Owen S: One game that really stood out for me at the EB Expo 2013 was a launch title for the Xbox One; Ryse: Son of Rome
A cinematic action adventure title that Microsoft seems to be heavily relying on to sell consoles, the expectations of this remarkable tale surrounding an unwitting centurion from Ancient Rome is high. Whilst the many specifics of the story are still, understandably, being held close to the chest what I did see promises to offer juicy plotlines of revenge and patriotism.
Dropping into the stunning visuals of an extensively and impressively detailed rendered Roman world that can only be described as something a step above current console experiences, this is a game that does feel authentic to the kinds of fantasy historical action films that we've seen over the years, such as Gladiator.
From underrated Xbox One launch titles to absolute emperors of the strategy genre, history heads will love these games based around Ancient Rome.
Ryse was awesome, i have no idea why it wasnt recieved well and why we havnt seen another, Rome conquered so much, you could take the action anywhere, and it looked great when xbox one came out, now would be even better.
Ryse: Son of Rome was an Xbox One launch title that has been left to collect dust, but Crytek should set aside Crysis and give Ryse another shot.
I really liked the original Ryse but Crytek doesn't have the funds. The mismanaged their properties and let EA raid them with Crysis for the duration of their relationship. Right now they are working on Crysis 4, I doubt they can spare resources to work on a Ryse sequel.
I recently bought it for the steamdeck and have to say... 60fps is a game changer. I really wished MS had gotten a one x patch or series boost mode option but sadly, nope. Other games that definitely deserve a second chance (esp on steamdeck/pc) are quantum break and sunset overdrive. Both deserved 60fps support on one x / series but you have to go to PC for that.
Rumor has it Crytek had plans for a Ryse 2 but due to the low turnout for XB (at the time) it was shelved. They really should give this another shot. i dont care if its multiplat on PS and XB and PC and Switch... just so long as part 2 gets made.
Game was good enough, not great.
Graphically it was top notch. Still holds well till this day.
Xbox Game Pass Quests recently reset for the month of August. So if you try to collect as many Microsoft Rewards points as possible, there's a new set available now.
This is not what I would call value for money spent. They give you quests in liveservice games to get you "re-engaged" with the monetization schemes or to get you hooked or so you at least spend some extra on skins and loot boxes. Then they dole out paltry points after you have already paid extra for whichever liveservice within a liveservice that you are already paying for. My worry is people can't actually be that stupid to fall for this, can they?
I know it's off screen video, but it is looking really impressive. Smooth frame rate, high fidelity graphics, and gameplay looks great. I'm excited and it's definitely a DAY ONE Digital Download for me! November 22nd can't come soon enough
I agree, after all this time, all the cursing, all the downplaying, it seems Ryse could be a sleeper hit launch title.
I guess the low expectations the game achieved after all those previews bashing it for all the QTE might help it when it finally ships and (maybe) reviews start praising it for the visuals and the simple fun.
I'll add it to my launch list.
People love to hate on this one (being an Xbox One exclusive) but the game definitely shows promise.
That said, since the original Crysis and Farcry . . . has Crytek really made a truly fun experience?
I honestly don't feel so.
That said, I truly have high hopes for this one.
That scene with the decapitated Roman soldiers has a cinematic feel to it. It's going to be nice to dive into the story along with those beautiful visuals
even with all the fanboy hate and all..this game will sell well enough to get a sequel..as crytek has already even stated that they have started ground work on a sequel with dragons and all.more fantasy...and im looking forward to it.
