I think it will, depending on the cost of Next Gen consoles and how well the WiiU sells before the announcement of the Next Gen consoles. While a price drop is expected, I don't think Nintendo will do the same thing, as they did with the 3DS.

Bowzabub4172d ago

I'll buy it when it's at $150. Maybe bundled with 2 or 3 games. Hopefully by then there will be a good Zelda game on it. ;)

Y_51504172d ago

You might be waiting for at least a couple of years for that to be considered. Also that price is ridiculously low. You know the only system of this current generation that's lower than that price is the Wii? If you find a deal like that, I would be utterly surprised...

Bowzabub4172d ago

Trust me, I'm in no hurry.

Anon19744171d ago

I've got a least a year, maybe two worth of games in my backlog of games I want to play. I'm not in a hurry for new consoles at all as I doubt they'll offer anything this current gen doesn't already offer until they've been on the market for a year or so. Besides, I learned my lesson buying all 3 consoles this gen at launch. Never again.

WooHooAlex4171d ago

I'm definitely in the same boat as you. I'll wait until 2014 or 2015 to buy one. By then I'll have a nice backlog of games to play.

Zhipp4171d ago

If you wait for a black friday deal 3-4 years from now you might actually get that.

animegamingnerd4172d ago

so this means it won't receive a price cut until at least 2014

Neonridr4172d ago

If Pachter says it, then just go by the exact opposite.

dirthurts4171d ago

I'm pretty sure we all know that the console's price will be cut. I mean, it's having a hard time selling as it is, and it's still fresh on the market. When the big boys drop their hardware, no one is going to be thinking about the Wii U.
I would take Pachters word of Neonridr any day.

Neonridr4171d ago

lol, guys you are missing the whole joke. Everything Pachter says is always the complete opposite of reason.

Of course the system won't get a price increase, and will most likely get a price cut perhaps during the holiday season next year since there are rumours of a new system coming out.

You can take Pachters word all day, but this is the same guy who predicted that nobody would get the Wii U, then it would be successful, then it would fail, then the price was perfect, then the system would sell out until March, then Nintendo is completely irrelevant, then the Wii U will see a price cut next year.

I mean this guy flip-flops more than a fish out of water. He says everything and anything so that way no matter what the outcome - success, failure, mediocre, he can say "Well I predicted that".

The guy is a moron, and if you want to defend him and believe what he has to say, then be my guest.

ElectricKaibutsu4171d ago

@Neonridr, you can't blame a guy for changing his opinions based on new information. I respect that he admits he's wrong... which is pretty much constantly.

@Dirthurts, the Wii U is having a hard time selling? I believe it's selling like hotcakes. Are you basing this on Nintendo being able to keep up with the demand?

dirthurts4171d ago

Now let me start out by saying, I own a Wii U.
I'm not saying that they're able to keep up with demand.
What I'm saying, is normally people can't get enough of anything Nintendo is pushing out.
Not necessarily that it's bad hardware.
I really think it needed a new name, without the "Wii" in there, as most people don't even realize it's a new thing. That and it looks too similar.
But overall, I think everyone was expecting it to be completely sold out, especially this close to the holidays with a brand new system out there.

ElectricKaibutsu4168d ago

@dirthurts, definitely true. Every nongamer I've talked to still thinks it's a new controller for the Wii...

It's a possibly. The PS2 also got a 15% price drop in Japan and Europe within its first year of release to fight off the incoming GC and Xbox.

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
