I love how this thread is over 150` with no comments. XD

Pokemon is a cool game/idea folks.

If you play it to its depths, there's probably not a more 'hardcore' game out there. Nothing to be ashamed of if you like it. No reason to be a jerk about it if you don't.

Just because the little critters are designed in a light hearted way, and there is no blood doesn't make it a kids game. It's a game for everyone to play and enjoy at the level that they individually are ready for.

I'm excited about X and Y, 3D, the new typing, the ability to ride pokemon, etc. It's gonna be great!

Chapkatsu4002d ago

Yeah, only really a few years ago did I realise the true depths it goes to via a friend. When he first told me about stuff like Smogon Strategies I didn't believe him...And consequently got my ass kicked.

And yet the game is still infinitely playable by children. I think it really hits a sweet spot very little else has managed.

I still haven't got a 3DS, though I'll definitely be getting one for these games.

SilentNegotiator4002d ago (Edited 4002d ago )

Why are you going off about 'haters' when you're the first comment? Are you TRYING to stir something up? How often do you ACTUALLY see people attacking Pokemon as a strictly kid's game?

TruthbeTold4002d ago

When I made the comment, this story was at 160 degrees with no comments.

It's a common theme with Pokemon threads.

A lot of people like Pokemon, but apparently have to be afraid that they do because the negative comments always pop up.

I commented on that. I set the tone. I didn't use the word 'haters' at all, as I was careful with my wording.

In fact, there was no negativity here at all until you came in 'stirring something up'.

Good grief. What is your problem?

SilentNegotiator4002d ago (Edited 4002d ago )

It is NOT a "common theme" in Pokemon threads. Not on N4G. Pokemon article comment sections are overwhelmingly positive. N4G likes pokemon.

You get some comments about the newer pokemon DESIGNS a lot, but not negative comments about the games themselves.

"Good grief. What is your problem?"

People who OPEN up comment threads to negative backlash by going into defensive mode where there's no need.

You could have just said "I love pokemon; it's great that people of all ages enjoy pokemon. I'm excited about X and Y, 3D, the new typing, the ability to ride pokemon, etc. It's gonna be great!" instead of ranting about haters that aren't there. It's like going into an Uncharted article and starting with a comment that goes on about how people say that it's not for everyone and there's 'no reason to be a jerk' about it.

There is a single MILDLY negative comment about "nickel and diming experiences", but it's from a person that also first said "Gonna be sweet"

RbwNjaFurret4001d ago (Edited 4001d ago )

Really? I see it on literally every Pokémon article I think I've ever read. Where have you been? :P

HexxedAvenger4002d ago

I sure can't wait for this game! I'm looking forward to riding Pokemon. If I can ride an Arcani e, I would be happy! Lol

TruthbeTold4002d ago

Ha ha. That was the first thing I thought of when I heard about the riding mechanic. Arcanine. Gonna be sweet.

Chapkatsu4002d ago

I'm hoping for other Pokémon to ride, but judging from the translation, it might just be Gogoat, and in Miare City =/

TruthbeTold4002d ago

Well they do love to nickel and dime us on new experiences until they catch on. A lot of people want customizable characters, and now we get it, but it's pretty much limited to male/female, 3 skin tones, and 3 hair colors. lol

Chapkatsu4002d ago

True, and sadly enough the default Male character looked the closest to me anyway. I see what you mean though, this is a good first step to riding other things if it is just Gogoat.

I just want to know when they are going to bring back the following thing from SS/HG

Lockon4002d ago

I wish I had a 3DS to play these...Hopefully theres a 3DS emulator >_>

HexxedAvenger4002d ago

It won't be out until, I believe, October. Why not save some pennies? :3

Dj7FairyTail4002d ago (Edited 4002d ago )

not possible. 3DS is hard to emulate.

It more powerful than Wii, Xbox, GC, PSP, PS2 and so on.

Lockon4002d ago

I see why you have one bubble.

ABizzel14002d ago

Power has nothing to do with emulation, it's system architecture. The more difficult / different the hardware is from a standard PC the harder it is to emulate example PS2 and PS3. The 3DS uses mobile components so it won't be nearly as hard to emulate. When running emulators the your PC CPU has to be powerful enough to run the emulator, but also run it as if was the console itself due to the difference in CPU architecture.

And on a side note the 3DS is not more powerful than the Wii, but on par with the last-gen consoles. It has newer hardware (specifically GPU) that let's it take advantage of things like better lighting, particle effects, and models, which makes games it's games look great on the small screen, but when it comes to RAW numbers no it's not more powerful.

They're better off making another gba game, selling it with a gba or something. It's like they are not even aware their recent games are like 3 generations behind others in terms of every aspect.

TheEnigma313467d ago

As long as they get the sales, they don't care. Welcome to the Nintendo brand.

TheEnigma313467d ago

@RPGer

Apple is definitely up there with the worst offenders.

DFresh467d ago

I’ve honestly stopped following this series after Sinnoh League.
Still love Pokémon just can’t follow the new games and anime after that.
Johto League will forever be my favorite.

Double_O_Revan467d ago

The game is very empty and lifeless. I'm not really having much fun with it and I'm almost done the game. Mechanically, its great. So many quality of life improvements. Technically, it's an embarrassment. The further you progress into the game, the worse the frame rate gets. The giant Lake and the Snowy Mountains are awful. There no part of the story I find interesting. Just the usual 'collect 8 badges and go to the Pokemon league.' I hope the criticism is a wake up call for their next entry. But I'm certain it won't be. It sold well, and that's all that matters to them.

phoenixwing467d ago

It didn't just sell well. It's one of the top selling games of all time for the switch. So yeah, I wouldn't expect much to change next iteration.

sadraiden467d ago

On one hand, the Pokemon franchise is doing exactly what every Nintendo franchise does: roughly the same thing every game. It's why Nintendo IPs have such strong public awareness. You know Mario is the jumpy one, Metroid is the spooky maze one, and Pokemon is the dog fighting one.

Pokemon unfortunately is the one that has the weakest mechanics and most outdated presentation. It's like a challenge GF takes on every development cycle to see if they can make their next game only marginally different than the last with no big innovations. Pokemon fans still line up in droves to buy the latest. Chalk it up to kids being inexperienced and wanting a colorful game with friendly looking creatures. Adults on the other hand, at this point, if you're complaining about Pokemon games feeling empty and lifeless, it's because they are. Play a real JRPG.

McKraka465d ago

@sadraiden

I'm quite partial to the team building and management mechanics as well as evolution of the creatures captured.

Can you recommend some JRPG titles that have a similar vibe? Other than Shin Megami Tensai?

sadraiden467d ago

Lol a world building problem? At this point the Pokemon franchise is all but transparently creatively bankrupt. It's only ever been about separating children from their parents cash. Gotta catch em all being one of the greatest marketing slogans of all time.

Making Pokémon 3D Was A Mistake

Pokémon’s shift to 3D was a big mistake, as the series’ roots in 2D design make it difficult to transfer important game mechanics into a 3D overworld.

why do other games pull off 3D monster collecting JRPG games just fine? Look at Jade Cocoon and Shin Megami Tensei for examples.

Answer should be obvious.

No other videogame franchise is as merchandise driven as Pokémon

For Arceus' Sake, Give Game Freak More Time to Make Pokemon Games

The development time Game Freak currently has to make Pokemon games is unsustainable, and one major change needs to be made to fix the issue.

Indeed. They make enough money to afford it...but they won't...

-Foxtrot519d ago

I'd rather they give it to a new developer who can actually give us what we want and more without relying on as many silly little gimmicks as they can for marketing purposes.

LucasRuinedChildhood519d ago (Edited 519d ago )

Let's be honest, nothing is going to change because they know they can get away with it.

They clearly already have - they've sold 10m+ at full price (faster than Arceus) and in spite of all the issues, it still has decent reviews (76%). They'll probably gross $1b+ off this game, on top of all the money they made from Arceus.

People have been complaining about the handling of this franchise for years but it's a cash cow (they made billions off Pokemon Go as well). To them, this is very much sustainable, unfortunately.

Number1TailzFan519d ago (Edited 519d ago )

Trash series. The combat in these games is extremely boring too, Custom Robo Arena is far better, and for turn based the Worms games on PC.

Immagaiden518d ago

Every new gen comes out every 3 years and with more ambitious ideas it just isn’t sustainable

Pokémon demonstrates how being so merchandise driven is proving detrimental to the main product, and despite that it still sells well
