Microsoft once again shows why they're a software company first and a hardware company... well last.
The xbox was big, clunky and ugly. The 360 looked ok, but had hardware failures that made China blush. The Xbone (pronounced ex bone, how it will forever be called) looks like my old VCR from 1992. For a second I didn't know whether to put a disc in it or put my feet up on it, or rest my drink on it lol

There is a pretty solid rumor that MS is having problems with eSRAM yield. There is also the rumor they are going to under-clock the SoC because of this. They have chosen to go with a big motherhonking fan on top of the SoC and make the case with whole panel sections as open grate slots. The whole combo looks like nothing but heat problems. The rumor is made even worse by the news that Gamestop has 1/4 the pre-order numbers for the XBone compared to the PS4, indicating production problems with the XBone.

The PS4 size plus lack of huge fan vents indicates Sony may be using liquid cooling heatpipes instead of a giant fan. More expensive but much more efficient and reliable. There are going to be a lot of ooh's and aah's when the case of the PS4 gets opened up to see what is inside. It will make the insides of the XBone look like it's already 10 years old in comparison.

Don't get me wrong I love XB. I have a 360 sitting in my living room and no PS3. (I do have a PSone however . . . FF 7-9 baby). I'm not a fan of the DRM, I think digital games are dangerous, and having the console and the games to plug in and play is not a hard thing to do.

XB revealed this magic brick that literally has to be connected to the internet to play ANY type of game. No offense but that sounds pretty simple (minded) to me.

If XBO was revealed, with games first, OPTIONAL features like the kinect or TV functions without the DRM . . . then it would actually be a console war. MS made a console like a PC. Period, and that's not exactly what gamers want.

If MS didn't do DRM, then I would have a tougher time deciding which console I'm going to get NexGen, however they DID and the PS4 will be sitting in my living room . . . that sexy piece of eye candy that I can't get enough of.

Microsoft doesn't design nor make it's hardware, they outsorce it to outside manufactures. MS is software. Sony on the other hand is hardware everything, they design and build everything from from ground up, but software needs to be outsourced also. I don't get how they could so ingeniously get all that cool tech in such a small package. I'd love to see the motherboard soon, to see how they pack all that gddr5 memory on board after reading only 512mb per stack come on pc graphic cards.

Ram does not run hot at all and faster ram has no benefit in games, I am againist the xbox one but saying GDDr5 ram is better than ddr3 ram for gaming is not true at all it is equal except maybe slightly faster loading times, the only heat problem would be caused by poor air flow to take the heat from the cpu/gpu out.

From what I have read over at Neo Gaf, seems MS has been having significant production and yeild issues for the chips, add that with the fact that DDR 3 runs much hotter than GDDR 5 because its much older tech, and add in another eSRAM chip on the APU die and I can see troubling heating issues.

I am not interested in the Xone, but if I was, I would wait 6 - 12 months to see if there are hardware issues. The 360 should have taught everyone that.

The loud noise comes from the spinning disc at high speed just like how it soes on pc when you are installing a software from dvd. Once installed, there's no need to have the disc spinning again to result in quiter operation

bluray has bandwidth/transfer rate higher than DVD too thus keeping the difference of reading speed between the PS3's 2X Bluray and the 360's 12X DVD at a manageable gap. it also helps that bluray has constant read speed all around but DVD read speed is faster when closer to the center and gets slower towards the edge of the DVD.

I don't like both of them but then again Ive only ever liked the PSOne design from sony and not liked the others. The 360s was nice to but the others were not. For me the Cube has been the best looking console out of them all and the Black Wii with the Blue light.

As a PC gamer, having a larger case insures more adequate airflow. If these consoles are patterned after PC architecture, I'm thinking bigger and cooler is better for long term operation. More powerful and half the size sounds like heat and durability issues.

if you really look at them the PS4 has less height, but, it is narrower and longer, dimensionaly it is probably close to the same size.

As for the comparison to a PC, everything in the PS4 is engineered to be low power with less heat, the ram as well as the jaguar 8 core processor. so I think the heat footprint would be considerably less than a standard PC.

It's all in how it was engineered.

I have no doubt this is the current gen stuff that's lower voltage/ lower heat, but there is still heat generating in the box. Thinner looks nicer, but dissipates heat less efficiently. A current high powered PC that is close to specs is very large. There is only so much that can be done physically. A 7970 isn't much smaller than the PS4 and that is just a GPU.

I guess the price difference can be attributed to the fact that MS made Kinect mandatory, thus had to include it despite the cost. With PS4 buying the new PS eye is optional. I'm sure if you add the PS Eye cost and the PS4 these consoles are basically equally priced. Having said that PS4 looks like a MUCH better machine and my logical step up from the PS3. Plus...Microsoft simply has nothing I need. I however do need me some Killzone, God of War and Naughty Dog. Sure would have liked to see something with Insomniac. :(

As I've always said when I first saw it, the XboxOne reminds me of one of those DVD\VCR combo devices from back in the day. Its not bad looking, just reminds me of one.
PS4 is okay looking, they both look bland, Hopefully, they look cool turned on.

Another great thing about Sony hardware is the longevity. I still have my original PS1 and PS2 both still work no matter how long they may sit and collect dust. You turn them on and they play the games. Can't say that about my 360's. Yes, plural; I went through four of them.

It is true that the xbox 360 had problems with overheating but when the xbox slim came out those problems where alomost erased but the xbox has hardly ever had performance problems as the ps3 has had terrible problems EX(I was playing COD Black Ops and almost every time on every missin of the story it would glitch and lag offline) and not to mention the terrible security of them being hacked over and over i think i mad my point

The Xbox One resembles an average PC rig. Same shit, the Ps4 is smaller but also better in Terms of design. I don't wanna a plastic box in my room, trust me. I want a console that doesn't even appear in my eyes, like I'm playing only with my TV Screen, so the new gamingworlds will be seamingless and more immersive. What I believe is Sony simply applied what they learned from original PS3 to PS3 slim.

In comparison Xbox ONE looks like a behemoth even next to original PS3.

Another great thing about Sony and being the electronics giant that they are is doing proper/cohesive/easy access arrangement of cables and plugs. Even the design of exhaust vents is well thought out.

The future of gaming is what? If you say SP your completely wrong. Answer = MP gaming. The only thing that holds back games like skyrim and fallout is the fact that there SP. If you were to just add 1 other player for either of those 2 games it would be leaps and bounds better and thats just adding 1 person.
