Best PS3 Games of the Generation: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

This article contains spoilers

In 1998, Hideo Kojima and Konami released Metal Gear Solid, an Action-adventure, stealth game that started a legacy. Though not the first title in the Metal Gear franchise, Metal Gear Solid innovated not just only the Action-adventure genre but video games in general. Introducing fully voiced cinematic cutscenes rendered with the in-game engine. With its success with Metal Gear Solid Konami released its sequel and prequel Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater on the Playstation 2.

Legendary, indeed. For me, it is the single best video game ever created. For me, it is the only game I can consider perfect from every single aspect, it is a true masterpiece unlike anything else.

A lot of people look at MGS4, or hell even Metal Gear as a whole, and they don't see a lot of replay value. For many, it is a series that you play once to get the great story, and that's it.

For me, and other serious hardcore fans, we take the time to see that there is actually a SHIT ton of extras in these games, yet they are somewhat hidden from plain sight, and that's one thing that makes them so great.

MGS4 is probably the most packed with things to do and find in the single player (RIP MGO :'( ) aside from Peace Walker, and the experience of trying to find every gun, every music, get every emblem, find secret areas etc..

Combined with the obviously wonderful story, graphics, characters, stealth and action. It's just too freaking amazing in every single way, and I have not a single complaint with this game, not even the unusually long cutscenes, I love that stuff.

The first time I used the Tenagashima and the Solar Gun, I was just so happy at how great they were.

I have so many memories with this game, and as AMAZING as Phantom Pain looks (I don't have the worries like others do about it being too casual), I don't think it will reach MGS4's perfection.

People are mad.
I agree with you though. It may, imo, not be the 'best game ever created' but for me it's the 2nd best game ever just after FFX.
I spent so many days and nights with this game. I loved the story. The gameplay. The graphics (huge blast back in 2008).
And a big kudos to Kj Prod. for implementing MGO which was my all time favorite multiplayer.
Words can't describe how much I miss MGO. And neither my love for MGS4.

My personal game of the generation.

MGS 4 is definitely my favorite game, ever. That is, perhaps, until MGSV comes out.

jonnyvito3876d ago

Yeah, favourite game ever until MGSV

Interesting that Konami is releasing nothing of note and still enjoying high profits. I guess this is the allure to companies.

Of course, they rereleased MGS series on modern platforms. Thank You Mr. Kojima.

Since The Contra Revival Shows Konami Still Cares, How About A New Castlevania?

Hanzala from eXputer: "Contra: Operation Galuga is a classic revival done right, but why hasn't Konami done the same yet for the bigger and more popular Castlevania?"

shinoff218336d ago

Slowdown. Let them get these suikoden games done first. Alot of us are still waiting for those

Castlevania fighting game for wii needs to be remade plz

Aphrodia35d ago

well, the new C ontra was made by Wayforward, who have been taking sooooo many of these classic franchises and making new iterations of them. Imo they aren't very good at it. And I don't see operation galuga being a large enough success to possibly give them Castlevania.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro62d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball200063d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin63d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole62d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix62d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel198962d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor62d ago (Edited 62d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2
