I was moderately interested in this game before...but now, not so much. MP in a TR game is 100% unnecessary and just plain dumb. The inclusion of MP means $$ and time was sacrificed on the SP portion...which is beyond stupid when you're attempting to reboot a franchise. Some franchises just need to stick to SP, for the good of the final product. It's ridiculous to think anyone is going to give this MP more than a casual glance, with all of the FPS juggernauts monopolizing that space.

Amplitude4131d ago (Edited 4131d ago )

What?
Sorry im pretty sure everybody said the same thing about Uncharted 2.

Im also pretty sure Uncharted 2 had a ridiculously amazing single player campaign without any sacrifices and the multiplayer aspect was surprisingly well done.

Sp1d3ynut4131d ago

I'm pretty sure Uncharted 2 wasn't an attempt to reboot a dead franchise. Not to mention, that's a 1st party exclusive...NOT a game that's being released on at least 3 different platforms...all with completely different online makeups. If you don't think this will be a buggy mess, and a complete waste of resources, you're in for a rude awakening.

Kurt Russell4131d ago (Edited 4131d ago )

Yeah, because all multiplats have bad MP right?.. Oh wait. No.

Root4130d ago (Edited 4130d ago )

Can you people stop bringing Uncharted 2 into this

It worked for Uncharted 2 because

1) ND are talented developers

2) They had finished the entire game, had time left and just threw it in there. It's why U2's is better then U3's.

3) It works for that type of game. Uncharted is an action/adventure game. Tomb Raider is supposed to be about survival and the origin of Lara Croft. I can't see Lara run around fiering from the hip with an AK, throwing grenades about while getting into cover.

4) They were already up to their second game, Tomb Raider hasn't even had the first game come out yet

GROTSTOMPA4130d ago

Yep, sorry I agree with the others and myself.. there are many games that have done both MP and SP exceptionally well.. to the point they were amazing and still are.

There is no excuse for a bad single-player game because of the multi-player, or any other extra content, that's purely the developers fault, and not the most common. Companies like EA, or Activision use bad business practices like this, but that's certainly only 2-5 companies out of the several hundred out there that know how to develop both sides properly in their games by using patience and not having MONEY strategies as the focus of the game. So I kindly disagree with you out of my own personal 20 years of gaming exp. and witnessing great MP & SP myself.

Tomb Raider is welcomed to have a great multiplayer along side, it has a crazy amount of potential, especially for PC players, we don't have very many 3rd person games aside from MMO's-(different genre) that are equal in scale to any of the Uncharted series, or God of War Series for example (Max Payne 3 doesn't count as the multi-player did not do well on PC). As a hardcore PC gamer, I want an awesome 3rd person game to play online and this could be it, you never know.

animegamingnerd4131d ago

something tells me this game is going to have a online pass crap like that really makes me hate this gen and have no hope for the next

League_of_Draven4131d ago

So now they can have crappy multiplayer in their already crappy single player. This game looks nothing like Tomb Raider and that's already obvious especially with the regenerating health, lack of swimming, and solving puzzles with magic vision. Someone should've told them that it's pointless to reboot a franchise if you're going to make it just as bad (if not worse) than the recent games.

RedDeadLB4130d ago

Why must multiplayer pollute every modern game? I don't mind if it's done properly, but mostly multiplayer nowadays is just imitating other games and doing a poor job at it. There is no innovation in multiplayer anymore. Just doing what other developers do.

Root4130d ago (Edited 4130d ago )

"survivors have to collect a certain amount of med-packs"

Why...they don't eve use then anyway

Regenerating Health remember...even despite it being a survival game where med packs would of been a great edition.

"But of course comes back to say that after playing it feels the “creation and execution are coming from the right place.”"

A reviewer defending something he's writting for....wow I'm so shocked /s

"different stats and loadouts"

and they've killed it....why can't we find our own weapons on the map. I hate loadouts they are so cheap, they ruin online games. Let me guess it's going to have every other online multiplayer gimmicks. Uncharted 2 was great then they added them in U3 and it sucked.

I do agree that Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness was the worse one 😂 I remember playing some of it and I took it back. That game was just awful in every way. I bought it used at gamestop and glad they had that 7 day return policy for used games 😂

Pyrofire9561d ago

Would it be worth saying why?

ZeekQuattro61d ago

Simple. He's been hating on the Tomb Raider reboots for years. I can't imagine seeing them at the top of a best TR game list let alone being on the list in general sitting well with him because of it.

-Foxtrot61d ago

Zeek

“Hating”

No no, just pointing out how TR mutated into a generic action adventure game losing the appeal of what it once was when it was more about puzzles and platforming over going Rambo, slaughtering waves of enemies

But hey, continue being a dick and speaking about me like I’m not going to see the comment.

MeatyUrologist60d ago

Foxtrot, I'm curious if you have played the most recent games. Sure the 2013 reboot was hugely focused on combat, but each follow up became less and less about combat to the point where outside of a few large scale story missions I don't even remember combat being a part of shadow of the tomb raider. Shadow was so puzzle focused it actually was a bit much for me and I love the TR puzzles.

I still feel like Rise was the best of the series and I was a huge fan of the originals. To me it struck the perfect balance of exploration, platforming, puzzles, and combat. Not saying your opinion is wrong I'm just curious what you think they should have done different. Games do need to evolve somewhat to stay relevant. Would you prefer small linear jumping platform levels like the original?

RavenWolfx61d ago

I would agree Rise for 1 and the reboot as 2. Shadow is a bit high, though.

Sonic188161d ago (Edited 61d ago )

I think Shadow wasn't even develop by crystal dynamics. I thought it was the worse in the new trilogy

Pyrofire9561d ago

That's right. Shadow was developed by Eidos Montreal who who went and made Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy next. (Great game)
Meanwhile after Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics made Marvels Avengers. (bad game)

MeatyUrologist61d ago

Agrees. First two are correct but Shadow should be around 5-6.

terstomp61d ago

For me, Legend should be alot higher (along with the other two ). Shadow, I enjoyed it, but has too much has fluff, as modern games tend to do. Playing the remastered series, and apart from the controls, is very good.

jznrpg61d ago

I really enjoyed the first 2 games, Legend and the first of the reboots and the rest I didn’t get into so I never finished.

robtion61d ago

Completely subjective list. I really liked Underworld, I preferred Lara's design. That said I loved the horror/uncharted feel of the reboot. I think all the TR games have strengths and weaknesses. None are objectively better in every way.
