7 PlayStation Vita Games That Break the Portable Gaming Mold

Forbes - As Vita delivers the long promised reality of console gaming on the go, it signals the end of second-tier portable versions of big franchises.

-Mezzo-4149d ago

But the media told me, Vita has no games and it's Doomed.

Spenok4148d ago

Not always. They can be misleading at times. But yeah, your right for the most part lol.

Killzoner994148d ago

The media is trying to destroy Sony.

Mounce4148d ago

They have been trying to 'destroy' ever since 2006.

No one dared to attack Sony during the PS2 streak last generation, now these days since their heads are so far up their ass with the 'Oh how the mighty have fallen' they think it reasonable and fun to jab at a company that is still there, but the pettiness that they wish a company dies or goes bankrupt simply because of irrational, emotional bias and illogical hatred.

Fanboyism and favoritism, bias..... the traits of humans I will loathe the most.

MmaFan-Qc4148d ago (Edited 4148d ago )

the experts also told us that the ps3 had no games and it was doomd.

they also told us that the bluray would fail because most peoples dont want hdtvs and they will stick with their dvd players.

thoses expert are wayyyyyy too badass to share their ultimate virtue with us, the futile insignifiant beings.

PopRocks3594149d ago

I do like the cutesy look of New Little King's story, but I'm not sure it's a good idea to cite some of the other games listed. AC:Liberation is not something I'm interested in and Need For Speed, FIFA, Uncharted and Little Big Planet already have iterations on the PS3, in some cases cheaper ones.

PLEASE don't assume I am trying to hate this platform. I really do think the Vita is a good piece of hardware. I just want some newer and better content before I justify my purchase. Maybe this satisfies other gamers, but not me. And it isn't because I don't want to; I just don't think it satisfies my taste right now. Give me more games like Tearaway, or basically anything I CAN'T play on my PS3, maybe throw in a price drop on the memory cards and I'll definitely be picking one up.

Godchild10204149d ago (Edited 4149d ago )

You don't think it's a good idea to cite some of the games because, one, you are not interested in one of them and two, because you can find some of them already on the PS3? This article is not just for you, it's for everyone looking into getting a Vita or those that have a Vita that wants to see what is available to them on the platform. Also, some of these games are a lot more fun to play on the go or just on portable devices, then they are when played on the PS3.

While, I do agree some of them should have never been cited; like Fifa, that doesn't change anything or improve anything from the first one that was released. The Vita does have a good share of notable titles, so I don't know why they listed Fifa. They could've replaced it with Rayman or Unit 13. Those games are great on the go and fit the portable platform better than they do, on the home console. IMO

I don't understand how some people can have double standards. It's okay for one console to have content that can be found on one console, but not okay for another? This is just a general statement and not directed towards you (PopRocks359).

Also, why do you mention, people shouldn't assume you hate the Vita? People will do it anyway, based on what you say about it or any other console. Second thing is, have you played any of those game that can be found on the PS3 on the Vita? Some of them are more enjoyable on the go, then just being stationed in the house. If you played them already, then there is a little point in getting them again.

Also, there are some hidden gems in the PSN store for the Vita, that can't be found on the PS3 or that is cross Platform with the PS3, but better on the Vita. I agree, if the Vita has a price drop and they bundled a 4GB card, they would be selling better and it would appeal better to the consumer.

PopRocks3594148d ago

"This article is not just for you"

I never said it was. I just gave my two cents on it.

"Also, why do you mention, people shouldn't assume you hate the Vita?"

For the simple fact that I don't. I don't think that's a difficult concept to grasp.

"Also, there are some hidden gems in the PSN store for the Vita"

As with any platform, but those aren't the system sellers; the big GO-TO games, if you will. If this list was really about providing a list of the really great stuff, they wouldn't have bothered listing games like FIFA and instead showed everything, including games you would have to download.

I mean come on, two indie downloadable games walked away with many of the GOTY awards. It's not exactly unreasonable to list digital titles as reasons to buy a new platform.

Godchild10204148d ago (Edited 4148d ago )

This is not to start any bad blood or argument; I just want to post some of the flaws that I see in your comment.

"I never said it was. I just gave my two cents on it."

That's the way it comes off. Just read you comment again. Just because majority of those games have iterations on another platform, that doesn't they don't bring something new to the table and not make it the same game that I played on another? Just because they are from the same franchise, that doesn't make it the same game nor does it mean it doesn't have a place it be cited. Until you play either game on the Vita or a portable device, I don’t think your "two cents" are required. You don't even say anything beyond that it doesn't interest you are they can be found on another platform. The two cents that would have helped would have been, what the game does the same or different that makes it not have a place to be cited on this article. Also, why mention a game doesn't interest you, without saying why? Which goes to you saying you like the Vita, but your response before it, gives off something complete different.

It's your choice to comment and leave detail as you please and I know I can't change how you comment. I know we all do it, but I feel like your comment left an open door for discussion.

"For the simple fact that I don't. I don't think that's a difficult concept to grasp."

I don't hate the any system, but I don't add that I like any system in every one of my comments when I say something bad about them. All I'm saying why does it matter if people think you hate X system? (General Statement)No one cares if you like the system, if you say something bad about it, in majority of the articles you comment on, people tend to take the bad of what you say and spin it.

It not a difficult concept to grasp, it's just hard to care or believe when you make comments like that. This could just be me and that's why I'm mentioning it.

"If this list was really about providing a list of the really great stuff, they wouldn't have bothered listing games like FIFA"

That is my point and that is an issue with the writer of the article. The fact that he listed a title that can only be found in the PSN store, here in North America, is an issue with him not playing or know about a lot of the games or the fact that he believes these are the only games of 2012 that really do "Break the Portable Gaming Mold." I'm sure everyone here will have a different opinion.

G20WLY4148d ago

Poprocks359, I think you're missing the point of the article; it lists those games to demonstrate that we don't have to expect scaled down versions when gaming on a handheld anymore, thanks to Vita.

It's not necessarily a list of system sellers or the best games available for the system. It doesn't matter that you can get some of them on PS3. In fact, that's the very point the article is making; for example NFS on Vita doesn't have less cars or modes, it's exactly the same experience. :)

Genuine-User4148d ago

Comment towards PopRock359,

So you don't want a handheld because it provides iterations of a home console game. Almost every handheld in the history of handhelds have done that my friend.
Don't you like Mario or Zelda on your handheld?

Uncharted Golden Abyss is a prequel to the first Uncharted on PS3. You can't play it on your PS3.
Gravity Rush, Unit 13, Little Big Planet Vita, Super Stardust Delta, Big Sky Infinity, Virtues Last Reward, Assassins Creed III Liberation, Disgaea 3, Escape Plan, Little Deviants, Lumies: Electronic Symphony, Modnation Racers: Road trip, New little kings Story, Resistance Burning Skies, Silent Hill Book of Memories and Tales from space Mutant Blob Attack are not playable on PS3.

PopRocks3594148d ago (Edited 4148d ago )

Double post. Sorry.

PopRocks3594148d ago

I don't think you're understanding the context of what I'm saying. I don't want experiences I can get on my PS3. In other words, I don't really care for PS3 ports or an Uncharted game. Don't get me wrong, Uncharted is a good series, but it won't make me run out to get a Vita.

"Don't you like Mario or Zelda on your handheld?"

Okay, this implies all Mario and Zelda games are the same, which is the farthest thing from the truth. They're no more monotonous than the Ratchet & Clank and Halo series.

You can only play Super Mario 3D Land, Resident Evil Revelations, Kingdom Hearts 3D, Mario Kart 7 and other such games on the 3DS. That's why I bought one. Those games interest me.

Gravity Rush and Tearaway are also what I'm interested in. I'm still waiting for more content that I think looks cool.

But it really doesn't matter anyway. Obviously it doesn't matter what I say or how respectfully I attempt to write my comments; this community continues to prove time and time again that sharing ANY adverse thoughts about a Sony product as well as any positive ones for Nintendo is only going to result in petty feuds as well as awkward analyses of my comment language.

Persona 4 picture makes me want to get the Vita, those girls are so cute. I have never played a Persona game.

The vita is a great system but don't know why it doesn't love from people

user9470314149d ago (Edited 4149d ago )

Idk I got a disagree for no reason : / Now its two : /

Cam9774149d ago

Uncharted is one even if Chapter 11 is ridiculous in Crushing mode. Another great title is the MGS:HD trilogy and LBP - a game I have recently invested in, it cost me £13 for a digital copy from eBay; so far I'm loving it, it certainly proves itself to be a well made Vita title.

Microsoft once tried to nab LittleBigPlanet from Sony after a few drinks

It turns out that many moons ago, Microsoft once had its eye on the Sony published LittleBigPlanet series.

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow4d ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo1823d ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie2d ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

Xbox executive Sara Bond has told Axios that Microsoft spent a number of years trying to get MLB The Show onto Xbox consoles. And when it finally succeeded in breaking off PlayStation’s long-held exclusivity, the company had to “trust” Sony with pre-release Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Bond revealed that MLB The Show “always came up” in conversations between Microsoft and the Major League Baseball organization. “We always said, ‘We love this game. It would be a huge opportunity to bring it to Xbox.'” she recalled. However, when Microsoft’s efforts materialized, it put the company in an awkward situation where it had to send in pre-release consoles to a rival company.

Lying to yourself is unbecoming.

Article link tells you all you need to know in Sarah Bond's own words.

Hereandthere2d ago

They were too cheap/inept/lazy to develop their own mlb game, so they port begged for years and bribed the mlb to make the show multiplatform. Like i said many times, xbox brought nothing to the table their 24 years, ZERO.

ApocalypseShadow2d ago

At least you and others get it. Note drank the Kool aid and asked for seconds thinking it was refreshing.

Most don't even know how it all played out but it's there in black and white for all to see. Microsoft brought it up for years until the MLB forced Sony's hand. It was a win win for Microsoft. Kill one reason to buy a PlayStation or kill the game by dropping it in a cheap service to kill Sony's sales numbers on PlayStation.

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

Cockney1d 19h ago

They chose well, Sony gave them the backing to pursue their dreams with no restrictions even tho their games especially dreams have very niche appeal. Media molecule and Sony deserve respect for this in an age of risk averse publishing.

RNTody3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Inverno3d ago

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Inverno3d ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.

2d ago
fsfsxii2d ago

They shutdown the servers because no one was playing, no one in the community cared about the user created levels so why keep them up? Wtf you guys would never succeed in running a business.

Inverno2d ago

Yea dood no one was playing so they shut off the servers. Cause people with enough common sense can't just Google why they were actually shut of, right?
