Top 10 Film Adaptations of Games

Games and film have been popular forms of entertainment for a long time, so it’s not a surprise that the two collided many times over (often with hideous consequences). Here we look at the top 10 film adaptations of games and a couple of franchises that didn’t even break into the top 10.

The picture of the Hitman movie looks fake.

video games are not the only ones to get it wrong. There are movies adapted from tv shows that are just as offending.

To me, the only movie that did the series any justice was the 1st xfiles movie. It blended in between 2 seasons of the show. The movie filled in the gap that shows generally take.

You pretty much had to watch the movie for the next season opener to make sense.

Now there is a flip side as well. how about games adapted from movies??? Trying to expand a storyline or gameplay to exceed the initial length of the film can be tough to do.

I'd say there are WAY more games based off movies than there are movies based off games.

@JamesSterling87

It just looks like a fake trailer on YouTube for some reason.

@darthv72

I'm not saying it's offending, I don't even know anything about Hitman other than it's a video game...and now that it got a film adaption.

blackbirdi4054d ago

Most of them sucks. Just One or two movies where okay

darthv724054d ago

is trying to convey what amounts to several hours worth of story and gameplay into something that is roughly 2 hours long.

Now moves based off games is not a bad idea but they are just bad at trying to make everything fit into one movie.

I'd say, if the studios were really committed to making a movie based of a game they would span it over the course of at least 2 maybe 3 films. They dont have to fit everything from a game into 1 movie. Especially if the game is a series like uncharted or doom.

although, the only redeeming part of the doom movie was when it went all first person there towards the end. I have to admit that was classic if in a funny interpretation of the game.

@dartv72

That first person segment was pretty memorable for me too. Waaay over done but it's nice that they put it in. Probably the one aspect of the film that I'd ever revisit.

Silent Hill is a decent enough film. I've yet to see if the sequel lives up to it though...

The best game based on a film for me is The Warriors. Ace film with a cracking soundtrack which made for a near perfect game. Hats off to Rockstar for respectfully introducing The Warriors to a younger generation. Warriors, come out to plaaaaeeey!

Max Payne is a terrible adaption, dam that left a bad taste in my mouth

Sleazypants4053d ago

I really wanted it to be good. I guess like all film adaptations of games, i should have known better!

Hitman movie isn't that bad same goes with the Silent hill movie.

dead or alive movie is actually pretty much what the games consist about expect in terms of "proportions" of course that movie is alright as well.

SamPao4054d ago

I enjoyed Hitman a lot, I actually watched it like 5 times already! its a great movie

JoySticksFTW4054d ago

Mortal Kombat is still the best imo

It was the perfect video game movie, because it didn't try to run from it's roots.

Simple story and great action.

Even Raiden's casting couldn't spoil it

I mean Christopher Lambert was the man in Highlander, but I had doubts as Raiden. He turned out to be funny though.

darthv724054d ago

he would have played a better shang tsung from the way they made him look. But obviously his accent was not the right fit for a shang tsung type of character.

when i think of Raiden i think of the guy from Big trouble in little china.

e-p-ayeaH4054d ago

Big Trouble in Little China had a lot of influence in many games during the early 90´s.

One of my personal favorite movies.

Fallout 4's 'next gen' update is over 14 gigs, breaks modded saves, & doesn't change much at all

We were expecting problems with mod support, but there are a lot of other issues.

isarai6h ago

Wow what the actual hell 🤣🤣🤣

just_looken6h ago

This is why you get the GOG version on gog you can select the version of the game to download.

On pc fallout 4 fallout new vegas and skyrim are all broken on steam because they all got the same "next gen" update.

Skyrim dec 2023
https://www.pcgamer.com/sky...

Can not find new vegas but anyone that modded it knows the script extender there was also broken

Valkyrye4h ago

Not accidental, they want modders to stop modding their older games to force them to mod Shitfield.

just_looken2h ago

There doing the same on starfield with a mods store and blocking mods

There goal is like blizzard and what they did with fallout 76 you make mods they can sell and you become a slave.

On skyrim they have "trusted" mod devs now basically a badge that lets your mod on the store you get a crumb of the sale when someone buys it.

Inverno1h ago

lol to the disagrees, the last Skyrim update broke mods too. They've been trying to kill mods to monetize them in creation club for years, it's not a stretch that they purposely put out patches just to break free mods.

Chocoburger44m ago

Over 14 GBs and doesn't change much at all? What? Taking up that much drive space for a pathetic 'remastering' is shameful.

Par for Bethesda.
