Shuhei Yoshida reveals box art of Killzone: Shadow Fall
Shuhei Yoshida chats with FINAL FANTASY XVI Producer Naoki Yoshida.
It's been 10 years since Killzone: Shadow Fall arrived for PlayStation 4 early adopters, and there's no sign of another sequel.
Sadly it was dumped by Guerrilla to focus on Horizon games only. Mainline, VR and Multiplayer.
lmao sadly? Are you pretending to have actually played the series lol Sorry bud, no Killzone on Xbox.
They brought out 4 main games and 2 spin offs: one on PSP and one on Vita. That's a decent run for any series. I also understand that Shadow Fall wasn't a success commercially despite it coming out at PS4 launch, and as a big Killzone fan even I couldn't get into it, so I think Sony/Guerrilla could see it was time to move on.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love another Killzone game in the vein of KZ2 but it's just not happening. Hell, I'd even take a remake or remaster of the first 3 games.
I'd hardly say it was "dumped" though, it spanned 3 console generations and 2 handheld generations.
@obscured:”Sadly it was dumped by Guerrilla to focus on Horizon games only. Mainline, VR and Multiplayer”
Happily it was dumped by Guerrilla to focus on Horizon games only. Mainline, VR and Multiplayer( edited to reflect the writer true feelings and allegiance)
Kill zone was a FPS far ahead of its glitched competitors with nauseating bad camera angles, 10 years old screaming curses like a drunk sailor and bot aiming assist.
“Sadly”?
The Horizon games were among the best games of all time. Killzone Shadowfail wasn’t.
True, but damn the memories of KZ2 multiplayer. Still no MP as fun as that to this date.
And Sony as a whole dumped the FPS genre so they wouldn't have products competing with COD and (until purchase) Destiny.
I loved the KZ2+3 campaigns and MP in 2. There could be so much more done with the franchise. Horizon although good, I wish they'd go back to this wonderful IP. Take a break from Horizon please.
Agreed dude, I would absolutely love a reboot of the series, one can only hope that either resistance or killzone makes a return.
Have nothing but great memories, especially of the first 3 games, but all 4 were show stoppers graphically.
To making it a successful reboot they have to change that buttons layout! Make it playable like the cod button layout. Otherwise I’ll skipping it again.
And that's the reason why many fps games failed. Instead of being original and catering to it's fans, they tried to make it like cod. No, kz doesn't need cod button layout. It needs to be like it was on kz2 or balanced liked kz3.
I think Kill Zone would do great in Sony's LS push. As well as MAG reboot and bring back Resistance into LS.
Killzone games were so polished. The gameplay was just simple joy. MP was one of the best experiences.
I remember KZ3, just staring at how awesome they animated the water and then getting wasted because of it.
I would love another killzone in the same spirit as KZ2 with the focus on physic, destruction and attention to detail. But logically I know they're not dropping Horizon anytime soon
I want a third game (I really love this series except for the non stop talking from Aloy) then they can do whatever they like.
Overall, I love the series as well. Agreed, Aloy needed to stuff a sock in it. And the writing could have been better. Hated the fact she was so condescending towards the male characters... and of course, several were wrongfully scripted as dolts.
You forgot Resistance as well another great dormant ip that is hibernating. Out of the two I like Killzone but I love Resistance.
Oh yes that definitely needs to be brought back. Honestly I think getting a remake of the first game even would be pretty awesome
Killzone 1 was mediocre.
Killzone 2 was clunky but fun enough.
Killzone 3 was less clunkier and funner than 2. The best in the series for sure. Which is not saying much, but still.
Killzone: Mediocre Fall was a lolfest of wasted potential and absolute mediocrity.
At least the Horizon series is...fine. Lacking, but fine...Yay?
As a primary Playstation user I would've gladly given up Mehzone for Halo. Even Halo Infinite is better than all Killzone games combined. Which is just sad.
C'est la vie.
Killzone played very different to halo, I mean they are fps games but very different all the same.e
I love both series and would love a new killzone & halo!!
For me the feel of the gunplay wasn't the issue, I actually enjoy the heaviness of it, but the game and level design. It was a one note, linear, and mostly boring affair. All around an extremely mediocre FPS. Ever played the game BLACK? Cuz that game was more Killzone than Killzone itself.
When it comes to Shadow Fall, it showed the direction the franchise could've gone and the possibilities but instead it proceeded to fall flat on it's face.
Like I said, Killzone was mediocre since the first one and while I doubt they'll get back to the series, if they do, they have a lot of catching up to do in the game and level design department.
If you ask me Killzone should look at Black and Red Faction for the destruction department and then look at Halo, especially Reach/ODST, for the grandiosity of it all. Or maybe even like a Road trip type game like Metro Exodus with big Open Areas to explore and some of that Cinematic Linear areas in order to appease Sony. there are plenty of great example out there is all I'm saying.
They can keep the heaviness and grounded gameplay intact, but the rest need a comprehensive reboot no doubt.
Black was awesome, as was red faction!!!
It's an absolute crying shame that proper destruction in games digressed rather than processed.
I remember mercenaries which also let you blow up whole buildings which was fricking sickkkkkk!
But yea killzone series wasn't perfect and each to there own but I still love that franchise would love to see it return.
Killzone 3 nearly killed the franchise with it being CODified so to speak. Killzone 2 multiplayer was a completely original multiplayer experience that wasnt found in any other other fps at the time. The Warzone mode was a bit of team fortress and battlefield and was best thing to come out at the time....nowadays if you mention Warzone people just think of COD's Battle royale....ugh....
CODified or not, Killzone 3 still played better than the lagfest that was 2. Which made it an easier and funner time to get through. Again, not saying much, but it is what it is.
As for the multiplayer, I didn't played much of it and couldn't care less to be honest. Multiplayer was just a waste of resources as far as I'm concerned and the last thing they should care about.
There are plenty of games that could serve as a good template or starting point for Killzone, the devs just need to realize this.
I think killzone should make a return I loved them, yeh shadowfall was meh but hey maybe a return means Sony can actually make a trailer that is actual gameplay this time lol
I've been asking for a killzone 2 remaster for years and years and years....nothing crazy like a remake...just a simple remaster.....Same with the resistance franchise....socom..... :(
SOCOM got so screwed with the PSN outage right on release. Granted, SOCOM 4 was still a step down for the series either way but the memories from SOCOM 2 are still so good. I actually got some SOCOM vibes from Factions so I hope that game ends up coming out
KZ2 and KZ3 were really good games, especially, the MP part. The MP part was unique and different, people complained about the heavy movement/weight of guns, and started to compare the game to COD.
Shadowfall, in my opinion, is the worst entry in the series. It went away with what made KZ2 and KZ3 enjoyable and unique. Nonetheless, from Sales perspective, Shadowfall sold more copies because the game was a console launch game.
I hope Sony gets a new entry in series, if not, at least a remake of KZ2.
Apparently supermassive were contracted to make killzone VR for the original psvr however Sony was unhappy with the progress so they took it back in house and it's allegedly being worked on for psVR2.
I really hope it's true as both the franchise and the psvr deserve a high profile release
In addition since cod is now firmly a Microsoft property I can see Sony go back to forming a full blown fps game again to compete Bungie would be an excellent studio for a new offline shooter if they ever get off live service island

I would love to see it return, but if it isn't a new game, I'm not interested.
Killzone 2 MP was sensational, 3 was great too, shame Shadowfall was a disappointment. Would love to see a return but don't think it'll ever happen, same with Resistance.
The respective studios are (as far as we know) working on Horizon MP and Wolverine.
I'd like a Battlefield inspired Killzone MP game, with dropships and Mechs to boot.
Killzone has always launched with cutting edge graphics, so i'm sure the next will be a showcase.
I feel like once Guerilla realized that the vast majority of people sympathized with the helghast, and the helghast being a very on the nose particular collection of real world references, that realization scared them from ever wanting to pick it up again. Killzone 3 really came off as a deliberate attempt to get people to dislike the helghast with far less nuanced written characters seen in 2. Instead replaced with cartoonish villains. Despite even that people still liked the helghast over the ISA.
I really don't care for FPS games, but I really enjoyed KZ2's multiplayer (campaign was fun too, but the multiplayer was just good, mad fun).
I would say they might want to try to get Bluepoint to remake KZ2 OR let Bungie develop a live service KZ. Why not do some kind of Destiny x KZ collaboration that balances both universes? Could be interesting.
At the very least a remastered collection along side Resistance and the InFamous. It's just strange how they want to forget about or not even acknowledge at all at times about PS2 and 3 Gen games.
Man I fucking loved Killzone, but they really dropped the ball with the story tbh. Still, I definitely wouldn't mind a revival.
I think Sony should hand this over to bungie and say you remember Halo? Do that again with killzone.
I want them to bring this series back so bad, but with the multiplayer style of KZ2. That was so much fun, and I tend to hate FPS. Shadow Fall had an interesting ending though. I'm sure I'm one of the few that actually liked the game.... I also want M.A.G. to come back too lol
It'll be great for Sony to convince their studios to bring back Killzone & the Resistance games. Infamous should make a return as well.
Killzone was a fantastic series. Loved the campaigns, and the mp for 2 & 3 were fantastic! Loved the weighty feel of the guns. Shadowfall deserved more credit than it got. That said, they changed up the mp entirely and it never really hooked me.
Guerilla needs to rebirth the Killzone universe... or have they already?!
Anyone else think there is a connection to the Horizon universe? Didn't an "ark" or two leave earth to escape pre-Zero Dawn? Anyone recall Killzone's brief origin story?
It'd be pretty sweet if Guerilla story-merged these two ips.
If they put some care and thought into a gritty, dark campaign that's well written with an improved version KZ2 multiplayer would be a massive hit. KillZone V for the PS5 could be a monster but we can only imagine now.
The Amsterdam-based studio reflects on its humble beginnings, beloved franchises, and growth through the years.
Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.
Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!
I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.
man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!
32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III
One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.
https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...
So not a drop off.
Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?
It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.
lol you are comparing:
HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)
HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)
We will see if it surpass original number.
@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years
Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself
Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.
I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.
Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.
The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.
They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.
I was never a huge fan of Killzone, but thoroughly enjoy Horizon. Guerrilla are superb developer and easily up there with the best of the best.
Great studio, loved the Killzone series, I wish they would do a remake of the first three games. Horizon is a real step up and truly put Guerrilla Games on the map.
Too bad I never got a chance to play Shellshock: Nam’67 would have loved to try that game out back in the days to see what were their beginnings.
It would fantastic to see what they could do in Killzone after the lessons learned through Horizon.
Or heck, give us even a short linear FPS from the people who designed Cauldron THETA in the Burning Shores expansion. Even just flying into it (after gliding around and finding its opening amongst the lava and Sunwings perched around it, with other bigger machines just along the path toward it) was an incredible experience.
I would guess they will at some point toward the end or beginning of next gen. Sony has expanded their studios to have multiple teams.
They know new IP needs to be added after a 2-3 games in a series and can have one team work on sequels and another on a new IP.
But new IPs are risky and I’m sure some don’t make it to release as they shouldn’t of they aren’t good instead of saying F it we are releasing it anyway. Sometimes games just don’t work out.
But Sony had the best track record with new Ip even their worst new IP last however long was a really good game , Days Gone it just had some bugs in the beginning
Days gone is one of my favourite games of last gen. Shame it won't continue. I think it was politically driven to cancel a sequel. I've noticed most of Sony 1st party going the route of political correctness so I think the shade of the white gruff male protagonist hit them hard.
Forbidden West is awesome, It’s pretty damn big compared to Zero Dawn and it takes a little while to get your skills up and get the equipment you need to fully explore the game (not going to spoil it) but once you do those things and start fighting the big ass machines it really is amazing. Some cool side quests to where you hold the fate of peoples lives by your choice and the cauldrons look amazing. Lots of skills , combos, special moves and add ons for your weapons so you can approach fights many ways. Looking forward to the name game but I wonder how/if Silas will be a part of it or not ? Sad he’s gone.
I'm hyped for whenever Horizon 3 releases but Killzone 1 needs a remake BAD and 2 & 3 need remasters. Criminal those games are stuck on PS3.
Hold up
Horizon: Zero Dawn sold 24.3 million
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sold 29.81 million
With the way journalists have been consistently saying BotW overshadowed Horizon you’d think the gap between an entry in a new IP and a longrunning one would be bigger Even if you want to include however much the Wii U version of BotW did, both series still did impressive numbers
I never want to hear that Horizon is an overlooked franchise ever again
While i love horizon way more than breath of the wild(wasn't for me) if they counted dollars made the gap would be way bigger as Horizon base was 9.99 and Complete edition was 19.99 on sale as soon as 2018.
I think Breath of the wild was maybe 40-50 at some points for a short period.
i really loved the atmosphere and idea of killzone. i hope they revisit it at some point because it always had so much potential.
Funny, I saw the video but didn't even notice the box art referred to Killzone.
I just have eye of an eagle:)
i want to fart in a jar and send it to microsoft charging them for breathing in a pre owned fart
This box art looks pretty good.
Also, LOL at the sharing games instructional! It made me choke! Sony is dick-slapping Microsoft left and right. So much humor from Sony. :)
My only issue with this game is it is going to over shadow the PSV KZ game later this year and because of that I don't see the PSV KZ selling very well.
The game looks great though and im sure it will be another sold KZ game for the PS.
