with much better preorders at 135k, 3rd in terms of console games weekly bump behind a COD @30k, Forza5 @ almost 25k, Ryse bumped up @23k. Hell all of X1 exclusives preorders are doing well DR3 is neck and neck with Ryse preorder totals.

I still think digital is going to play a major factor more so than ever before in X1 game sales this gen.

GiggMan3824d ago

@Jokes, Ryse is on the rise. Microsoft is doing the right thing if you ask me and delaying the reviews for it. Dead Rising is going to sell well and deserves it also.

Eonjay3824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

@GiggMan

Its interesting how close the sales of Ryse and DR3 are to each other. I'm not really sure if I agree with their decision to postpone Ryse reviews though. Are you saying that their strategy is to promote each separately?

If Ryse is really good, I think a better strategy would be to get it out there early to build up as much hype as possible before launch.

I'm not a marketing expert but this is what I would do... because it seems like folks are buying these titles in pairs.

GiggMan3824d ago

@Eonjay, I'm thinking that they may not have that much confidence in how it's going to review. The previews are all over the place and you can never tell with the gaming media.

I agree with you and think it's strange that they would hold Ryse reviews until the last minute.

So I guess COD pro-orders for XBO surpassed PS4.

TomShoe3824d ago

The PS4 version is already out...

Funantic13824d ago

Well the PS4 version of COD:Ghost had 440,772 preorders the week of the PS4 release date. The Xbone has 462,512 preorders of COD this week of their launch. So the X1 did surpass the PS4 in preorders on that game in particular relative to their launches.

TheFallenAngel3824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

@Funantic

The PS4 version on Ghosts have been for sale since November the 5th. Why would you pre order it when you can buy it?

scott1823824d ago

@Funantic

Are we talking about pre orders in the same time frame, or pre orders total. Because people are just buying it now for the ps4. X1 is releasing a week later so it is bound to have more total pre orders.

nasnas763824d ago

@TheFallenAngel Re-read his statement. He compared 2 different weeks, only counting the release week of each system. Last week = PS4, this week = xbox. Numbers would be fair comparing the numbers to its own launch week window.

aceitman3824d ago

Software figures for the US first two days are also in. Call of Duty: Ghosts leads the pack with sales 703,638.

Riderz13373824d ago

Yes but it's worth noting that Xbox One version had 30K additional pre orders the week before launch whereas the PS4 had 80K additional pre orders the week before launch.

mkis0073824d ago

Ps4 launch titles will not be on that list due to the fact they can't be preordered...they are just sold...if you want to see Sales go look up amazons 2013 best sellers list...Killzone is the highest at 24/100 (crazy beating out bioshock 360 and far cry 360). 26 is AC4 for ps4, 32 is Ghosts for ps4, 53 is battlefield ps4, 79 is knack, and as of now 100 is Ghosts for xbox1(Only been on sale a day, but it does take into account preorders that have shipped).

I think it is weird how more poeple are preordering watch dogs than forza.

nasnas763824d ago

"Ps4 launch titles will not be on that list due to the fact they can't be preordered...they are just sold"

you can change the dates to get previous week's sales numbers

mkis0073824d ago

Well then of course xbox1 preorders will be more...it was preorderable for nearly 2 weeks longer! Nov5th ps4 ov19th? Xbox1

mkis0073824d ago

Needs a major overhaul. Cancel all projects and start over. Get some new ideas in there. I for one think they should sell the game in 2 parts, charge $20 for the insane story and $40 for the multiplayer, that way people like me will give them sales.

Naga3824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

Just crunched the some numbers in case anyone is interested. If the VGChartz data is correct, that's 1,533,310 launch games currently pre-ordered for the Xbox One.

Xbox One exclusives (Forza, Ryse, DR3) account for 423,584 of those games, or 28%. It's worth noting that Killer Instinct and some other exclusives are not on the list.

It should be interesting to see how the final sales numbers are affected by all of the incoming reviews this week.

Dragonborn3123824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

Awesome thanks for doing the math. It would be interesting to see what the numbers are for the PS4 launch games and how they compare. I wish worldwide preorder numbers were available, would be cool to see the global numbers.

HammadTheBeast3824d ago

There's an article about that, about 370 k for KZ on launch day, and about 100 k for Knack.

Automatic793824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

I don't think reviews will play a big part at all most have there mind set whether the game is good or bad. You saw last week ps4 reviews. Look how many people purchased killzone and knack. That alone should be a good indicator that people just want a new system and incredible experiences being good or bad.

Naga3824d ago (Edited 3824d ago )

That's a good point, and I think you're probably right. Barring something big like Ryse getting an average score of less than 5/10, I don't think we'll see the reviews shift things much. And reviews for Ryse don't drop until just before launch, so even then we still wouldn't see much of an effect. Perhaps if there were more time between reviews and launch for people to change their mind, things might be different.

YodaCracker3823d ago (Edited 3823d ago )

Killer Instinct??? That is a free-to-play downloadable game... Why would it be on a retail pre-order list?

Naga3823d ago

Oh I didn't mean to suggest it should be on the list. I just noted that it isn't.

It's relevant because it's an Xbox One exclusive whose interest isn't being represented on the list. Note that I mentioned that immediately after bringing up the percentage of pre-orders that were Xbox One exclusives.

B-radical3824d ago

So sick of cod I reckon dr3 deserves top spot more

Dragonborn3123824d ago

Yeah I really hope Dead Rising 3 sells well, to show that there is demand for more quality installations in the series. Also really hope Ryse sells well as well, because hopefully that can turn into a long-last IP.

How can any Xbox studio trust Microsoft now?

For Xbox’s hugely expanded gaming division, anything that isn’t Call of Duty is now a failure, and that’s a problem

Honestly, If I worked presently for Microsoft's gaming division, I would update my CV and look for work elsewhere...

Simon_the_sorcerer16h ago

I would do the same, because MS will most likely pull-off more stunts like this in the near future...

Chocoburger6h ago

"Now"?

How about "ever"?

They closed so many of their dev teams during the second half of the Xbox 360 era. Have we forgotten history so quickly?

Dummy fake journalists acting so surprised over these recent closures, when this is something that's been going on for well over a decade now with MS.

Report Claims Xbox Is Planning More Cuts Following Studio Closures

"The sudden closure of several video-game studios at Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox division was the result of a widespread cost-cutting initiative that still isn’t finished.

This week, Xbox began offering voluntary severance agreements to producers, quality assurance testers and other staff at ZeniMax, which it purchased in 2020 for $7.5 billion, according to people familiar with the company’s plans. Others across the Xbox organization have been told that more cuts are on the way.

Speaking about the closures more broadly, Booty said that the company’s studios had been spread too thin — like “peanut butter on bread” — and that leaders across the division had felt understaffed. They decided to close these studios to free up resources elsewhere, he said.

Game Pass has not seen the massive growth that Xbox boss Phil Spencer may have been hoping for."

Sense it seems very few remember that human's were around before 2020 the next studio to close will be bethesda based no doubt on the history of.

Fallout 76
Elder scrolls online
elder scrolls blades mobile
fallout mobile
The vr versions of old games

Then you got starfield pissing out cash nothing to cover it.

I doubt tod's team or any sub team is making m$ cash they are no doubt on the chopping block for job cuts

If you can remember before 2020 even fallout 76 was made with over 4 studios.

"Speaking about the closures more broadly, Booty said that the company’s studios had been spread too thin — like “peanut butter on bread” — and that leaders across the division had felt understaffed. They decided to close these studios to free up resources elsewhere, he said"

So what you're saying is...you bought all these studios and you guys can't run them.

Jesus.

Inverno13h ago

Spread thin after firing over 2000 employees a few months prior. So basically they created the problem and their solution was to just fire more people. Absolute geniuses over at Xbox, of course can we even believe this to be the reason for the closures?

just_looken12h agoShowReplies(1)
Profchaos11h ago

Leaders can't run them hire more management create new roles don't shutter entire studios cause you can't figure out how to run them.

Unless the reality is this whole consolidation thing was really an excuse for IP harvesting

anast1h ago

He's lying. They are doing it for the shareholders.

Eonjay13h ago

Reports are suggesting that Game Pass will be getting a price hike soon and that Call of Duty may not be added to the day one offering. I honestly have a hard time believing this but it does beg the question why exactly did GP fail? I think the answer is that it just didn't get the growth that it anticipated. Jim was right but I wish he wasn't because at the end of the day, its gamers, devs and other front-line workers who have to absorb the blow for Spencer and team's miscalculations.

NotoriousWhiz12h ago

And out of the ashes something even better than Xbox will be born.

Eonjay12h ago

Honestly as long as is not a situation where the industry has to contract in order focus wealth on a few people who are already trillionaires..

Barlos6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

It's already here and it was born before Xbox was even a thing. It's called PlayStation.

Tacoboto11h ago

I think 2022 killed the Series X.

2021 was a good year for Xbox though and maybe the best in a long long time, hardware and software and as a publisher. Halo Infinite launched to popularity, Forza Horizon 5 blew everyone away, Psychonauts 2 was so well received, Flight Simulator on console, Deathloop even on PS5 & PC.

But they followed that up with next to nothing. Then 2023 with Redfall, a disappointing Forza, Starfield, and 2024 leads with closures and layoffs. And some tweets reminding us Hellblade is days away.

The only disappointment with the PS5 is not enough Sony games. Xbox followed up no games with disappointing ones.

Scissorman13h ago

For all the armchair executives who were calling for Sony to release its big-budget AAA games on PS+, the same exact thing would have happened at PlayStation. Game Pass has killed Xbox. Congrats.

shinoff218313h ago

There's not many of of us clamoring for Sony to do this because most of us understand it would kill Playstation. I'm sure there's a few but I've not seen alot of it myself.

porkChop1h ago

"the same exact thing would have happened at PlayStation"

But the same thing *has* been happening at PS. They've closed, what, 3 or 4 studios so far this gen? Laid off plenty of staff, restructured studios, etc.

BehindTheRows4m ago(Edited 0m ago)

PlayStation isn’t struggling. Xbox is. That’s the difference.

Sony also didn’t buy out multiple publishers with LOTS of studios and leave them in a state of uncertainty.

So, he’s absolutely right that Sony not following Game Pass in its entirety was smart as this very thing could have happened. Name a team, like Tango, who wasn’t struggling (like Tango) that Sony closed. Every closure was because of a studio who wasn’t pulling their weight.

Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones, Avowed, Towerborne, and Call of Duty are still to be released this year. Marcus Fenix collection to be added to the list with the Xbox showcase, hopefully.

"Xbox Has Had More Studio Closures Than First Party Game Releases So Far In 2024"

they kept the IPs though. they'll be making them under the MS brand i'm guessing. like minecraft all those years ago.

Kinda missing the forest for all the trees statement!

shinoff218322h ago(Edited 22h ago)

Bet all those don't make it though this year

romulus2321h ago(Edited 21h ago)

If we're going to talk in "still to be's" there still could be more studio closures from Microsoft this year as well.

DOMination-18h ago

How much confidence do people have in these games being good though? I hope they will be (especially Avowed) but from what we know of them so far, it's hardly a guarantee, is it?

And even if they do turn out to be good, how much of that will be down to Xbox and its leadership? Most of these games were either sequels to games made before being acquired or started development before being acquired.

And just a note on Hellblade II - it is out in two weeks and unless I'm missing something, I don't see much in the way of previews or advertising from Microsoft. Not ideal for a niche game that looks like it probably cost a lot of money to make. It genuinely feels like another game being sent out to die and then have the studio shut down.

Elda17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

To me...Avowed graphics look cheap, the game looks generic as well as boring.

I find it interesting that people have to resort to praising how they were randomly born in a certain location to say they're not weird. But, I'm not sure this kind of stupidity can be generalized over an entire group of people, at least, I'm being optimistic here.

Eonjay1d ago (Edited 1d ago )

Sony doesn't have to bother fighting the next Microsoft acquisition. The massive layoff by themselves should be enough to get the next big buy blocked.

Hofstaderman23h ago

Vindicates Jim Ryan. Don't know who didnt see this coming except those frothing pro acquisition fanboys who are not commenting here for some reason....

Let’s not pretend Sony is setting the world on fire with its first party either….it’s been crickets from them as well. In fact they even said not to expect any at all this year.
MS is a dumpster fire and Sony isn’t fighting anymore and it shows. I fail to see how this is a good thing.

Skuletor15h ago

Wasn't it no new existing IP entries? That would still leave room for new IPs, maybe we'll see one or more of those this year.

Sonic188119h ago

I was actually thinking about that. You beat me to it

MrDead1d ago

So if MS hadn't spent $80 billion consolidating the industry just think of all the games and jobs that would have saved.

MS is a drain on gaming and have been nothing but a negative.

MrCrimson22h ago

not exactly like the studios were putting out good games anyway. Industry needs to restart from the ground up; if games like battlebit or manor lords can be made by teams with 10 people - then there's something fundamentally wrong with having 500 man teams put out glitchy overmonetized crap.

shinoff218322h ago

Interesting. Prey was a good game, evil within was dope, and hi fi was the best Xbox game that Xbox has had in so many years. That's according to the base.

romulus2321h ago

HiFi Rush was a really good game actually so that's hardly the reason for shutting down Tango.
