PlayStation 4's Share Button is More Than Just a Button

Social networking is ubiquitous, yet the game industry (an inherently social industry) hasn’t embraced the concept. The PlayStation 4 might change all that.

Share button will be awesome. From the looks of it, the quality of the videos that are uploaded using the share button are really good! I never wanted to shell down 200$ for a capture card so this feature will be awesome.

That is indeed an awesome feature, I have a capture video card and record my gaming and love it, but I'm wondering if there's a time limit like you can only upload 30 secs at the time or something similar.

Either way that is a very welcome feature :-)

this is still all rumors but ive heard you can record up 15 minutes... but who knows yet... i think its cool you can stream online too! i cant wait !!! :)

The share button is amazing , truly a genius idea. Only Sony could come up with such an original idea that will push the industry forward so much. Oh but I fully expect Microsoft and Nintendo to try and rip it off like usual.

Technically they all " rip each other off" ....... It's called Advancements in Console Gaming...and any company would be stupid to ignore them.

From analog sticks, to disc based medium, to online networks, to touch controllers, to share buttons etc.......all advances eventually followed by other companies

You do know the Wii U has the share functionality(photos for now & as I hear there going to be video sharing later on) .. let's not get too fanboyish here,I'll give credit to Sony for giving us such a great feature,but saying that others are gonna copy it giving the idea that this is something totally new is just .. false !

I can't wait to see how the new Fight Night and other sports games come into play. With the share button I could livestream me and someone playing while others comment. The competition is going to be extreme!

I thought the same thing, currently playing Madden 13 connected careers and it would be nice to stream the playoffs and Super Bowl to the other members......oh well, wait for PS4 I guess...

.I hope they Show some next gen sports games at E3, what's a new console launch without them

OnLive has a record button. Press it and it records your gameplay and automatically uploads it onto Facebook. You can turn the automatic upload off if you want to though. While it's great Sony is implementing this feature, they were clearly not the first.

My apologies for not knowing this! I had heard of it being implemented somewhere first, but I couldn't find where so I didn't include that bit in the article. Still, OnLive was well ahead of its time in many respects and the console guys are just now playing catch-up. Sony is the first company to execute this to a worldwide audience is what I should have said.

No problem, it's hard to miss OnLive when they have such a small following. Looking at Sony's presentation it seems many of the features touted were pulled directly from OnLive. Spectating, live game streaming, share button, gameplay recording, gameplay commenting, trialing any game, and cloud gaming in general were all staples in the OnLive platform for over 2 years now. Even the "take over your friend's controller" feature was being discussed and tested by OnLive but unfortunately they never released that feature on their platform. Don't get me wrong, I think it's awesome that Sony is implementing these features and I hope Microsoft does too (I love using them!) but it really goes to show you just how far ahead and innovative OnLive really is!

It's just a button which can only mean one thing...

You can press it by accident when you're playing on multiplayer or something and get owned by a button...

Unless you can choose to disable it... If so, touché Sony.

I'm gonna share every boring walking/mundane task section of my playthroughs in games, just because everyone else will share the exciting stuff, gonna go after the unsaturated, untapped market.

i seen the presentation live....and yeah..i dont find nothing future proof sharing a video of what u r playing...

we will have fb or youtube..or whatever...full of noob that end ..games that r made to be end....

i understand to stream some competitive game ala "league of legends"....but ...the rest..is just gimmick

A button that I find completely pointless. I play games for myself not for others.

I also love how the people defending this are saying its not a gimmick when the wiiverse sharing, tips and reviews are a huge gimmick. Funny how hypocritical fanboys can get. I can see this being useful for some people but there is a large group of gamers who could careless about there system spamming Facebook about there most recent trophy.

True, but again, you probably don't play multiplayer either (assumedly). Gaming is by-and-large a tailored experience, and many gamers prefer to brag about their game accomplishments instead of salivating in the greatness alone. Just saying that it leaves a breadth of options for everyone.
