Xbox One will not support Xbox 360 controllers

Xbox 360 controllers will not be compatible with the newly announced Xbox One, Microsoft's corporate vice president Phil Spencer told Polygon at the company's unveiling event in Redmond.

well of ##### course it wont, its not even bc lol.

Mariusmssj3991d ago

I'm not sure what to think, it all depends on how much it will cost to buy additional Xbox One controllers

DarkBlood3991d ago

i guess that factor in whos in your home or if its freinds they could bring thiers over assuming those controllers arent unique in any way

Evil_Ryu3992d ago

You aint talking about nintendo....obviously!!!!!!!!

Terrific. ANYMORE BAD NEWS?!

Outside_ofthe_Box3992d ago (Edited 3992d ago )

Not that this is good news, but is it really a big deal that it won't support 360 controllers?

@below they also have the infrared LED that allows the Xbox to recognize the player. So I'm guessing that's the main reason why 360 controllers aren't compatible.

HyperBear3992d ago

Well...considering there are absolutely no changes to the button/input layouts, it is kind of downer. They didn't add anything new to the controller or take away anything from the 360 controller, they just redesigned it and added some more rumble and moved the Xbox button to the top.

It's not a big deal, just an inconvenience.

ApolloTheBoss3992d ago (Edited 3992d ago )

No, I don't care for it. I'm just emphasizing the fact that there has been NOTHING but negative facts from Microsoft all day. It's pretty funny, too: Nothing but good news on Sony's end, yet nothing but bad news on Micosoft's. it's like some kind of Yin/Yang vibe to keep the balance in order. LOL

I like having 4 controllers for my consoles, so yeah, for me it's somewhere between a 150$-200$ extra investment.

For most people it's not a big deal though.

ziggurcat3992d ago (Edited 3992d ago )

there's no reason why it should, really...

why would people even come to the conclusion that older peripherals would work on newer tech?

the DS3 doesn't work with the PS4, nor did the PS2 dualshock even work with the PS3/xbox controller work with the X360... the entitlement this generation spews at every corner is unbelievable.

MitchellK3992d ago (Edited 3992d ago )

You were able to use the dualshock 2 on the ps3... You had to buy a $10 adapter, but it worked.

Tetsujin3992d ago

PS1 and 2 controllers worked on each console, I remember when the PS2 first came out we used to use PS1 controllers and leave the 2 controllers in the plastic until we needed them; Sony even stated the Move controllers now will work on the PS4, however with the way the DS4 works with the PS4 it makes sense why they won't work. With the 360 and "One" unless there's something I missed design-wise I don't see why they would make you buy new controllers.
