LOVEFILM ending UK game rentals in August

LOVEFiLM has just announced it will be terminating all game rentals for both new and existing customers as of August 8th.

It is lame, and myself and my brother have quit lovefilm because of this, and we know of loads of other people too who are quitting.

It's not good enough, looks like it's going to be ebay and second hand game stores for me then for those single player games.

Just had a look at Boomerang rentals and it looks better than Blockbuster imho, a much larger selection of games.

Oh and guy's, you CAN CANCEL when you want, don't let them say to you that you have to ring back 5 days before your next bill date.

Just got off the phone and cancelled mine,Also Kayant, i've heard blockbuster are worse than lovefilm, they takes ages to send you discs and don't respond to emails and don't stock many games.

I use blockbuster.. they have a top ticket system which works really well. I've never tried emailing them but found their phone support to be pretty good. It's true though that their game selection is terrible compared to lovefilm.

This is not gud, hope the reason isn't because of xbone policies and would give me more reason to be angry with ms. Me and partner have lovefilm to rent games mainly so will be cancelling it straight away. Heard about another similar service called boomarang rentals which only rent games and has free month trial so be giving that a go.

I don't know why they are even doing it now most games have demos on the stores

Perhaps Lovefilm will do a similar 180 like Microsoft when most people cancel their subscription !! .

Yea they will try and make you cancel just before your bill date - just say no I want to cancel now

That's what i hope Nitrogav, and aiBreeze, a friend told me yesterday he's been waiting a week and a half for his next movie and game to be sent, say's blockbuster have ignored all his emails and says it's a really bad service.

So i think i'll skip blockbuster.

And yeah spread the news, as many people as possible to cancel :)

I've never had that problem myself and I've used them a good four or so months. Every so often (around Christmas time for me) they have taken 2-3 days to send new stuff out but recently it's been fine. Having said that though, I just checked out boomerang rentals and will be moving over to there fully once my free trial ends.

Well here in Norway they are shutting down their Lovefilm department altogether from the 10th of July.

Too bad, I have been a subscriber for years now and have seen a lot of great movies through them. Guess mail fees isn't making it profitable enough anymore.

Still have Netflix, but I miss out on extra material, games and Bluray quality films....

As is alway's the case, we the consumer are left in the dark as to the reason.

Whatever lovefilm, i'm gone, cancelled and sent back my discs earlier.

I like the fact they try offering it to you cheaper when you say you want to cancel even though i made it clear i was using lovefilm for GAMES, and once that was'nt an option that i'd have no intrest in the service haha.

What I would really love to see is a digital rental service where you could pay say £5 and rent the game for the whole weekend or week. And maybe a subscription service like Lovefilm where you can rent it for as long as you need and then swop it for another and limit that to like 3 different games a month.

Amazon own Lovefilm so who knows why they decided to stop game rentals. Maybe they think the rentals are hurting new games sales on Amazon?
