I love Steam, but this kind of stuff is a complete waste of time IMO. Other than 12 year old kids, who has time for this?

Badnik3956d ago

This guy who made six bucks by selling cards and went on to buy Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Castle Crashers.

BattleAxe3956d ago

That's fine, but I'm talking about people who are older than 12 years old.

TekoIie3955d ago

@BattleAxe

Does being over 12 mean you dont like free money? All you have to do is play your games and you get cards every so often.

Kamikaze1353956d ago

Since you're clearly under 12 due to your complete ignorance, why don't you tell us?

Xristo3956d ago

I sold a Mars: War Logs Mole Queen foil card for $10.00 (cost the buyer $11.49), yesterday.

http://steamcommunity.com/m...

Now you tell me, how is THAT a waste of time? It paid for the game which was $9.99 at the time.

TekoIie3955d ago

Looking forward to the day where I get a valuable foil card :)

dedicatedtogamers3956d ago

I always found it funny how Steam users used to mock consoles because of "those dumb Cheevos" and then when Achievements came to Steam, they said "but it's different because you don't have a gamerscore".

But now Steam users have XP and a level.

And now they trade cards with each other.

It's all so silly, but I guess everything is "hardcore" when it's on PC.

(and this is coming from a guy who's been a PC gamer since the MS-DOS days).

Eldyraen3956d ago

I agree its a bit silly but kind of an interesting idea. In the end its like someone on the article's comments mentioned: its all about keeping people using Steam as some people are a bit fanatical about such things.

However I could care less as I just use it for an easy/cheap way to buy PC games and doubt its going to change in that regard. Who knows though--I might sell a few cards here and there and get some cheap games 'free' simply for playing games now ;)

SilentNegotiator3956d ago

I hate that they created the XP/level system. I feel like if I don't get it high enough, I'm going to miss out on things (especially since they already have rewards both planned and implemented that excludes lesser levels).

But I DO like the cards. They're kind of addicting. And before they became stupidly cheap, I was paying for some indie games by selling cards.

dedicatedtogamers3956d ago

Save your "days of Summer" cards because those will be worth a lot more 6 months from now after everyone has already made their badges and the stragglers want to catch up.

The cards are fun, but they're just one more "metagame" thing that I don't - personally - believe belong in gaming. But hey, that's just like my opinion, man.

SilentNegotiator3956d ago

....I didn't even think about it like that. I'm totally going to save my summer cards and turn them into actual games in a few months!

+1 helpful

cyguration3956d ago

Sorry, dude, I love you and all (no homo) but huge disagree here.

I just knocked off half the price of my last purchase by selling my trading cards. And I get them just by doing nothingness stuff (lately I've just been play-testing mods and fixing up some stuff in Garry's Mod and the cards I gather sell for like $0.10 through $0.12)

I'm basically making half-a-dollar every day just by doing stuff I normally do. No... this is huge and if I ever have time to just play hardcore like I used to, I could make some serious bank towards new game purchases.

This is way more legit than XBL, which is nothing but a money sucker.

gamernova3955d ago

Bro, you're generalizing. I am a pc gamer and never once mocked achievements. I think they add extra motivation and serve as medals for completing difficult tasks in game. So yeah, not all pc gamers are the same.

TekoIie3955d ago (Edited 3955d ago )

Except that its completely optional to use the cards/badges to increase your level. You can just sell them and let the money build up to get a free game.

TwistingWords3955d ago

Hardly anybody said that, stop it with your petty lying... Every comment you make is just you taking pop shots at anyone who likes to play something other than a Playstation.

Should have happened a long time ago. People wanting refunds after 50 hours in game.

fsfsxii17d ago

Pc gamers will take this as an excuse to pirate things

KyRo17d ago

I'm not sure why you're getting disgrees. Whilst not all PC gamers are petty, an awful lot of them are lol

Crows9017d ago

Entirely untrue. Not any more petty than console gamers. The only large difference is console gamers don't have much of a choice.

Michiel198916d ago

Not sure why you're getting agrees. an awful lot of console gamers are overemotional twinks ready to go to war over a plastic box, I'll take being a pc gamer then.

Speaking about overgeneralizing much.

Nooderus16d ago

"X" type of gamer conversations are cringe

qalpha17d ago

Daily reminder that 'TheGamer' is a corporate-generated, anti-gamer, anti-consumer, clickbait web site. They are mostly A.I. generated articles that villainize gamers. They provide nothing positive and actively try to provoke and divide the community through extreme view points and politics. Do not give them any clicks.

Inverno17d ago

Only scumbags? As if people don't play their games on console put in the most amount of hours and return it to GameStop and trade it in for another game. But also how many people are actually do this? And what games have been allowed to be refunded?

DustMan17d ago

You can refund any game you've purchased as long as it hasn't been longer than two weeks, and you've played less than 2 hours. I wish they would change it to 3 hours because some RPG's have so much exposition that you may only get an hour total of complete gameplay. That's my only knock on it. I've refunded plenty of stuff I was just curious to try. I typically stay away from Early Access titles which are the only ones affected by this policy change.

Inverno17d ago

Apparently early access doesn't count, only complete games with a play early preorder bonus.

Gaming4Life198117d ago

I definitely know if I want a refund in 2 hours.

SegaSaturn66916d ago

I never liked refunding anything. Even if a film is bad, i dont want my money back. Sometimes things just aren't for me, and it's not the creator's fault necessarily.

Gaming4Life198116d ago

I feel you and i have never walked out on a bad movie cause I payed my money. I also don't refund games cause I'm a gamer and I know what to buy lol. I think having a digital refund is great.
