GamesRadar - "I think that model is finished," Electronic Arts Games chief Frank Gibeau told Develop two-years back. He was discussing what he called "fire-and-forget, packaged goods only" or, as they're commonly known as, single-player games. He said that developers needed to continue the connection with players, and that a good method was through some sort of multiplayer component. In one interview, one of the leaders of the second biggest game publisher had signed a death warrant for single-player gaming. People were understandably upset, thinking that the era of single-player was over.
"The Jyväskylä-based (Finland) indie games developer Act Normal Games today announced with great delight and thrill that their isometric post-apocalyptic point-and-click adventure “Rauniot“, is now available PC (via Steam, GOG, and GMG." - Jonas Ek, TGG.
The game, which has launched in early access, has been in development for years with more than 3,000,000 wishlists on Steam.
"The Spain-based indie games publisher Firenut Games and Granada-based (Spain) indie games developer Trigger the Monster, today announced with great joy and thrill that their dark fantasy adventure/management game “Search of Light” (AKA SOL), is now available for PC (via Steam) and consoles (PS5, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch)." - Jonas Ek, TGG.
So a few people over reacting justifies an article now?
The simple fact is that many games have needless multiplayer and IN THEORY that effort could have been applied elsewhere. Was Dead Space 2's multiplayer worthless? I think so, others don't, but I doubt many would request that over another hour of campaign or perhaps an online hoard mode if they want to do MP so badly. There will always be exceptions, but plenty of smaller games have completely worthless and ill thought out MP modes that makes this mentality justified.
Frank Gibeau your company sucks at making games. EA blows.
"What great single-player purchase was compromised by multiplayer? Was Dead Space 2 ruined by the Necromorphs vs. Humans battles that most agreed were an absolute blast?"
Dead Space 2 wasn't necessarily compromised by MP (although it was compromised in other ways like constant shooting and linear level design), but the MP certainly felt tacked on and mpost people, didn't care for it.
If it was that great it wouldn't have been cut from 3.
"Necromorphs vs. Humans battles that most agreed were an absolute blast"
Really ? Who said that ? Almost no one cared . And by that i dont mean it had a small yet dedicated fanbase like many shooters or games , and unfairly compared to say cod , no almost no one cared to play it .
It dried up even quicker than Bioshock 2 mp .
simple fact with me if a game has multiplayer its a game i most likly wont buy, i dont do mp ever if ican avoid it as for assassins creed mp beign fun wolfpack coop was fun everything else was not
