It seems history may repeat itself, as the Xbox 360 is also set to get a spectacular sendoff in 2013 in advance of the so-called Xbox 720/Durango next fall. Yes, of course, plenty of games will find their way to the 360 in 2014 – good ones, too! – but 2013 marks the final year that the current Xbox will be the flagship of the brand, with the entire world’s eyes (and dollars) fixed upon it.

Xbox has been dragging it's "final" year for the duration of the last 3 years. Ps3 has had more great exclusives in any given year (since 2010), than xbox has had in that entire duration up until now, COMBINED.

MS only cares about the casuals now, so all the "exclusives" are now Kinect games. MS really crapped on their fanbase.

Actually, MS was very consistent from the start of the gen to late 2010 which ended with fable 3 and Reach.

2011 was the ONLY year when they went totally casual, Any year before Kinect it was all about the hardcore.

This year was a mixture of casual Kinect Steel Batallion, Wreckateer, and Star Wars Kinect. Which all three scored low Btw. Which is good if your a hardcore gamer right?

To achieve that the PS3 has to be on the market till 2019 (!!!) without slowing down in sales at all.

So a PS4 and rumors of the PS5 by then would not hurt sales of the PS3 at all. Neither would the Xbox 720, Xbox 4 the Wii U, the next Nintendo system or anything like that. I highly doubt that.

By next Christmas, PS3 will probably have reached 100 million sales. Then it will average 8-10 million per year until 2017-18.

Don't forget, the cheapest PS3 you can get in the US is still $269.

When It goes below $199 sales will explode.

between the genesis and the 360 i put the genesis first.

In effect, both are similar to one another. they both were the 2nd release to their respected companies and both had to face a tough uphill battle against a more popular competitor that was already on the market.

Meaning genesis came out against the NES until the SNES was released. 360 came out against the PS2 until the PS3 (and wii) were released.

Both managed to garner significant market share and foothold in popular culture.

i have been a long time sega fan so my choice is the genesis for old school gaming and the 360 for current gen gaming.

I do throw a nod out to all contributors in this industry as each one has added more to the entertainment of this hobby than they have hindered it. Even those that didnt go on to have a successful 2nd release like 3do, neogeo, turbografx. They all are worthy platforms to play.

I haven't bought the original Xbox, not the 360. I would like for the next console to finally convince me to go Xbox but I don't think so. PlayStation and Nintendo had always got me covered when it comes to gaming. Theirs only a few retail games that interest me that's exclusive on the system (Xbox arcade probably has a lot that I might be missing out on though.)But I'm a little curious on what the Next Xbox will bring. Gunstringer was a fun game though.

Microsoft said they will support the Xbox 360 into 2015 and I tend to believe them. I highly doubt we'll see many exclusives after 2013, but it'd be foolish to think we wont see third party games like Call Of Duty, Battlefield and Madden for at least a couple of years after the next Xbox releases. There are over 70+ million 360's out there, and Microsoft has done a good job at marketing the Xbox 360 as MORE than a game machine, so I'd say it definitely has a couple of years left in the tank.

To those that would compare to the original Xbox, that thing was costly to produce and Microsoft took a loss on every console sold, they make money on every 360 sold. Also, the company that made the chip set in the original Xbox stopped producing them, which sort of forced Microsoft's hand in launching the 360 earlier than they wanted.

Personally I am surprised that they got a game like Halo 4 and Forza Horizon to look and play so great this late in the generation, and while I'm more than content to continue and play the 360, I'm really looking forward to the future.

Have you checked the amount of exclusives that are slated for next year from sony. PS3 has many including Beyond two souls, The last of us, GOW ascensions and more. Sony are still supporting the PS3 strongly next year.

It's certainly had less AAA exclusives than PS3 for sure over the last couple of years. But hopefully it's a point MS is taking more seriously because they now have 19 first party studios. I would like to think a good few of them are working on new IP for next gen.

History has shown that even after the next console has released, there have been plenty of exclusives for their past consoles. Whether it's third party support or first party support.

God of War 2 released after the launch of the PS3. They should have ported it over to HD and made it a PS3 launch title instead. The PS3 would have done much better this gen. Anyways. The most recent PS2 game announced for 2013 was Final Fantasy 11's most recent expansion. It's only going to be released in Japan for the PS2 though.

If you look at the Vita releases in Japan, there's not too many. However, Japan still loves their PSPs. There are more third party games releasing on the PSP next year in Japan than there are Vita games in all regions. This actually hurts the Vita though.

It's not really Japan still loves this console or that. If the developer still prints games, as Sony still allows printing games for past systems. third party developers in Japan will support those systems long after they're dead.

So. Even if the PS4 releases this year. I'd take that bet.

I am truly microsoft fan, but I don't think we should pay to play multiplayer. We pay enough for overpriced games already.
So if microsoft doesn't want to invest on exclusives, you can get ps3 (online free, exclusives and multiplatform (that are already on pc and xbox 360).

Many of us don't have the privilege to own all consoles. I just narrowed it down the negativities of xbox 360, hopefully will be gone once new xbox is revealed.

I said in a statement before that the 360 will lose its sales lead to PS3 next year. I thought about it and I take that statement back. The 360 will continue to lead in the U.S come next year I think.

The rumblings of a new consoles resonate with the hardcore than the masses/casuals. People still wanted a Ps2 even after PSS360 got released. I can see a similar trend with the 360, that is if MS allows it.

MS is all about moving forward and converting people (Eample: windows 7 & 8) I believe MS will support the 360 a little while longer but definitely not too much longer.

Seeing how MS wants people to focus on the much newer tech rather than the older.

I must say not sure how I feel about the whole paying for online vs. Not paying for online. What I do know for me I find convience in the xbox 360. Let me explain I have 2 xbox. Whether I'm at home, at a relative/friend home, or out of town. It's good to know I can log in on their xbox. That's is cool to me. My profile go were I go and I like that about the xbox. My ps3 is in my bedroom, One of my xbox is hooked up to my HT System, and the other is hook up in another room. That will be 1 of many factors I will look for with the next system. Which system will provide that convience for me.

Besides. You don't have to own "just a Playstation" to bash the 360 or Nintendo. I own the Nintendo portables, Wii games for when I am at someones home who owns a Wii or when I get a Wii U, a very capable gaming PC, and I used to own a 360. I'm anti Nintendo and bash them all the time. The 360 is alright, but the past few years they've had a major lack of exclusives and I've always hated XBL Gold requiring you to pay to play games online.

I'm not gonna lie. I'm a PlayStation guy and I do agree the the 360 did a fantastic job of competing against Sony this gen. Can't wait to see both the PS4 and the next Xbox next year.
