Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness Review— A Slight Blemish (The Koalition)

Garrett of The Koalition writes:

I'm torn. I love SRPGs, and I believe Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness is a fine example of the genre. While it's mechanically solid and hilariously written, it does have a game-crashing flaw, which diminishes its quality. Otherwise, I have no doubt that Disgaea D2 would fit in any SRPG fan's collection.

"I’ve never played a Disgaea game before this one... I'm just a fan of SRPGs"

The two don't seem to add up, reviewer really needs to go play the others.

"It also didn’t help that I noticed four decimal places, leading up to a maximum level of 1,000."

Ummm... ok, 1000... if there's one thing Disgaea is known for it's levelling to 9999. And then that's only a fraction of truly levelling your characters.

"Outside of the story, Laharl and (sort of?) friends can explore the castle, which serves as the HUD"

HUD? Must be a TLA I've missed out on or maybe he meant hub?

Some odd stuff in that review and a whole hell of a lot more to the Disgaea games than is touched on there.

I justed started the Disgaea series with Afternoon of Darkness. It's been a lot of fun so far. It's nice knowing there are other games in the series to play and especially one that stars the originals again.

Linkle and Canon’s Condoning of Rule 63

Michibiku's Jenni Lada writes, "Sometimes, something happens that makes you realize the people who make games are as big a fans of them as you are. Of course they are, they’re making them after all. But we never image they’re as fanatical about things as we are. Linkle is proof, because with her we see developers following one of the Internet Rules."

Most definitely needs to be Disgaea in the number one slot. Even the most basic moves are over the top.
